That is cool. Not my city girl cup of tea, but cool! I totally understand wanting to feel free. I am working on being entirely debt free, all I have left is the house. :)

Hey , you did it ! Thank you :)

So, I've spent so much of my life doing things alone that its absolutely ridiculous. There are so many things on my list...but what first comes to mind is turning to the one I love and saying:

"Can you believe we did that!"

and "that" could be a sunrise on the Serengeti, or the Sunday paper in bed...I yearn to build those memories.

I'd like to see how high I can climb, literally.
I'd like to write my mother that letter...you know... "You've been such an inspiration ..."
Make amends with my sister,, but she still bugs the everlovin shit out of me...still working on that one.

There are more buckets to list...I'll have to come back to do it.

There are things on your list you can do now. I think you should. How can I help? Write the letter. Time is short. Love your family. Even when you dont like them they are still your blood. Do what makes YOU happy, brings YOU peace and then go add more shit to that list.

Very interesting. Much of your list is on my list. I have ridden the Orient Express, with a band called Miss Hollywood and the BiSexuals. I've been to a Concentration Camp. (really life altering experience) I've been to Rome and have been to the Vatican. As a matter of fact I was at Christmas Eve Mass on 12/24/1978. The Pope touched me as he exited St. Peter's Basillica. I've traveled Europe and England but did not go to Ireland, as the Troubles were in full effect when I was there. I promise you, all of these things will enrich your life, excellent choices for your bucket list!

I posted my bucket list on my blog back in June, I'm sure a missed some, but here it is:

Be published.
Complete a triathlon
run a marathon
Meet the Governer
Shake a sitting President's hand
See Wimbledon
Go to the Kentucky Derby
Go to the Masters
See a Super Bowl live
Go to the Olympics
Spend a month surfing the North Shore
Hit a hole in one

There's probably a few more, but I like Andrew's list.

Diavolo,

What Concentration Camp did you go to? I have been told it is life changing. I would like to place a stone ontop of Mr. Schindler's grave as well. He is in Paradise feasting with God for what he tried to do. I have relatives who were in various Camps, but mainly Auschwicz (sp??).

Jess,

I think that place sounds like a rip-roaring good time! You must share your adventures there with us afterwards.

I really enjoy seeing everyone's lists here. I don't have much of a list of my own and have been trying to figure out where I want to go from here.

Here's my list, as it is:

* Get both kids prepared to be independent and launched out into the world (nearing the finish line on that one)
* Experience living alone (nearly there, see above)
* Find a mate to make the rest of my life with (might be nearing the finish line on that one, too, but only time will tell)
* Own my own home (done) and make it my comfy sanctuary (working on it)
* Be debt-free (nearly there) and prepared for retirement (working on it)
* Decide what I want to be when I grow up

I never really had the money or freedom to travel much and have had to do a lot of focusing on the here-and-now, so things like "see the Grand Canyon" or "visit a concentration camp" have never really been on my radar screen as things I could do. Time to start looking at things from a different perspective.

I went to Dachau. You can feel the sorrow of the souls there. They recreated some of the beds where they housed the prisoners. You look at them and think "that's not too bad" then you find out they put six people in each one. We thought we'd hit a "museum" in the morning and the HBH that afternoon. Stupid college kids. That was the most somber afternoon of beer drinking of my life. A couple of kids in our group were Jewish and they were even more affected than we were. I'm German and I knew a great Uncle was a member of the SS. Very sobering to know someone in your line could be involved in such atrocities.

One of the things I forgot to mention is getting an RV so I can take my furkids along too. But I want to travel to Alaska via RV. Then sell it. And take a train across Alaska, and cruise back. I want to see the glaciers. Meet the National Geographic skin divers who are documenting the global warming effects on the animals.

Diavolo,

I understand. I have family members who were in the Holocaust and in Poland at the time. One member is still living, and tells us stories about it. Other family members stayed in Europe to live, and never left. We hear from them often, but they never speak of the horrors. It just is an unwritten rule to talk about.

Rosie's step father was in WW2. He helped liberate a concentration camp. Then he was given a leave because he was Jewish. To this day he has violent flashbacks of what he saw. Just horrible.

He was honored at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC when it first opened. We could only make it thru the first level (there are 3). It is just that realistic so nobody forgets what happened. We have gone back since then, and still cannot make it past the first level. It is way too painful. How people can do that to other human beings is beyond me. It makes my heart very sad.

Finally be able to speak up to my parents and be able to talk to them.

That is very cool. Very few people will admit to knowing or even being related to someone who was in the SS, but I think it is important. It's important for me to say "Yes it happened" to invalidate the holocaust denial wingnuts.

Diavolo,

Rosie's step father was in the US Army. He was in the infantry. He sat on the back of jeeps and shot a machine gun.

Relatives that I speak of were prisoners of the SS.

I just am not sure how anyone can deny the Holocaust. It blows my mind.

See Wimbledon
Go to the Kentucky Derby
Go to the Masters
See a Super Bowl live
Go to the Olympics

I will say that I've been fortunate to cover a lot of really cool sporting events in my career, things that a lot of people would love to see/do.
I've covered an Olympics, Super Bowl and BCS National championhip game. I've covered major college football, the NHL, minor league baseball and hockey, major league baseball and the NFL.
I still have dreams of covering a World Series game, the Masters and the Kentucky Derby.

I never really had the money or freedom to travel much and have had to do a lot of focusing on the here-and-now, so things like "see the Grand Canyon" or "visit a concentration camp" have never really been on my radar screen as things I could do. Time to start looking at things from a different perspective.
Time to do it, girlfriend!!!!

Check out these four guys: hella bucket list (http://www.theburiedlife.com)
I know it's four 20-something guys, but they busted their butts to put stuff together and do things long before they started getting folks like MTV behn them, and I respect that.

As for my bucket list:
* Learn to surf
* Backpack across Europe as if I were a college student.
* Own/ride a Harley.
* Have my erotica published.
* Start a line of queer romance books.
* Visit Ireland.
* Learn to play the guitar
* Drive I-10 from St. Augustine to Los Angeles, then go back on Route 66, then write a book about queer America along those paths.
* I want to scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef.
* I want to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail.
* I want to go white water rafting in Colorado.

That's for starters.

Now THAT will be a most satisfying check on the ol bucket list !

I'd like to know that I was a positive influence in the world.

I'd like to know that what I do makes a pronounced and positive difference in my community.

I work toward that daily and hope that what I do will culminate in a massive check-mark on my bucket list of deliberate and intentional living.

I keep coming back to this. There are lots of things I'd love to do, but nothing that I feel I *must* do before I die. When I came out, I vowed to try to live as fully and authentically as possible every day. For now, I get a lot of pleasure enjoying doing things with my partner and my kids. I hope we are able to visit some places together. I love to see the world through their eyes. My partner, especially, hasn't been to many places, nor have I, really. I hope to have the money and time to visit places in the US and throughout the world. The pleasure isn't just in seeing the sights, but seeing them with others and enjoying their enjoyment. And, in the end, I just hope to know that I lived simply, honestly, and loved as much as I could. My ideal future has a picture, also, of sitting on the porch with the one I love, just savoring the sunset together. Is that corny? It doesn't mean I don't want adventure, but I don't seek adrenaline for its own sake.

I'd like to own a diner with home cooked food and daily specials. With a diet menu, aka portions. And a hungry man menu. A family place, a hang out. Of course I'd like the adjoining building to be a bar with the bar food type menu.

I always wanted a cowboy gourmet. southern cooking with a twist. most of my recipes are modified southern.

I love country cooking.

Sachita!! If you buy a horse (or lease one) I'll come stay and teach you how to ride properly!!

My list!

Tour the coast of Ireland on horseback

Live on top of a mountain

Have a large herb garden

Play and laugh with my grandchildren

See my children find succes in all of thier endevors

Own several horses

Speak spanish fluently

Have a huge, slobbery dog to love til the end of my days

Have a bestfriend

Whitewater rafting

Spend a whole summer in my barefeet, swinging on a tire swing

Travel the world

Find myself beautiful

Believe him when he says he will love me forever

See a ghost

Forgive my mother

Forgive my father

Forgive myself

.........

lol- I haven't figured the horse part out yet. I was thinking about taking lessons then letting them help me pick a horse then train me with that horse.

wow what a cool list. I want to learn spanish because I want to take trips to Panama and Costa Rica.

The tire swing and barefoot definitely down for. I hate shoes.

When I learn to ride I'll go with you to Ireland.

Get yourself an RV, park at on the farm and you can have as many herb gardens as you want. Of course Farmer J will put you to work! Better you than me! lol

even tho I dont drink alcohol at all, the house I am buying has a HUGE pergola filled with ancient grape vines that were used for decades to make wine...I think I need to make some wine! LOL

I too want to have an enormous garden...and am already designing the area I am inheriting with this new house. They had a huge garden, fenced in, and I will put my hands within it soon...

I want to see my daughter happy, and not so stressed with graduation, not so nervous about not being married yet, not so needy to have children yet...I want her to be in a job she loves, with a man she loves, with babies all around her that she will share with me...

I want someone to love the color of my hair, the softness of my body, the badness of my mischief, the warmth of my heart...and if not, then I wish to be on my own as I will not sacrifice the joy I feel about myself for the burden of someone else's misery they could transplant onto me...

I want to travel some...and even tho I have this spinal thing, it comes and goes and if I take care of myself, Iwill have the energy and ability to travel.

and take care of myself is #1....I want to die sober. I want to live happy joyous and free. I want to keep a healthy lifestyle and I want to glory in my ability to take care of myself...

I love indian food. I actually was growing my own curry leaf plant but it got zapped this last winter in the greenhouse. I really need to turn you onto this. I love combining things such as indian and asian, using a good seasoned wok. I love my flavors to be exotic and when I have time, which isnt much, I could live in the garden and kitchen.

I love wine. I understand how some people can't drink. Wine is magical. There's just something about it. I rarely drink anything else.

I have a few grape vines that just started producing. I think about putting in a lot more but then I battle with time and the truth is everything I do is just too much. I'm feeling a little tired and burnt out. Part of me wants to downsize into a tiny cottage, little garden and a few fruit trees. lol- but hell, I bought the 30 acres thinking, "I'll keep part, sell part and keep it simple." Next thing you know I was putting up buildings, greenhouse, chicken coops, small orchards and the like. I'm typical Taurus.

me too! I am so tired of being the one who is out there, sowing the seeds, transplanting, setting up the rows, watering, making fert soup, etc..etc..etc...while they think just cuz they rototilled they did their part! The real garden is in the journey to the harvest, not in the start of the soil! I think symbolically, and literally, I need someone who wants to do the active part of gardening so the harvest is truly "ours"

I also said i would marry the person who helped me have horses. I dont think I can anymore, but I do want someone who will try to fill that need somehow...

again, its part of that slow dance, that knows how to lead because they know where I will follow...

exactly. don't settle. Someone has to really step up to the plate to impress me. I'm a strong and capable woman. I can run circles around most. I'm tired really and agree that its time for someone to lead... if only they can. I will not turn the reins over to just anyone. The truth is I just might end up alone. My expectations are pretty high.

I have been thinking... lol... such a dangerous thing, I know.

I dont want to wait until I die. I want to do this within the next 5 years. I'm a serious as a heart attack.

I'm so bloody sick of government and this bureaucratic BULLSHIT. I've come this far to sustainability and I need to go much further. I would like to live as people did before all of this. To be independent of money, taxes, the damn structure. Hell I'm not even sure about being green if it means I have to rely on industry to provide me parts. If I was stranded on an island it would be hard and I'd fight for my survival yet the reward is at the end of challenge when I arrive at peace and a connection to my universe. Now we can struggle to survive and it never ends. It makes us more tired, more fearful and spiritually unfulfilled. The root of this evil is money.

Is anyone else feeling this?

Sooooo, I think I'm going to make some changes and they could be drastic. There's so much more to life than this.

*I would like to visit Canada again,
*Kayak the rivers of Arkansas, so beautiful were the ones we seen.
*Find a cousin of mine that lives in Vermont Iroquois reservation, and bond again.
*Get a lot more fishing time in, even if I catch nothing at all.
*I would love to welcome 2012 in Sydney Australia watching the fireworks.
That’s about all that I can think of right now...

Update:
Have now been smoke free for 7 months today..smiles
Doing all I can possibly do to show up and love those around me.
I am walking atleast 1 to 2 miles everyday, and working so exercise is happening
Going out of my way to make sure pictures are taken, Goofy moments are caught, and my legacy will be my beautiful children/grandchildren being well, happy and know what true love means.
Also that I am remembered for my love, peace, laughter and fun moments.

So atleast for this list, I am well on my way..smiles

Will add more to it as time comes.

I too would like to visit all 50 states, some more than once and NY when the ball drops for New Years! I probably got about half of the states visited so far! Paris, Canada, Mexico again, Jerusalem.

We travel a lot, and we've been fortunate to experience a lot of extraordinary places in the world. But what we really want to do, or see, are things that we're afraid will disappear or change somehow. So we want to see the place where the Monarch butterflies migrate to in Mexico before someone cuts the trees down, we want to see the Galapagos Islands before someone puts up a Chick-fil-A, we want to go to Machu Picchu before it closes to visitors because people can't keep their hands off. We want to see migrating wildebeests sweeping across the Serengeti before the crocodiles eat them all. I watch Animal Planet - I know how it works.

I am proud to be marking another item off my bucket list soon...

We are going to Washington DC in May to see the Smithsonian and the Lincoln Memorial and and and...i am SO EXCITED. It is something i've wanted to do my entire life. When i was in grammar school and the safety patrols went, i couldn't go because of a softball tournament and i've regretted it ever since.

I was pondering my list and i've actually marked off quite a few things in the last 8 years....

I have marked off the following...

Touch a cow
Feed a goat
Go into an outdoor toilet
Ride in a motorcycle event
Call a bingo game
Talk on the loud speaker at a store
Sing karaoke in a bar

I am proud these things are marked off. May seem like silly things, but they are things i wanted to do. It's the small stuff right? Winning the Nobel prize is not important to me...lol.

Still have a lot of things to do, but i try and keep them all in my mind so that when an opportunity arises, i'm ready to check it off.

And away we go.........
