Do your feet feel itchy as soon as the weather starts to warm up? Do you relish that thought of climbing over rocks, dusting up your shoes, and re-emerging from the solitude of the woods exhausted, slightly-sunburned, and utterly satisfied?

If so, you're probably a hiking enthusiast.

I personally love hiking at a little place here in Connecticut called Sleeping Giant. It's perfect for someone like me who has all the sense of direction of drunk squirrel. The paths are clearly marked and they have great maps. Even though you know you're surrounded by people, you feel blissfully alone in and surrounded by nature.

Here is a photo from one of my fall hikes:

Do you hike? (Feel free to post your own photos!) :)

HIKINGHIKINGHIKINGHIKINGHIKINGHIKING!!!

This is the thread I've been waiting for. I LOVE to hike, in any weather.
And I'm lucky enough to live somewhere with mountains and forests enough to hike for the rest of my life. Most people walk the larger marked path, but I know all the little unmarked ones so I can have them all to myself;)

This is my favourite one though. It's small and unknown so I can often go there and be completely alone<3

But one thing I have always wanted to do is walk the Milford Track in New Zealand, it's supposed to be the most beautiful in the world.

today.....

I explored a new path at Quabbin Reservoir. I found a secret little pond with turtles living in it...saw two doe....3 tom turkeys.....woodpeckers...a deer bone....much coyote scat....a possible moose print...an eagle and numerous cellar holes with lots of ancient goodies in them. It was a magical day :)

Love to hike year round here! I agree that forests kick ass!

I used to mountain bike on the trails, then 7 years ago I got :dog:, and feel bad leaving him at home. So, I traded my biking shoes for hiking shoes. I often miss riding, but I feel too guilty leaving my guy at home!

He is a Jack Russell, so he has lots of spunk and can last for miles and miles. The area I live has many, many trails with a significant amount of parkland.

I absolutely love hiking, climbing and backcountry snowboarding. If it involves getting further away from society, sign me up! I'm on the trails here in Colorado almost year round... And especially spoiled living in Summit County with National Forest trailheads right down the road! We're still wrapping up snowboarding right now but in the next month or so it'll be safe to hit some of the real high country trails on foot (without avalanche gear). I've been living in Colorado fulltime since 2010 and slowly but surely working my way to the summit of each its 53 14ers (14000' peaks) every summer. I'm at 17, and feeling good about 2014! It'd be cool to continue to share some photography of our hikes in this thread.

I'm also going go give mountain biking a try this year :) With my lil stubby legs, I can only get so far hiking...I want to explore further sometimes. As long as I'm in the woods I'm happy!

My finals are finnnnnally done and it is time to celebrate! Sounds like we're driving down south around 3am to get an early start on Humboldt Peak. It's a pretty low key hike/scramble to the summit, which tops out just over 14,000 feet. First fourteener of the season, glad it's an easy one. But for now, we drink!

Couple pictures from our recent backpacking trip along the Gore Range in Eagles Nest Wilderness... It eventually turned out to be gorgeous............ after 2 nights in rain and snow.

Pisgah National Forest (this is actually about 20 minutes away)

Nantahala National Forest

DuPont State Park

Cherokee National Forest

Needless to say...much hiking will ensue :) I will be posting here a lot...and with my new phone, the pics should be amazing :)

That's my dream also! I'm seriously considering going in March...getting back in time for nursing school in September (if I get in right away)

That leaves the fall and winter to train and get in shape...I need to get much gear.... I'm telling everyone back home to get me gift certificates for Dick's....and no...the irony is not lost on me ;)

Ooh what a brilliant thread! Thanks Girl On Fire. :D

Yes I love hiking too, in summer or winter or whenever, through forests or up hills or wherever. There's so much to see and so little time. :)

I'm about to head off for 2 weeks hiking across Spain. I'm planning to take a lot of pics.

I love everyone's photos on here, they're so beautiful and I can almost imagine being there . Keep them coming.

I absolutely love hiking, but sadly don't do enough of it. This thread has inspired me to change that starting today! Instead of languishing on my day off, I'm going to hike Devil's Dyke, part of the South Downs National Park. The plan is to get lost in nature more mentally than physically (but I'll bring a compass just in case!) by trekking through the rolling hills of the English countryside ending up along the coastal part of the park. It's a beautiful summer's day for a hike! :)

I'll be in the North, carrying a rucksack, sleeping in hostels and hiking through countryside and villages and maybe a city or two.

What does everyone else have planned?

I am SO excited at what I found today.

Those pesky ads they post on the side of Facebook and such...well...I saw a hiking sandal I loved and clicked on it. It took me to a site I had never heard of but I'm instantly enamored!

www.plantegear.com

It is just for women and it has all things outdoors. Tents, backpacks, apparel (which only goes up to size large tops...sad for us busty girls :( ) All of it at a wicked mark down. But it seems their supplies are limited.

This is PERFECT timing. Mama needs a new pair of (hiking) shoes!!!

This is a favorite place to visit, during spring or summer. It's gorgeous during the fall months. Hazardous, during the winter months. Rico and I are thinking about our wedding plans and this is one possible place we are considering.

Lots of places to hike on trails throughout the Columbia River Gorge.
Truly breath-taking beauty. :stillheart:
