I know there are a few other inked/tattoo individuals out there. I love getting ideas and love original work. Share here your likes and ideas.

I love my tattoos. I have 5 actually (see below) and still have a few more to get (I want to get one to celebrate my trans self, my buddhist self, my geek self and a few more). *ALL* of mine are self designed and inked by Jacqueline at Yonge Street Tattoos (awesome work). I think I'll be waiting until I'm settled in L.A. for a year or so before I get my next set.

I'll have to dig around my computer, to see if I can find one of my single (at this time) tattoo. It's pretty simple, but I want to add some enhancements to it. It's on the upper part of my right buttock.

I plan to get one for my left side, of a white tiger, and I have the picture of what I want, in a box on my coffee table. I've been saving the pic for years, because I needed to not only save up the money to get the work done, but so that I would have someone who could drive me home from the ink-work (I get a real high as in a SM "flight" from the sensation). I will also Timber to help me in the care needed in the first couple of weeks, as it heals, since it's in an awkward place.

We must be linked or something, Linus, because I was just thinking about starting a tattoo thread this morning!

I have a few. If you are just looking at them, it looks like 3 separate tats, but I've actually been under the needle several times.

One of my tats is a rose and butterfly that I added another butterfly and rose to after a break up. I did the sure thing to end the relationship; I got a matching tat (and, of course, had to change it somewhat after we split). :help:

My first tat is still pure. It's never been touched up or added onto and it still looks really good, considering it's gotten a decent amount of sun exposure. It's a band of butterflies on my lower back. I have no problem smacking the crap out of the jerks who call it a tramp stamp or trash tat. I got it many, many years ago before everyone else got one there too. Damn lemmings!

The other one was my most painful and, even though it needs to be touched up, I don't want to do it. It's the only one I almost cried while getting. I had to be held down and still my leg was jumping all over the place. It's directly on my ankle bone. Bone. Needle going 5 miles an hour. Not a good combination.

Anyway, it's a lizard climbing rose leaves and having a conversation with a butterfly (notice a theme here, people?) and a ladybug although now it kinda looks like he wants to eat them. *grimace* If someone has a supply of ether or enough sedatives, I might do it, but unless I can't feel ANYTHING, that one is not going to get any work any time soon. It's already been added to and touched up 3 times. I think that's all I can endure for now. After all, I'm not machocistic. I've typed that three times now and it STILL looks wrong. I can't spell for shit today.

While my first tat was flash, I had a clear vision of what I wanted and it just so happened that I found flash that was super close to what I wanted. Now, I would like to eventually have it touched up and gone over so it's not so cartoonish. I want it to be a fantasy-reality blend. Fantasy colors with realistic designs.

For those interested in what goes on before the ink goes in, I feel close to the butterfly. It represents metamorphosis and change and Heaven knows I've done a LOT of that in my life. Also, I was just first coming out to myself when I got my first tat. Life altering things lead to life altering decisions. I will always have at least one butterfly in any tat that I get. The ladybug and lizard are also representative of things I feel connected to. The lizard is supposed to help one go from one plane of existence to another and the ladybug is gentle. I always feel I could use more gentleness in my life, yanno?

So that's it for now. I have a bit of extra fluff in ye old account at this very moment and, for a brief moment, I heard the beckoning buzz of the needle, but it will have to wait. Car repairs, a laptop and a short trip are more important to me now.

I have a "cross' just above my clevage line on my chest. Its about 2.5 inchs. I got it as a tribute tat. My Daddy lived in ptown for years and a friend had home inked the cross on her in the same place. When i had mine done i added some flourishs to it. She has since passed so the tat is very dear to me. Often i put stick gems on the four corners, or just a big one in the center. Many times people admire it....an old lady once came up to me and TOUCHED IT !! Then she smiled and blessed herslf, let me tell ya that was strange!! Its funny cause when i wear a gem on it i always get asked how "they" got the gem on there!!RAIN.......:rainsing:

hey Linus and everyone, loved your photos. I just got my fourth tattoo, somewhat spontaneously, this one is a simple three inch diameter turquoise butch star (nautical star) on my right arm forearm, it makes me ridiculously happy.

I have one I got after being kicked out of the Navy.. It's Sparty!! (Michigan State mascot) It's just above my ankle and about 3" by 4"
Problem is.. I don't watch sports. Ever. Never went to college, could never get into MI State.. I got it because 5 of my siblings are U of M fans. And I like green. Dyed my hair green once... Am slightly drunk.
Anywho... I'm thinking this summer I want barbed wire around my calf about 3 in. below my knee.

I've got a bunch of tattoos, a couple of which would be decidedly different if I had known what I know now when I first started getting tattoos about 10 years ago.

Since then I've done copious research on styles and what makes a good artist. Now I've got my next 5+ tattoos already planned out, including finishing my right arm half sleeve. I won't go below my elbows (except for one on my left wrist, which can be covered by a watch) for professional reasons, while there is a lot more acceptance for tattoos and the tattooed, there is definitely still prejudice.

This is my most recent - I prefer traditional style tattoos - from October '08 (I can't believe I've gone over a year without getting a tattoo) by Daniel Trocchio at Saved Tattoo (http://www.savedtattoo.com/) in Brooklyn, NY. (Amazing shop).

I absolutely love ink and would probably be covered if I had the $$. Luckily, a dear friend is one of the best tattoo artists I've ever met so she does some work for me at discount prices! ..lol She is an incredible artist named Kate Clark who is currently working at Monster Ink in Easley SC. Some of my other work has been done at Man's Ruin studio in Asheville NC by Heather Ruin, who has been featured on the covers of many tattoo magazines across the country. And still yet, a few have been done by Rock Ink in my hometown. I also have a couple of small ones that were done years ago by an artist that I wasn't very familiar with, who moved out of state and I don't really remember the name. I usually try to give credit to the artist. ..lol I have others that I don't have photos on this pc for, but here are some:

(The one of Anubis has just been started. It will be a complete leg piece of Egyptian art when finished...)

Mine is a blue rose with a heart...and not well done I might add. I've wanted it gone for many years... but other than lasers, how can I get it completely gone? I was tempted to try a cover-up, but the ink is so dark and the lines so thick that I'm afraid it won't work. Plus, the first time was WAY too painful (I sat at the table hugging a pillow and shaking like mad!) ... I was "made" to get it by my Ex after my son passed away...(I guess you can call it my Ex's "mark"?)... it doesn't hold good memories... I wouldn't mind having another one, but don't want the old one to show through...

I would LOVE to have this one....http://www.gods-heros-myth.com/graphics/fairy3.jpg but need to find a really good artist who's skilled at cover-ups and making it look like it's air-brushed...

Even with laser removal, it's not "completely" gone. But it could lighten the image enough to cover it up with something else, depending on the colors used (green and black are harder to lighten) and a bunch of other things that I can't think of right now. I looked into it briefly, then decided the cost and pain (worse than the tattoo itself) were not worth it.

I love fairies and that would be a beautiful tat if done well!

I am sleeved. I am a cancer survivor.. which really just changed everything in my life. I am painfully shy in person..and sort of reclusive. I knew after cancer I would not be interested in a corporate job any longer, so I wanted to sleeve. I got screwed bad on the first part of the sleeve by a butch tattooist in Erie, PA which I went to because she was a site member of the dash site. I got two bunches of plumeria flowers with some maori swirl work around it, it looked like someone drew on me with a crayon bad bad bad... I tried to rectify the bad work but just got blown off. I sought a local artist in Pittsburgh where I live and found a great cover up guy. He fixed what I had and made a great tropical sleeve with tribal maori work, flowers and a butterfly. It is dark, and awesome !! I even found a way to get my husband's initials in there. It all turned out soo well !! I have the Elvis stamp on my other arm which I plan to get covered soon with another sleeve which will consist of various religious symbols mixed with a gypsy like= mother mary image lots of roses and crows. It is going to be soooo cool !! Being sleeved threw me into a whole 'nother employable status...hahah so I started my own business and never looked back.
I would cover my whole body if I could.. as I get older I don't heal as well. Latina and keloid-y to start with so I have to be careful and do it in steps. Oh well, that's my handicap !!

How much do you all pay ?? I am curious about that... I have about 26 hours into my arm... at well over 100$ an hour ... whew.. whoever used to think tattoos make a woman look cheap is o wrong. I think they look like cha-ching !!

My first tattoo, I was with a friend and her gf in Pensacola. My friend wanted a navel piercing, but at the last second was chickening out. I told her I would hold her hand and get a much-discussed tat afterward if she went through with it. She really wanted it. (and her useless, abusive gf was hungover and no help at all, hence ME holding her hand). My thinking? She'll be so happy with her piercing she'll forget about a tat for me. Yeah, no. When she was done, I was told to get get a tat. So I started looking through for something that could fit in my price range of oh, about $50. LOL I ended up getting Japanese script for "love" and "woman," so my tattoo basically said "To love women," and this was as I was coming out, so it seemed appropriate. It's on the outside of my right ankle. Funniest part about it was that two years later, my then-girlfriend and I were in Orlando and an Asian gentlemen spotted my tat and started saying (across a parking lot). "To love women, hah hah hah, to love women, hah hah hah." *shrug* At least I always knew it said what it was supposed to.

This tattoo is on my upper left shoulder. (OK, it doesn't like my flickr pic, so I'll try to post in the gallery)

I was in California visiting a friend, fresh off a bad breakup and talking about getting a Phoenix tattoo. This has long been my philosophy: Like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, nothing can keep me down. Well, my friend's gf is an artist and used to do tats so she volunteered to do my tat. Only issue was some of her ink was bad and old, so she tattooed over it three times to try and make it darker. It still has a faded look. I thought once about getting it darkened, but I like the effect, plus it had a lot of meaning for me, so no, I kept it.

I came thisclose to getting a tat last month while I was in Cali again (hmmm, trend...LOL) but time was an issue. So now, I have to find time to get it done. I want a tribal armband.

This is the vein of what I want:

New York City, about $150/hr for the better shops, + tip. Daredevil tattoo on the LES has $50 Flash Fridays (or they used to). You could get something off their flash wall for $50 + tip. I never did it, but kind of wish I'd gotten a little Sailor Jerry flash piece.

I have a Star of David on my lower back that I have had for a long time... I think about 10 years. It also has my initials and birth date. It is faded and needs some work...but I still love it. At some point, I will have some touch up work done.

In 2008, during the infamous Florida trip, the lovely and amazing...and our very own, QueenofQueens, did the lion piece on my left shoulder ::stillheart::
(The pic isn't that great... sorry. It is much more vibrant in person :))

And last summer, my friend and local artist/tattooist, Leslie, did this Hamsa on my right shoulder.

I have one more which I have had since I was 19 (I'm 36 now)...it is old and faded and stretched. Basically, not worthy of a pic. It is a flower from a painting I did and located near my hip/pelvic area. At some point I will get that one covered/fixed-up too.

I've also got a few more ideas in the works...

Ol' Jet: thanks for posting that. The Cherry Blossoms one was really interesting. I showed it to K and she's been wanting one. I suggested she get something like that (her favourite flower is Hibiscus and she loves swallows) with the birds swooping in the branches. (it's a promised tattoo I'd get her as a "marque" -- a reference to her favourite book, Kushiel's Dart (http://www.jacquelinecarey.com/books.htm)).

I have 3 tatts:

right bicep - a small kokopelli. It is only 1,5 to 2 inches tall - now I wish I had gotten it made bigger.
right wrist - memorial tatt for my mom - a braid of sweetgrass, with a dreamcatcher on the inside of the wrist
left wrist - memorial tatt for my dad - tattered U.S. flag, with my father's WW II unit on the inside of the wrist.

The first tatt was done at a place in the village in Toronto that has since gone out of business. Design from a pin I bought when I was in AZ.
The two wrist tatts were designed and inked by Jacqueline at Yonge Street Tattoos (Linus introduced me to her) - she is awesome.

I would like to get more tatts but have trouble deciding on what/where I want. :deepthoughts: At one time I was thinking of sleeves but have decided against that as I want everything to sort of go together.

They should be able to give you options of different ways to cover your old tat up. If the print out isn't big enough, it can be enlarged, no problem. I have had the joy of working with a couple of really good artists and know that the good ones can work magic!

I really wish I'd figured out what I wanted (now) back in the day. The first artist that inked me was the best, imo. Though it's never been touched up and is my oldest at almost 10 years old, it's still beautiful and the colors are still good despite sun exposure (can't help it in FL). Unfortunately, the shop he worked at closed some time ago. :(

I have two extra bedrooms going cheep!!
My neighbors just moved in...I've been thinking all day about asking them what they think and researching their work. My old one is 16 yrs old and is a HORRIBLE ugly piece that reminds me of an even more HORRIBLE event in my life... if I can't have it surgically removed (completely - not lasers), then I'll settle for a cover-up... but it's got to be a really sexy one ;) ;) that replaces bad memories with good feelings. I love the butterfly or faerie that I posted earlier. Reminds me of a free spirit.

It's been 16 years....give your neighbors a chance to settle in, then pounce on them and give them cookies and other baked goodies and tell them what you'd like to do as they bask in a fuzzy sugar glow (but wait for it to clear before they get to work on ya!)....a teensy bit more time is manageable, yes?

I'm sure the end result will be lovely!

I just started getting tats a lil over a year ago. People are surprised I get them, prolly cause they think I am a wuss. But I love the experience and none of it hurts much.

I got my first one, my daughters name and birthdate on my back right shoulder. Then last Oct I got my family friends name who passed away *he was like a grandpa mostly* on my back neck. There is a prayer hand symbol next to his name. Then my most recent done, this past friday..it is a treble clef inside a star with lil stars going around it. That one was on my foot. :)

I want to expand my foot one and put some color stars around my ankle. Like up and around and do rainbow ones and then fit in something fun with the orginal *sp?* tattoo itself. I also want to get like a collage of things my aunt did/loved who passed away. I love my name tattoos but I think for her it will have more meaning if I go with a symbolic one for her.

My tattoo artist is a family friend of mine. His daughter is almost covered and we did color guard/flag corp growing up. His name is Mark and the shop is Marked for Life. I really have no clue why I waited so long to get one done *I am 26 now*...there is just something about a tattoo shop though that makes me happpy lol.

I have a few tattoos. They mean a great deal to me, I really don't care what people think or the looks I get. Most of the time, it's very positive. I love to see the looks on peoples faces when they first see my tattoos, I just smile and look at them back. Sometimes I get questions inquiring: "does it hurt?" "What does it mean?" "Who does your work?" I just tell people my tattoos are the places, people, family and cultures that mean a great deal to me.

I'm still in the process of completing my work. It's a life long process of learning about myself, the world around me, and the beautiful things I have experienced.

To those who are not tattooed, but are considering it, I always suggest they plan ahead; likely once you get your first tattoo, it will not be your last, and it's best to avoid small, randomly placed tattoos. Small tattoos feel so non-committal and often eventually bleed into a blurry mess. Tattoos just slapped here and there all over the body look random and often sloppy.

Also, the word is "tattoo." Tat, tatt, ink makes me cranky.

Thank you and good day.

I am a total tattoo lover. First tattoo I was 16, it started out being a "small" memorial tattoo after my grandmother passed. It ended up covering my entire back. It is an angel with her wings open reaching down to take my grandmothers hands and in the background is my granmothers home and the two of us riding her in cherished 66 mustang......It is very detailed I will try to get a picture of it up here, anyway I have 11 tattoos in all, and do plan more. I also design all of my tattoos and they are done by a great friend. He is 72 years old and also did my grandmothers tattoos.

Got two new one's today... tiny ones, since my last one took hours and "nearly turned my arm to hamburger" when they did the cover-up...
But tiny is just as beautiful as intricate designs... especially if the memories and meanings are special.

My "Rain Frog" for my youngest son, Dustin... (left thigh)
http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz72/kjs11/2012-06-30_22-20-04_609.jpg?t=1341120142

And my DragonFirefly...the dragonfly holding such beauty and a unique creature to me...the Firefly with special meaning for my spirit and Hopper Fire spice...and the special meaning of the colors: Life, Healing, Sun, Nature, Harmony and Spirit...
http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz72/kjs11/2012-06-30_22-15-48_656.jpg?t=1341120074
I love dragonflies. And a small Pride bracelet with a silver dragonfly was the last thing my oldest son lovingly gave to me, which he made himself the weekend we went to our first Pride together in Harrisburg.

I'm delighted with them!! I've waiting a LONG time to find the right one just for Dustin...

I love our Tattoo artist team... they treat me with such respect. And they crack me up...tonight, when my thigh was MUCH more sensitive than I had anticipated, I told him to "just call me wimp"... he calmly said "no, Little Frog"... it wasn't until I got home, that I thought of the joke "Jump Froggy, JUMP!"... that was me tonight when he dug the needle in!

I have 2 tattoos, and have plans for a couple more (not sure where they will be placed yet)

First tattoo came at age 49, right after I came out. It is on my left shoulder, and is heart shaped, with half of the heart a pride flag, and the other half leather pride flag colors.

Second tattoo came this past January, at the age of 59. It is on my right shoulder, and is an inverted pink triangle, deeply edged in black, with a thick black marking in the middle of the Oriental symbol for "women".

And, no, I will NOT be waiting till I hit the age of 69 for my next tattoo! LOL

I have one tattoo, on my belly. I was never completely satisfied with the way it turned out, but pregnancy really did some damage to it. I'd like to have it covered with a different one but it would have to be rather large and I don't know what would work well over it. I am also not a fan of the painful process. Maybe eventually.

Find a good tattoo artist and get their ideas of what would look good in that area to cover up the other one. At least it would give you some ideas to ponder???

I have 5 tattoos...all of very significant meanings. There are two I want to have someting else done to...one is on my left bicep..a huge leopard...ripping out of my muscle, with my heart in her mouth...and below her a banner....with "someone's nickname" and our initials on each end of the banner...(I KNOW...never put names..unless it is of a parent, sibling, or friend...lol)....sooo THAT needs to be modified....smiles... the other tat is on my right bicep....is a pink ribbon with my deceased wife's name in it...her name will always be on my arm....what I want to do is have something unique done to it...I got it before she passed away...so I didn't have any kind of "in honor of" or "in memory of" added...I think along lines of maybe unique angel's wings, maybe the sunrise/sunset dates....it will come to me..I am certain...:). Really awesome tats peeps...I have 3 others...one right calf..teal dolphin with a rainbow splash, left calf is a huge eagle's head with the flag as its colors (head is blue with stars) and pin feathers are alternating white and red....this was MY design and tribute to 9/11....and back top right shoulder an ornate celtic cross with Memory of and my bro's name....so I am "inked" several places....smiles...:mohawk:

Gosh, it's been nearly five years ago that I found this Japanese symbol for a tattoo idea..... I like it, too, still. I think if I ever did find a way to have this done, I think I'd want someone who's creative talent could make it look as good on me as it does in the photo. I only have one tattoo... I had it done back in 1999 (?).... then had it altered in 2005 (?). I'm thinking I want my tattoo altered again, as well. I know some tattoo artists up in the Seattle area, who once lived here. So if I ever do get the new tattoo, I'll have my tattoo artist friends up in Seattle complete the work for me.

Hm, I don't think I've posted in this thread?

My first was the women's power sign on the right side of my lower back.
Then I got a replica of a rather ancient stencil drawing of Eve on my left shoulder.
Then a willow tree/goddess on my stomach.
Then a tribal down my back, it runs between my shoulders and down my back then curves over my right hip and a little down my leg.
Then came a triple goddess between my shoulder blades with a Celtic knot woven through it.
Right now I'm working on a large piece, a Japanese Phoenix done in soft water colors. It's large and covers scars I have from surgeries I had from when I had cancer. It should be finished at the end of this month.
