Nothing excites me more then a cowboy. Cowboy boots, 501's, hat and a pickup.
Screw the disco, I'm grabbing some bales of straw to sit on, loading up the boom box with country music, filling the tub with ice and beer and setting up the bourbon table, all in the woods. So drop your tail gate and lets have some fun!
recipes, country music, southern cooking, hats, tractors, anything redneck.

I don't know about the redneck part (depends on how you define it, like a lot of things, and there are some things associated with that term I cannot abide), but I definitely have a thing for country butches. :onebutch: Boots, leather belts, pickup trucks, "yes, ma'am," country music, tip of the hat ... a special kind of charm. :awww:

Fried Chicken......will it be crispy? I like mine with some crunch. I like to cook, but I also like when someone else cooks for me. I never mind helping in the kitchen.
Now lets get the music cranked up for a line dance or three. I only know one, so I'm up for learning if someone wants to teach me.

ohhh you gotta check out that link I have here on perfect fried chicken. Southern Fried Chicken is an art. When you soak it in buttermilk you're adding flavor and fat. Its all about the fat. lol
Then you want to oil just right or you'll have brown outside, raw inside. The link will tell you a lot. Give it roll.
But we'll be happy to provide the fried foods if ya'll bring the fixin's.
Now the way I heered it:
Ya know yer a redneck when:
1. You mow the front lawn and find a pickup sittin' there.
2. You go to a family reunion and find a date.
3. Yer belt buckle is made from a beer can.

I am a Yankee living in Oklahoma and I'll admit, no matter how hard I try, I can't fry. I can never get the oil right. It's either too hot or not hot enough. I can cook almost anything, but keep me away from frying anything.....unless I have a deep fryer I can set the temperature on.
Potato Salad, my number one favorite comfort food. The recipe my mother makes below, but I like to put dill AND sweet relish in mine. If you want to get really decadent, sprinkle bacon bits on top!
:eating:
Ingredients
* 5 potatoes
* 3 eggs
* 1 cup chopped celery
* 1/2 cup chopped onion
* 1/2 cup sweet pickle relish
* 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
* 1/4 teaspoon celery salt
* 1 tablespoon prepared mustard
* ground black pepper to taste
* 1/4 cup mayonnaise
Directions
1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes and cook until tender but still firm, about 15 minutes. Drain, cool, peel and chop.
2. Place eggs in a saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring water to a boil; cover, remove from heat, and let eggs stand in hot water for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from hot water, cool, peel and chop.
3. In a large bowl, combine the potatoes, eggs, celery, onion, relish, garlic salt, celery salt, mustard, pepper and mayonnaise. Mix together well and refrigerate until chilled.

I can make my Momma's handed down nanner puddin... The "pudding" is egg yolks, an obscene amount of sugar, milk and vanilla...slowly cooked and constantly stirred (sorta like a roux)...
I've been told that its some grand stuff. I dont eat it, but apparently, I sure can make it....

Christie you crack me up with your snake phobia! Snakes come out when it starts to get warm, usually about April you will start to see snakes. The cooler the weather the slower they are. So from May to October in our area you will see snakes, or might see snakes. Your chances of it being a poisonous snake is about 1 in 5.

When I first came to live on the plantation with Jess, I was sitting in the house one morning, checking email and waking up. Jess, outside watering landscaping yells, "Hey honey! Come here!"
I walk out on the screened porch and Hy is pointing to a 6' black snake sunning in the grass not two feet from the front door.
With the high pitched screech heard as far west as Memphis, I was back in the house, on the phone with my father. It went a lil something like this:
Me: "DADDY!!!! How do you get rid of snakes without killing them?!?!?"
My father: "Well, punkin, what color is it?"
Me: "black"
Father: "Well, what shape is its head?"
Me: "I have no fucking clue, I didnt get that close"
Father: "what shape is its eyes? are they slanted?"
Me: "I wasnt that close. I didnt ask its heritage."
Father: "Well, how many are there?"
Me: "I dunno - I didnt ask if he had friends and family. How the FUCK DO I GET RID OF IT?!?!?!"
He then proceeds to go into a litany about good snakes and bad snakes and how we wanna keep the good ones...
KEEP the GOOD ones?!?!?!?!?!? :overreaction:
I didnt go back out into the yard except to the car and back for a good month.
Don't even get me started about how the next year as I went across our dirt road to check the mail and there was one laid out across the drive, blocking my path back to the house. Or how I was stuck out there for a good hour. Or how I refused to check the mail anymore without being armed.

I hate snakes too. I lived in South Florida in the Florida Everglades. I have a few rattlers from snakes I killed including a 5 footer that was going to strike my cat. I love animals but when it comes to dangerous animals that can hurt my pets they cant stay.
Remember how the chicken coop is in the barn? well there use to be a quick latch. It auto latches when swing the door. I had just moved to the farm and thank goodness my mom was visiting because at the time I didnt know anyone up here. I went to feed the chicks in the coop and there was this HUGE black snake that had a lump (chick) and couldnt get back through the chicken wire. I opened the door with a shovel to kill him and that damn door latched behind me locking me in that coop with that snake. I chopped off his head and his body kept moving around. Chicks running, screaming, me screaming, snake flopping.
It was almost close to an hour before my mom wondered where I was and came out to the barn. I tried sticking things through the wire to open the latch and no luck. I was close to slamming that wire down. If my mom hadnt been there I would of had no choice. I had that latch changed asap.
I've been here 5 years and I've only see maybe 4 snakes. Nothing like south florida where I dealt with them on a regular basis. The snakes here arent dangerous.

I am a bourbon drinker. Have you ever tried Basil Hayden? its actually not a sour mash which I'm told would not really be considered bourbon. Next in line under that would be Markers Mark. If I am feeling brave Bookers but to be honest I rarely feel that brave, its 100 proof. But if I want to save money and want a nice sipping bourbon I'll have Old Forester. Jack and be on sale and you won't get my indian ass near it.
But seriously, see if you can find Basil Hayden. Pour a little in a wide glass, sit back, close your eyes, take whiff, then a sip and let it warm you.

Well, my Dad is a big hunter. I was too when I was a kid. We used to go duck hunting every year. This one time, my Dad, my Brother and me were sitting there in the blind. We all had goose stamps. And, well, a couple of Canadas were coming in, and my Dad had the shot. He dropped it, the dog went and got it and he threw it into the blind behind us. We were sitting there looking up, waiting for the next flight of ducks, when we heard a noise. That goose was up, and headed for the exit. My Dad took his knife and killed it and threw it back. And we were sitting there looking up.......and heard a noise behind us. Goose was back up, bleeding profusely, headed for the exit. So, Dad grabbed the goose, wrung it's neck, and threw it back. And we are sitting there.........and then the noise. Goose is up, bleeding profusely, head off askew, headed for the exit.
Well, Dad beat the thing into a greasy spot with a spool. We never did get a goose that year.

Your story gave me a good laugh Legend! I too duck hunted with my Dad. For duck hunting we had a 12' flat bottom boat we used and had a blind on the boat. Daddy called it the wet your ass boat! I wish I knew how many times he fell out of the boat, or turned it over and we both fell out.
We'd come home, wet and happy. Mom or Grandma would be having a fit. Git in here you'll have your death of cold! Aren't you about to freeze to death? I don't know what it is about women that they don't understand, we don't have a clue what cold it as long as we are having fun!
Be mindful this is in the south, I'm sure if I fell in the water in the northern states I'd be cold and not having fun LOL

Well this was in Missouri, so we didn't use boats, we used dogs. Too many cattails for boats. But we did a serious amount of hunting when I was a kid. If it was could be hunted legally, we did it.

So.. the girl is telling me ( on the phone) about a certain Paula Dean brined chicken that is fried in buttermilk. She rolls through the ingredient list and goes on to tell me how she is gonna make me some, as I have been known to have notorious cravings for fried chicken. I listen.. shaking my head, but still smiling mind you, as she describes the brine. At the completion of her description, I ask.. " so what do you do with the sweet peas in the brine?" as I have never heard of this technique. She says.. " Is THAT what the f*&^ got you so caught up on this , cause it's sweet TEA brine.. NOT sweet peas".. hrmph.:boink:
Do they make bifocals for ears????
We may bring fried chicken.. or sweet peas.. but we'll def be drinking sweet tea! :flowers:

I brined a turkey a few months ago and it was awesome. I think brining chicken would be good but at what point do you soak it in buttermilk? See I soak mine over night and a whole day in herbs and buttermilk, then batter and fry.
Have you had beer can chicken? I think it might be good but I still think I can make chicken better. I might get a new fire pit this year and get a rotisserie for it. IMO this is still the best. Chicken or turkey cooked over a wood and charcoal fire.
We are watching our sugar. lol- I know we sound old but I just got this awesome man into my life and I'm gonna make damn sure I keep us healthy for long long time.

Yes, its a secret. However, I am certain I will share it with you!
The recipe called for the sweet tea brine overnight. The buttermilk and secret ingredient is more a "dip" inbetween dredging in flour.
I have had beer chicken - and its tasty.
If you are about grilled poultry, Jess makes a citrus grilled turkey breast that is.to.die.for. I am sure as soon as the weather allows, we can plan for some simple dinners together.

I always thought the buttermilk added fat and flavor. When I buy catfish or any fresh caught fresh water fish I soak it a few hours in milk. This actually does make a big difference. It cuts down on the fishy and adds yummy fat. I learned this living in the Florida swamps from the Indians. They not only use it for fish but gator tail and rattlesnake. lol- ssssssssss actually rattle snake taste pretty good if you soak in milk.
Do you have a separate freezer? Guess what I got for V-Day? lol, not candy, flowers but a Food Saver. lol How romantic! It's actually what I wanted.
I need to get a larger freezer for sure.
I have grown into the kinda girl that would rather take 6000.00 you'd spend on a diamond ring and buy me a boat, a bad ass hot tub or take me on a trip. My son kept buying me jewelry every holiday and I asked him to stop. I barely wear it and I have a long list of things I'd rather have.
lol damn I'm rambling huh? I had to take an extreme sinus pill this morning. that with coffee has me anxious as hell. Of course we go to sleep at night with 4 dogs and cats. If Bear could make it up the stairs that would be 5 dogs.

Aww Christie! Pneumonia? That's a shame and I'm sorry to hear you're so sick. What are we gonna do with you, lil Chickie?? Be careful and take care... or else Jess will have to tie you to the bed to make sure you get some rest!! (hey now! I didn't mean anything kinky! :rolleyes::giggle::giggle: ) The last time I had pneumonia, I couldn't get rid of it because I overworked and never rested or allowed the meds to help. Feel better soon, darlin'!

Have you had beer can chicken? I once heard someone from SoCal call this "Kentucky Fisted Chicken"! ... I've used a can of apple juice and roasted it in the middle of my Weber grill with the coals built up into a ring around it... it's makes a convection oven effect with the dome lid on. YUMMY!!! I think it might be good but I still think I can make chicken better. I might get a new fire pit this year and get a rotisserie for it. IMO this is still the best. How many uncles does it take to deep fry a turkey?? THREE and all THREE sheets to the wind before they started! Now that was a Thanksgiving to remember...and my Gramma's reaction was priceless!! We "injected" the turkey with an apple juice marinade. IT WAS AWESOME!! And we fed 41 people that day. But make sure you have a fire extinguisher at hand.... I bet all your sweethearts would look dashing in Fire uniforms and hats! LOL

I know you think that but the right woman could and would. Thats a fact!
Then when you meet the right person change is more about compromise and doing things to make someone happy because their happiness is yours. Funny how it works but it does. There are things about my honey I might not understand or even like but I also know trying to change them is stupid. Then there are things I change because I know they are best for both of us. Thus far he doesnt fight me on it even when I push even though I will tell you he probably is the most stubborn man I know. He knows that it comes from a place of love.
As I woman I also have a system....lol- dont laugh but it's a combination of seduction, intellect, nurturing and strength. You have to know what card to play and when. He has to want to make you happy.
When you meet the right woman it will change your life forever. Same when you meet the right man/butch, etc

Just had to quote this here not in the songs, by Jamie Johnson "The Last Cowboy"
"... the words of the songs have all changed... and all the cowgirls sing along... but who's gonna ride them away... when the last cowboys gone....
Why does everything have to change... til the last cowboys gone..."
And Heidi Newfield's "Johnny and June"
"...they dont make love like that anymore... is that too much to be askin for..."
Because sometimes one person's work in progress is anothers perfection.

Haha! So YOU started this thread!
Actually, I discovered that my big ass mulch wheelbarrow makes a great beer and ice hauler. The wheels make it handy to serve all the purdy girls sittin' on them bales of straw...

Though I certainly don't ID as Redneck, I have made Cowboy Koolaid before.
Ingredients:
1 cooler (preferably the kind with a spout for serving)
some ice
all the liquor you have left over in the liquor cabinet
any available koolaid packets, the sugar-free kind works best
shake cooler, and serve.

even though my southern accent isn't heavy I might be a redneck or at the very least a country girl. Although someone once questioned how I could call my property a farm when it wasn't a real farm. WTF is a real farm anyhow? lol Let's see I got a garden and grow food, have my own goats and hens, lots of space and no doubt I AM a farm-girl!
