Yes, here we have it. Back by popular demand. The thread you love, or hate, or love to hate.
Post here all of your cute sock/hosiery news. Wear a cute pair of socks? Tights? Fishnets? Thigh highs? Well, I wanna know. Just cause I'm kinky like that.
I'll go first:
Today I wore light blue David & Goliath socks that have pictures of cartoon boys on them that say "Boys are smelly".

I bought a 6 pack of Hanes classic white ankle socks today. All of my calf length socks are black. Of course when I go to fold them, they still never match.
I do have some special winter socks that I got for Christmas that I could wax poetic about, but I will save that for later.

You have to wash all the black socks at the same time. Then, they will fade at the same rate. If you unable to complete this feet (hah), line up all of the socks you did wash, prior to pairing them. Just do the best you can. Only some of the people will laugh at for your mismatched fading.
I have struggled over the years with how high I want my white socks (while wearing shorts), to come above my foot (meaning, how long I want the socks to be). For some reason I have never been able to determine what looks best on me. Popping right out of the sneaker, or a little bit higher? It has always been a struggle. :sigh:

Dapper, thank you. The problem is my socks are all black but they are not the exact same socks, so that is why they don't match. I buy them so seldom that each time they are different. I need to make a note of it so that I buy the same exact ones every time. Then they will match better. Or maybe I could throw out the old ones and start over. There's a thought.
I also don't wear socks very often so my laundry doesn't contain that many socks to wash at the same time. I work from home and I mostly go barefoot. That situation may change, who knows.
I bought the ankle socks yesterday for wearing with tennis shoes and shorts. But I also got new flip flops, which I will most likely be wearing most of the time when I do need foot covering. I haven't struggled with the ankle sock length issue.

Because my legs are wrapped toe to knee 24/7/365 in a combination of lymphedema wraps and farrow wraps with padding, I have to wear a special sock made with silver in it. Spensive sockys. I have two pair and have to swap them out every couple of days. Soooo...dapperbutch has a veritable clowns collection of socks compared to me. Mine are a silvery-grey. It's the only colour they come in.

I would think that having different brands would actually help with the matching process, no? Perhaps I should go that route. For my thicker "winter" black socks (not to be confused with my black, "dress socks"), I always buy Gold Toe. I buy them in 6 packs. I have actually considered starting over due to the time it takes to "fade match". I keep the suckers until they are gray with fade and even may have holes in the heels. I have the same problem letting go of underwear. The stitching can start to come off of the band, but I will hold onto them for a time.
Speaking of underwear, that was a 10 year search for the right brand/style (ending about 6 years ago). It was hard to find a pair that were comfortable (just "say no" to briefs), yet didn't bunch up in my pants (thereby effecting the "straight line" of my hips/thighs). I finally decided on a "trunk" style by Calvin Klein. We should have an underwear thread, as they are more important than socks.
I also don't wear socks very often so my laundry doesn't contain that many socks to wash at the same time. I work from home and I mostly go barefoot. That situation may change, who knows.

It may not, as you IT people tend to be blessed with jobs where you can go casual. I am a sandal guy myself, which is probably why I have done less research in the white sock decision making around length. I typically only wear sneakers when exercising. I am a sandal/shoe guy. At home, it is barefeet in summer and crew length socks with pants in winter. The sock length issue creeps up when I am wearing shorts.
This is an important discussion, I am glad we are having it.
P.S. Do you think the "sock people" hate us yet?

My whole life I only had the standard issue black/white never-quite-enough sock situation. Then I moved to where I am. There is a department store nearby that mails out $10 gift cards to the locals every other month or so.
They don't have anything else I want in that price range so socks are it. My sock-o-the-month club if you will.

Dapper, I do often buy gold toe socks. That would be easy for me to remember, so that might help. I will be going through all my clothes in the next week or so. This discussion is very timely for my purge. I think it is time to get rid of the obvious mismatches but too early to completely replace my current black sock supply. (P.S. I mostly wear boxer briefs, just ordered a Fruit of the Loom 7 pack along with the socks and some other items. I went a little "crazy" on Amazon yesterday but still kept it under a hundred bucks).

Ok, so I lied. I fogot about the number of cycling and hiking socks I have. They are all colors (the cycling socks), which honestly, I am not too keen on. I prefer solid, conservative colors (which I can find for the hiking) that match the cycling/hiking shoes or are neutral. Nothing crazy. I'm boring like that.

No, I don't think so, they are medical sox. I used to wear these very lovely wool sox with wicking that kept my feet warm and dry. because I wore boots all of the time. After I get all of my medicine on my legs, then my medical sox, and then the padding, and finally the wraps, I can't even wear regular shoes, and thank god for Crocs because that's all I can get my lumpy little feet into. At least crocs come in a lot of colours and in a very sad way, it makes up for having all of the other stuff stifling my feet.

Okay, update on my crazy shopping spree from the other day, which did include socks.
My tennis shoes and flip flops left Hebron, KY and are currently in Atlanta, GA.
My nail clipper set (a bit of a splurge here) is in Union City, CA (wow seriously, they couldn't find any nail clippers closer than California)
Have my Hanes classic white ankle socks (and a few other items) shipped yet? Noooooooooo It's a good thing I have one pair already, just in case. (Says shipping now, but no what that really means is we haven't gotten around to finding your stuff yet. Someone is no doubt on a long cigarette break. Until it actually says Shipped it means nothing!)
Another barefoot day for me, although I am getting pretty low on food. If I do go out it will probably be tennis shoes with no socks.
(I love to track packages. Sometimes I want to order something just so I can track it).
(Oh and I also love parenthetical asides. Blame Dapper if you don't like them).

Today I am wearing white ankle socks. I am wearing white socks because I am wearing (you guessed it), sneakers (actually they are short hiking boots, but whatever).
They are also TF's socks. They are her socks because we are down at the beach and I forgot to pack socks. I did have white socks on yesterday, that I could have reworn, but that creeps me out. HOWEVER, TF's had already been worn too.
You may wonder why I chose her socks over mine even though both had already been worn (and therefore it would be a "repeat" situation, for both pairs).
Let me run it down for you.
TF only wore her socks to sleep in, I had been wearing mine since 4pm. I put them on right after my shower. The amateurs in the group may believe this to be enough information as to which "repeat socks", one should chose and would reach right for TF's socks. That would be jumping the gun a bit.
You need to take into consideration what was going on with the feet themselves before they were slipped into said socks. After all, you are putting your foot inside the sock. As stated, I had just taken a shower at 4:00pm. TF, on the other hand, had showered in the morning. SO, she had ALL DAY to accumulate dirt on her feet, prior to putting on said pair of clean socks before bed.
I asked TF what socks/shoes she wore to work yesterday. My thought was, if she was wearing sandals her feet would be relatively dirty when she put the socks on to go to bed. I would then be putting my feet into socks that could arguably be dirtier than the inside of mine, even though her clean socks were put on 8 hours later than mine.
I found out that she wore nylons (or whatever they are called now), with the dress she wore yesterday. Being that her foot was encased in fabric all day and she is not a foot sweater, I determined that her white socks were most likely cleaner than mine inside, so I chose her socks.
It was a tough decision, glad I was able to get through it.
TF was glad, too.
The end.

It is warm under the covers with blankets on, socks are her preference, not a necessity. But, yes, I am a puz for not even thinking about it.
Kelt, true about the socks for today (but TF will have on sandals, it is only cold at night), I didn't think past yesterday. :|
I didn't think past yesterday. :|
My point exactly.
Looks like somebody needs to trot into town real quick and come back with a package of socks.
Time to step up.

Today's socks....

The end.
Sometimes you really scare me Dapper.

:sigh:
A sock tip:
Buy some large safety pins. When you take off a pair of socks pin them together on the toe end. They will stay together in the wash. Then they are already matched when they come out of the dryer.
Voilà!
You're welcome. :cheesy:
I’ve eyed this thread warily for a while now. I love socks but there is a rather embarrassing issue that comes up whenever I talk about sock use. It’s rather uncomfortable and anyone who reads my posts can see how difficult it is for me to open up about just anything (tongue in cheek here). But before I share my secret shame I want to enjoy a little stress free conversation about my love of socks. I need to warm up and work my way into this.
I love colorful socks of every ilk. Like glass sculptor Dale Chihuly, I never met a color I didn’t like. I have socks with cartoon characters, superheros, animals, sports team logos, and designs of all types. I am not hampered by a need or desire to only wear socks of a certain length. I am also not restricted by a necessity for appropriate sock management for work. My socks are hidden under my pants and no one is the wiser. Of course there are times during a meeting when my slacks might ride up a tad and if one were to glance under the table at the right moment one might be privy to an explosion of color. But if my coworkers have ever noticed and been shocked at my shameless use of rainbow hued toe warmers they have kept it to themselves.
Colorful socks make me smile. I feel happy just looking at my socks. My feet would be so sad if they had to live in only black and white. Even when I’m wearing boots and I can’t see my socks that easily, I will push up my jeans a bit when I’m sitting so I can catch a glimpse of their colorful cuteness. Just a look never fails to bring me joy. There are only two times when I don’t wear socks bursting with color and character. One is when it’s really cold and I’m going to be trudging through snow and ice, then I wear the warmest heaviest socks I own and they usually have minimal color, maybe red and gray. The other is the source of my humiliation and embarrassment. I am a secret user of peds.
For years and years in the summer or when it was warm and I wanted to wear sneakers and no socks, I wore peds. I hate bare feet in shoes. I can’t stand it. Neither can I wrap my head around socks and shorts. I don’t care for that look. I try to stick with sandals and bare feet in the summer, but there are times when only a shoe or a sneaker will do. Then out come the peds. I have them in white, black, polka dot and of course there’s the plain nylon looking ones. Nobody sees them, my shame is well hidden beneath my shoes. But that has not stopped the bullying, the ridicule, the scorn I have endured at the hands of lovers and friends. Almost every person in my life has tried to stop me from wearing these tiny targets of tremendous revulsion. It’s unfathomable how much hatred the little guys can garner. There we times when current girlfriends and exes would come together, united by my misguided and offensive use of peds, and plot against this common enemy. Those diminutive disgusting excuses for socks had to go. The people in my life were not kidding. Friends, family, and partners alike were deeply disturbed by my penchant for this foolish footwear. When my wife and my best friend first met years ago, although it was winter with no peds in sight, the conversation ultimately turned toward my ped wearing and the taunting began.
Since moving to another country it has been difficult for those I left behind to hold this abomination in the forefront of their consciousness so I have of lately escaped any humiliating tirades. My wife is not thrilled with my use of the little horrors but she has made a sort of uneasy piece with them. However, every now and again her mortification surrounding this unfortunate and persistent folly comes around to bite me in the toes. I have been more careful since given another chance and I do not allow my new friends to get a whiff of my ped fetish.
I know what I’m doing is wrong and I should know better, but I can’t help myself. It’s the easy answer to my dilemma around what to do concerning the shorts and shoes debacle. And truthfully it is the only answer I can live with despite the ridicule, mockery and derision I’ve suffered at the hands of purposeful persistent peds detractors.
Since I’ve gone in the closet I haven’t talked about this problem in a couple of years. Stealth ped use has it advantages but we all know how secrets keep us sick.

MissTick,
I get it. I very much dislike the look of shorts with sneakers (on adult masculine individuals). I also cannot stand the feeling of no socks in a shoe/especially a sneaker.
The white sock height issue I mentioned struggling with is where this comes in. I have to balance what I think looks good on me (with shorts), plus, with what is trendy (not trendy = crew style pushed down..but on me, I think they look good. *sigh*). It can be rough sometimes. A nice pair of short hiking boots can improve the situation, or like you, I wear sandals (very BUTCH ones, of course! ha!). I think I said in an earlier thread, I tend to only wear sneakers when working out. I do find them more acceptable on me wear with jeans, but rarely.
So, I have to tell you, I learned that with those sketcher sneaker type shoes people don't wear socks with them. I do think they look better that way, but me, having the same problem as you, what do I do?
WELL, I found that they make cotton socks that are not peds, but are hidden right under the shoe line. Regular thickness and everything. I found them at some show outlet store.
Check it out!
P.S. Peds are for sissies.

Are they really hidden under the shoe line? Maybe it's me, but i can always see them sticking up a tad. Or they slip below the shoe and then they slide around and annoy me. I might be using the wrong ones.
Peds aren't even for sissies apparently. Nobody likes them. I can't imagine why they still sell them. I've never found anyone who wears them.

No, no tags. I will look in my "white sock drawer", and let you know the name. It is just some no name brand.

no, no tags. nothing about tags. Sticking up a tad, as in they are visual outside of the shoe by a small amount. Not really completely hidden under the shoe line. At least the ones i have tried.
The only thing I don't see sticking out of the shoe, at least to some small degree, are peds.
But many people have tried to show me the error of my ped ways by explaining that there are other options that work just as well. I just haven't been able to find any. Maybe I will someday, but up until now there is always a little bit of sock showing. Perhaps this is a fair trade off to most people. Way worth it not to wear peds or not to wear shoes without socks. I just can't choose the sock sticking out a tad alternative when I can just wear peds. I'm a non-repentant ped user. I don't want to commit such a fashion faux pas but rather than use anything else I would prefer it if peds just became more socially acceptable. Rather than change myself I would like the world to change instead. Ask me how that has worked for me so far.

Let me tell you about what is called "wasting socks". "Wasting socks" is when you put new socks on for a short period of time. Socks are "wasted then", because unlike a pair of jeans (for example), socks cannot be "repeated" if worn for less than a day (except in case of emergency, see earlier beach post). You are making more laundry for yourself, and decreasing the lifespan of the sock due to all the washing, only for a couple of hours of enjoyment.
I can't believe you people.
ETA: "Slipper socks"? I have to look these things up. Perhaps there are different "wearing rules" for them.

Wow, Dapper has some serious OCD sock rules. :sunglass:
Being leisurely, I prefer white ankle socks - Hanes in warmer weather, Joe Boxer in cooler weather. I will share the Hanes but not the Joe Boxers.
I don't mind white ankles for dress up either. If Letterman can get away with it, so can I. But, if I get that "you are not wearing those" look, Hanes black ankle sports socks will do.
If I am going to be exposed to the elements in cold weather, blue nylon knee hi's over the ankle socks makes things toasty. It's about comfort, not fashion.
I did once own a pair of those socks with the separate holes for toes but my toes developed serious separation anxiety issues.
I am not fond of slipper socks cuz they have those no skid rubber things on the bottom. Being able to slide across the floor like Tom Cruise, is imperative.
*Anya*
10-28-2013, 08:13 AM
I never realized so many of us have sock rules!
When I was in the hospital last year, I would always get a new pair of warm footie things with no-skid stuff on the bottom.
I would get a pair in the morning and then after wearing all them day, another clean pair at night.
I came home with about 15 pair. They are awesome in the winter. I have to wear them in bed because my feet get cold otherwise.
My GF cracks-up at the contrast between a sexy nightgown (or nakedness) and my fluffy footies.
In warmer weather, I wear either white crew socks folded down or no-show sport socks to bed.
Socks always have to be clean.
Always.
If I take a shower at 5:00pm, wear shoes around the house, go to bed at 10- those 5:00pm socks are now dirty.
I then have to get clean 10pm socks to wear in bed. It is the law. No dirty feet or dirty socks in bed. Ever.
Almost every day my GF says: "Are you doing wash again?!
Yes dear.
The same rules for shower and bedtime socks and/or footies, apply to daytime socks.
It is a complex world we live in, us OCD types.
It keeps that washing machine going.
Have you tried the peep toe version?

Well thank you. Although I can’t imagine any scenario where these would ever be useful for me. However it is the thought that counts. And it’s important that ped use of any variety be encouraged. Toward that end, here is another kind of ped that I would never ever in a million years need but might come in handy for others.

The 4th one on the right foot. It looks like a little baby purple carrot. And my foot is all swollen and black and blue as well. Who knew a toe could be so annoying. I mean it's such a tiny thing. And my toes are usually so discreet, you would barely know they were there. Anyway to make my sad toe feel better I am wearing my favorite socks today. Nothing special in the looks department but they feel so nice. Here's a pic of today's socks.

I so agree. You can't repeat socks. Sometimes I try if I only put them on for an hour or so to run to the store or some such thing. I've tried tucking them in my shoes to encourage me to wear them again because really they are still clean, but I always take them out in a short time and throw them in the dirty clothes. I just can't seem to do it. I started leaving them out on a little ledge on my nightstand so I can reuse them, but after they are there for a while I end up tossing them in the dirty clothes. They never make it to be reused unless I end up running right back out within the hour. Now I don't even bother to try. I just throw them in the dirty clothes immediately and try to forget about the waste of money because I have to use the laundromat in the building since we aren't allowed to keep washers or dryers in the apartments, and the wear and tear on the socks. Luckily my feet like to be free so I rarely wear socks at any other time except to go out. I don't sleep in socks, my feet hate that. They like to breathe.

Well thank you. Although I can’t imagine any scenario where these would ever be useful for me. However it is the thought that counts. And it’s important that ped use of any variety be encouraged. Toward that end, here is another kind of ped that I would never ever in a million years need but might come in handy for others.

Well I'll be..... I have only seen these in toes only version, without the elastic. There really are socks for every and all occasion. Never will I wear these but I am now aware of their existence. I learned something new today :)
My sock rules are few but unyielding.
1. No repeating socks. Ever.
2. No shaking socks when taking them off. I have no wish to ingest your sweat encrusted foot skin particles once you have dispersed them into the atmosphere. Disgusting!
3. It is impossible to wash socks too often. It is ok to wear them for an hour, or less, then put the in the wash basket.
4. No wearing socks with holes in them. I do not care how at attached you are to said socks. Bin them.
5. No sock sharing. If you forget your own I will let you choose any pair from my extensive collection. They are yours now and I do not need them back. Ever.

Yes, slipper socks have different rules as they are really 'house shoes' and should be treated accordingly.
BUT
They should never go outside, no matter how close the garbage is or how dry the ground is.
Never.

I never realized so many of us have sock rules!
Almost every day my GF says: "Are you doing wash again?!
Yes dear.
The same rules for shower and bedtime socks and/or footies, apply to daytime socks.
It is a complex world we live in, us OCD types.
It keeps that washing machine going.
I can't even go into the rules for panties.
Those rules are even more complex and would need a separate thread.

I am really glad I started this thread. There is some serious sock angst that clearly needed to be worked out. There's so much sock angst it's positively emo.
I really don't have any sock "rules". I re-wear mine when they haven't been worn long, I wear them in bed after I've walked on the floor, sometimes I even wear slipper socks more than one night in a row. I'm like a fucking sock rebel.

I was so glad it was finally cold enough to break these out! I wore them over black lace (lace rose design) leggings, with a long sleeve black shirt, and a gray/white/black jumper type dress, and the Mary Jane's Gaige picked out for me last winter. I was extremely comfy and cozy at work today! As a bonus, I felt extra specially girl like, and stuff.

I don't even know if I have the strength to write all this... but here we go...
So today was the dreaded match and purge black socks day (and other items). Yep, I have black socks of various lengths, hues you name it. Fun, fun, fun trying to match those puppies up. Fortunately, I was texting with a good friend, which did make the dreary chore much more pleasant. There may have even been some meta sock commentary involved. Even after the purge of mismatches, I still have way more black socks than I will ever need.
My Hanes classic white ankle socks arrived in the mail. Hooray! They are quite comfortable. However, thanks to Dapper, I am now not so sure I like the length. Gee thanks, lol.
(Nail clippers from California arrived fine. But how about my tennis shoes and flip flops??? Nooooo. What do I wear my new socks with? Yesterday I came home from lunch- Mexican food and a massive margarita- to find my nail clippers in the mail box and a box on the porch. Only the box was for a Jennifer. No Jennifer lives here, not to mention this isn't Bluefield Road, not even close. So I call the post office, they come and get Jennifer's box to take to her. Since I got a package in the mail box, I thought I got everything for the day. Plus I was a bit foggy from the margarita. I don't drink all that much, especially at lunch time, but trust me I needed it. But no, apparently I got Jennifer's stuff, and someone- perhaps Jennifer- got my shoes. Tracking says delivered. Yeah I guess. Just not to me. Today I get up and call the post office. The mail man brings me my socks and underwear. He says he will look for my shoes. Still no word. I call the post office late afternoon. They are gonna get back to me on that. Oh geeze. At least I got my hair cut today, that always makes me feel better.)

The little hard plastic things on the end of shoelaces are called aglets (sometimes spelled aiglets).
What?
What do you expect when you come at me with useless trivia?
It's on like Donkey Kong!
Also, speaking of DK, the music that plays during the first stage in Donkey Kong Country, in the level called "Jungle Hijinx", is actually three demo tracks pieced together.
Maybe it's called a footlet cuz it LETS the FOOT do something for which I do not know?
You know, the definition of footlet is: 'a low sock for women covering either the whole foot below the ankle or only the toes, worn for protection or warmth'. So, that means all socks that rest beneath the ankle are footlets.
Hmmm....

It's a slipper, no? Or as my mother would say, "beddie".
Which is kind of weird (to call a slipper a beddie), because you don't where slippers IN the bed.
She also calls a vaccuum cleaner a sweeper. Which of course makes no sense.
She calls taking the dog out to pee, "watering the dog".

LOL. Watering the dog.
Yes, it's a slipper but it's wearing a sign that claims it is a footlet, which, as we have come to understand, is a low sock covering either the whole foot below the ankle or only the toes. I think it's having an identity crisis. I could wear a sign that says i'm a rutabaga but it wouldn't make me one. Seems we always come back to this on these boards. Who gets to say how we identify? We do. If i look at that way, I guess it's a footlet. But I think it might have been coerced. And it looks like a slipper to me.
My mother called them house slippers, I guess to distinguish them from all her other slippers. Her ballet slippers, her ballroom slippers, her glass slippers and of course her ruby slippers. There's no place like home.

Hmm. You're right I did lump you in with other peaceable non violent individuals who have become quite combative regarding the peds issue. I jumped the gun there. You are not a peaceable non violent individual unless you are. It fluctuates if I understand correctly. You are capable of going one way or the other.
You understand perfectly. :blueheels:
What are peds? Peds is a brand name for what is called a footlet. I don't know who would call them that or even why. It makes no sense. Footlet. Now that angers me a bit. I guess I'm not very peaceable myself. But seriously what is a footlet? Why would someone name something that. A socklet perhaps, but a footlet?
I agree. Adding the ending "let" to the end of a word suggests that it is somehow smaller or more diminutive. So, we're really dealing here with a little sock-type-thing not a little FOOT. Just thinking about a footlet gives me the creeps.
How many socks rest beneath the ankle? And look at this:

It might be wearing a sign but in what world is that a sock?
What the motherfucking FUCK? WHY did you do this? That is one of the most horrifying things ever. That is NOT a sock, and I feel sorry for whoever made that sign who thinks so. I would say it qualifies more as some kind of hideous slipper. My grandmother used to wear slippers like that.

Hmmm....
What happens if you have an ankle sock that shrunk in the dryer and now rests below the ankle...is it then transformed from an ankle sock into a footlet? :seeingstars:
Also this convo is my first ever introduction to the word "footlet" and already it's annoying me. This sock needs to be renamed, if only for the sake of my sanity...

I love useless trivia. Although I don't believe any trivia is useless. Knowledge is power. Someday knowing what they call the plastic things on the end of shoelaces could save your life or the life of someone you love. And that information regarding the music in Donkey Kong Country...priceless.

It might be wearing a sign but in what world is that a sock?
Our world is only a tiny spec of what's in the Universe.
Maybe footlets are all the rage on Saturn.
You don't know.
All I see when I see that house slipper is warmth.
<--has poor circulation

Slipper socks can be worn to bed.
Calling a vacuum a sweeper is not strange. It's generational and regional.
Some people call water fountains bubblers.

A forced footlet.
So sad.
Some people call water fountains bubblers.
Where I grew up we called it a bubbla.
I been outta there almost eleven years and I still drop my Rs
And unless they have changed the meaning of adding "let" to the end of a word on Saturn, footlet would still be a dumb and annoying word.

Nothin' at all to do with those toobs of salty, spudliscious, snackage.

My Pringle socks, of which I have around 6 pairs, are wearing really well at 5yrs old...I can date when I bought them exactly.

I DO have socks that are 10+ years old that I still wear. I guess Gemme and willow are harder on their socks than me. Or I just have a more difficult time parting with some old favorites. There are a few pairs that are probably a bit too worse for the wear and should be thrown away or something that normal people do.

It is a very nice day here today and I want to soak it up for a few more days until I really have to break out the socks, footies and whatever else I'll need to stay warm when the weather changes again.
I'm not sure if this should go with underwear or socks, but it seems more sockish to me. As an always worn/carried item rarely seen by the public, am I the only one who still carries a handkerchief?

Rose colored fluffy bed socks. They came in a set of three--a rose colored pair, a black pair, and a striped pair with rose, black, and white stripes. It makes me wish I could wear the whole set at once.
OMG--who else layered several pairs of socks in the 80's, wore them with high top sneakers, and rolled up their jeans to show them off?
<---------Totally did that.

Sock layering is more functional than fun for me. Poor circulation plus low temps make for freezing tootsies. I do it nearly every day in winter.
I'm doing it RIGHT NOW.
BTW, I totally got cute, fuzzy, super soft socks for Christmas.

The sock thread! Layering has always freaked me out. I have the sensation of one sock sliding inside the other and it disturbs me.
The only winter adjustment is whit ankle socks to white crew (6 inch up the foot) socks. For work, there are times I will wear thicker cotton socks instead of the trouser/dress socks. I work inside though, so it doesn't matter much.

The socks only slide around if they or the shoes don't fit well. It's good to match a thinner sock with a thicker sock on the outside.

Well, since you are the layering queen, you should know! I thought it was more of a problem if it was a thinner sock inside a thicker sock. I don't know. I just remember the feeling (eons ago), was creepy. If I wasn't so lazy I would get off of this recliner, go upstairs, and try it again!

Sooooo, it happened last night. Being 5 degrees outside, it got a bit cold in here. Mostly because I didn't consider that I was up later than usual and my automatic temperature control changed to overnight temperature level..5 degrees colder. My feet were freezing and I remembered Ms. Gemme and her layering. Indeed, it works! Warm toes!

I purposefully bought plain black ankle socks this weekend.
BUT, I had a good reason, I swear! Every now and again in life you just have to tone down the sockage to show off your bright red shoes.

Apparently I went out tonight wearing only one sock. It was yellow with pictures of nail polish bottles on it. On the other foot I wore only my sneaker.
I have no idea what to make of this.
I love my fuzzy socks. I've got every colour imaginable. People make fun of me and can't understand why I would wear such thick socks but when they are so soft on my feet, I can't resist!

I don't know, but it is concerning.

I've learned that it's best to wear a pair of my white gym crew socks with a pair of longer wool socks with my boots on snow and slush days but it's good to wear a thin pair of socks with thicker socks, but not necessarily wool, on cold and dry days. For regular winter days, a good thick pair of socks can do it or two thinner pair.
I have not been to the institute of sock mental illness but then again, I've never gone to work in just one sock.

My job here is to make all the other sock wearers look good.
(I sacrificed all sense of fashion for that dryer part. We almost fixed it. I did put the do hickies on backwards and/or upside down three times in a row (the pieces that hold the heating coils in place) but it wasn't my fault cuz I asked first. I tried every which way to hold the heating element up so my friend coud drill it in to the back of the dryer, but yeah finally had to assume the position on my hands and knees to hold it in place. It's a good thing I had those big blue fuzzy socks on because the basement is cold. Then my friend almost got electrocuted while I was telling a story. In the morning she went to finish up. After it was all done, she went to push the dryer back to the wall and heard a large pop. :| The new dryer will be here on Thursday.)
I am wearing my favorite socks- gray wool with cushy lining. I love, love, love them. I have 2 pair.
