Since my family is all over the place, I'll be having a quiet day coloring and cooking. I am considering a Cornish hen, mashed potatoes, something healthy and green, jellied cranberry sauce and pie. I want pie this year. Not pumpkin, though. Maybe apple or cherry.

It depends on the weather and work schedules (my mom and youngest brother). We tentatively plan to rendezvous in a central location and spend it with my eldest son, if possible.
If that doesn't come to pass, then most likely I will spend the holiday with close family friends.

This will be the last time having my sister near for Thanksgiving, so we are having it here.
Turkey
Ham
Dressing
Mashed potatoes and gravy
Fresh green beans
Vegetable salad
Olive and pickle tray
Sweet potato casserole
Hot rolls
Pumpkin pie and Carmel cheesecake
Coffee
Soda
Beer and wine
This year there will only be 10 of us... There used to be 30-40, with much laughter and love. I miss them.

We keep it low key here. Dinner with small immediate family- my parents, my brother and his family. No idea what we'll be having. We usually potluck and I'm usually in charge of veggies so I'll make some sort of fall veggie dishes.

Not sure what we are going to do..i know i'm cooking dinner lol..i tried to suggest to spouse that maybe he could cook Sunday dinner since he has done no cooking since we married (his excuse is I don't like his cooking, NOT!) So I have a bet with him that if Hillary wins he cooks once a week..lol..i can't believe he actually fell for that!!..
Thanksgiving menu is still being developed but it's just comfort food loaded to the max! I will post it once I have an idea..The spouse is definitely in charge of wine and pop..and maybe a special surprise(to me) dessert (we'll see).

No specific plans as yet. Prior years have been sealing up the house with us in it, watching movies, and pretending the rest of the world doesn't exist until some time after the first of the year (except for me going to work).
Always good food at my house. My honey is a fantastic cook.

I'll be having Thanksgiving with my aunt and uncle, cousins, sister, parents, and hopefully my gf. They usually make an effort to have some vegetarian items.
This year is going to be something totally new to me......will post after Thanksgiving though. It WILL be an incredibly wonderful time with some really kind, loving folks...I can hardly wait!! to be amidst this beautiful family...:)
My life will be so very blessed & my cup surely will runneth over....:sunglass:

I am making a two week road trip out of it. First a three day drive from Florida to Traverse City, Michigan. Brrrr. Then back down to Ann Arbor for a couple of days. Then over to central Illinois and then town to Texas for the actual holiday. Finally a thirteen hour trip back to Florida.
I could have made a couple more stops in Ohio and Kentucky, but I was afraid the trip would just about kill me. As it is I'll get back just in time to move from one house to another so renters can move into the one I am staying in now and then take off for two weeks to California for Christmas. This is so not like me. And I am not healthy. But I think it will be a good thing. I am looking forward to it. I need a change.
Edited to add: Re food, I have no idea. I am a guest. I will probably provide some wine and beer. Good beer. ;)

Two days of the year we close the store early. Yes, we are open 365 days of the year. The days we close early are Thanksgiving and Christmas. Usually we are open from 8 AM til 3 PM, but it is always hard to get out the door at closing because of the stragglers. It is always Bevi and I on those 2 days (our employees get a paid break) so we can greet and thank the customers who have supported our business all year long. There may or may not be some special coffee for close friends /customers on those days. When we close up, there are always offers to join others for their holiday feasts but the last 2 years we have found just going home and sitting by the Glenwood was much more relaxing.

Part of the day will be with family (blood relatives). I'm hoping a good part of the day is also available to work on holiday decorating. I could use a little bright n shiny right about now.
Looks like I am cooking a turkey. Ugg.
Okay, I am trying to wrap my mind around this. I bought a small turkey, stuffing, green beans, cranberry sauce, and a Sara Lee apple pie. Mom will be here to help me. I am really good at cooking meat so mom will help with the rest.
I will concentrate on all the things that I am thankful for.
I hope all my friends here find something to be thankful for.

I have to work Friday and Saturday so no long weekend for me. However I am so looking forward to the wonderful meal and fun time with my family. I am sure we will have others show up that need a place to hang out which always makes the day even better.
Love my family.

I have been thinking about how inward I have been for quite a while.
Depression can do that to you.
My LA daughter is having dinner with her dad and his third family. My other daughter is on the other side of the country with her family.
My mom is having dinner with my brothers and their families.
Boo hoo for me.
I am volunteering for a local soup kitchen that serves people that get their one hot meal a day.
No heroics, just time to look outside myself to people that are really suffering in this world.
For me, homelessness would be the worst. So many people in this country are.
I am fortunate.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Spending the holiday in the country with my parents, brother, aunt and uncle. I'll be making spinach dip, strawberry pretzel salad, broccoli salad, and green bean casserole. I'm also making this cranberry relish that I heard about on NPR the other morning. It sounds funky but delicious, to me. My mom is skeptical...lol.

My big brother and I will toss the football as we always do on Thanksgiving, and we're all hopeful that my aunt and uncle will keep the politics and bigotry to a minimum this year. :)
I don't have any family family here in Texas. I do have some excellent friends who include me in their family functions. So blessed!!

We were going to some friends who cancelled also, so I'm going to cook our dinner and we will be here alone unless some of the grandkids decide to show up. But since I made my stepdaughter move out I have become "the bad guy", so I doubt very much any of them show up.

It's that time again!!
I'm spending Thanksgiving with JD's family and will be rustling up a pumpkin pie, some kind of veggie, and whatever bread they want (usually homemade cheddar bay biscuits).
We eat and then sit around and chit-chat. Something tells me that this year we might be taking JD's Mom out to shop. (and I kinda love it!)

Have decided to shake things up this Thanksgiving and head down to the Fl. Keys for the week. The teen wants to visit a marine research institute and discuss the effects of cello music on the growth of coral. She is really into coral conservation....and indigenous carnivorous plants. Gotta' diversify. I told her as long as I get some time on a sailboat I'm game for anything.
So, no turkey and fixings for us. Thinking more along the lines of grouper and oysters and frou frou drinks with little umbrellas.

We used to do a big family dinner every year. I did all the cooking for about twenty people. When I started law school, I realized I couldn't do it anymore, and a new tradition was born. Now we stay home, in our pajamas all day. We only cook the parts of Thanksgiving dinner that we like the most, and we watch the parade and dog show and movies. It's a wonderful retreat from the rest of the world. We don't do black Friday shopping, either, so that whole weekend is quiet and peaceful.

Nothing.
I have no family and all my local lesbian friends are hooked up and either doing nothing or having huge family things.
I was planning to spend it with my male friend the chef and his gang, but he's the one who died last week so I'm thinking that's off.
So far, 2018 has really sucked.
As an optimist, I usually see the glass as half full...and it still looks half full to me, except the fluid in it is hemlock.
If the GOP retains the House and Senate after the mid terms, I'm considering a career in becoming a bag lady with a shopping cart filled with black plastic bags that contain assorted crap. All I need is an old lady hat with a veil over the face and a buzzard on top.
Good times!(w)

Oh, I forgot about Black Friday. The thought of elbowing other people in the head at 12:01 a.m. so I can rush into some big, crazy store like Walmart and step on toes so I can cram an 80" TV I don't want or need into my 45" cart, then trying to fit it into my car and end up using bungie cords to tie it to the roof, then having it bounce off the car and hit the pavement because of a pot hole...nah.
Instead I might buy my cats some turkey flavored Fancy Feast and take 100 photos of them eating so I can post them on Facebook.

No worries! A lot of the box stores are so greedy that they are open on Thanksgiving Day so you don't have to wait until 12:01 anymore.
Like everything else, I miss the old days when you got into line around 5am and that was the 'early line'. It had more camaraderie and less carnage too.
Personally, I will make something for myself...maybe an extra treat for the fur babies….and I will take that day and the next day to do work around the house and maybe take in a movie at the theatre. Nothing fancy. No extra company. Just me, myself and the two sets of eyes that follow me around everywhere.

I cleaned ours a few months back and SO far it's stayed that way, but I have a feeling it's only because I've threatened Mary's life every time I see her heading out the door with something in her hands that I'm sure she's headed to the garage with!

Sigh. Nothing this year. It'll be quiet. The minis are too little to really do a full out meal for. So, meh.
Mom and I are cooking at my house. My cousin, her husband, and stepdaughter are coming over to enjoy the day with us.
Mom and I worked all day moving boxes out of the living room. Yay! We are exhausted.

Going to my sister's house. Mom finally gets a break from holidays, which it should have been done long ago.
There will be 18 to 20 people this year.
I'll be working, then off to a friend's house, and then we will go out for Chinese. Not really a holiday I celebrate.

Today I'm installing the winch I always wanted but didn't have a good reason to purchase. Until now. I'm scheduled for double knee replacements in early Dec, and my living space is on the second floor. I'll get myself up and down the stairs, but I wasn't so sure about how to get my groceries up to the kitchen. Viola! The remote controlled winch will bring my groceries for me. Yay for Harbor Freight, the land of ridiculously cheap tools!
Thanksgiving? Oh, right. I'm so thankful for my amazing friends who are competing for the chance to help me with the few things I won't be able to manage on my own.
I'm thankful for a busy season with full employment for this freelance artist. I've saved up a small cushion of funds and I'll be able to recover comfortably for a few months without working.
I'm extraordinarily thankful that I live in a place where the absolute premier orthopedic surgeons practice, and that the hospital where they practice has an impressively low rate of post-op infection. I'm also thankful to have good health insurance through my Union, and that my excellent surgeon takes my good insurance.
Finally, I'm thankful for my resilient body. Through no virtue of my own I consistently heal well from the trauma of surgical intervention. I recognize that it's almost 100% pure luck to have the ability to bounce back from physical injury. I'm aware every day that others haven't been as lucky as I am in that, or any of the above circumstances. I thank the Goddess for it every time I think about where I am today and where I might have been had any of the above things not been true.
I don't really celebrate Thanksgiving when left to my own devices, but I do practice thankfulness for my fabulous life. Today I'm particularly thankful. I wish everyone good health and good fortune. I hope you all get to celebrate this holiday the way you love best, with the people you love best.

I don't really celebrate the typical holidays during the months of fall or winter; but I generally spend time with chosen, long-time dear friends doing some sort of project together that is either something someone hasn't had time yet to get done (home/household projects -- remodel projects) or we generally all go out for dinner as a group or we invent our own progressive potluck party:
One time it turned out that we each made a portion of the meal, but we drove to each person's home to have that specific part of the meal. Of course, we vote on whether we go out for dessert or such. It depends on the amount of people who have time to spend a holiday together.
If it's just me, I wait until the holiday is over and then choose a day of the holiday week to go do something special on my own. I actually like making my own special holiday plans for my own special 'holiday'. I like those the best. But I also enjoy spending time with long-time, dear friends. We've all known each other for years; so when we get together, it's like a reunion party of sorts.

Thanksgiving is right about the time when Chicago’s famed Christkindlmarket gets going, a lovely tradition you won’t want to miss out on. It’s basically a combination of a Christmas craft fair and a German food extravaganza – two of my favorite things in one! It’s a great place to get some Christmas gifts and is a wonderful way to experience Chicago’s strong German heritage.
One fun tradition I particularly love is sipping on their delicious hot spiced cider, which comes in a collectible mug. The mug designs are different each year, too!
Getting In: Admission to Christkindlmarket is free.

Will watch The Irishman (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Expe7hf6MU) on Netflix and binge and catch up on my favorite series, Watchmen (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zymgtV99Rko).
Will chat with family on the phone and try not to cry when thinking of my sister.
And will count my lucky stars.

It's our first big holiday since my brother died and no one is feeling celebratory. Hopefully my nephews will be in good spirits, it's easy to just direct our thoughts and attention to them.

I've been told that I will have a plate delivered to me courtesy of the cantankerous Southern helper for one of my customers. He and his twin brother make my day every year when they come to work with my customer's stuff. I know there will be proper dressing. Other than that, it's a surprise.

Hopefully Thanksgiving will involve Daddy, me, and my daughter. If none of us get put on quarantine between now and then. We will zoom with my parents and sister in law and nephews at some point. Over the next day or two I'm going to make some of the traditional dishes that I always make for Thanksgiving and leave them on doorsteps for my parents and Sister in law. (wearing a mask and gloves while cooking) I will make my mom fudge bars that she loves and my Grandma's corn spoon bread that we all love. For my sister in law and my parents I will make a dish that I have made almost every year since I realized it got my brother to eat Brussels Sprouts (Sorry cover your eyes for a minute Gemme) I roast them with fresh cranberries and top with a confetti of crumbled bacon and roasted pecans. My brother loved them. I couldn't get myself to make them last year without him here to eat them but I'll try for this year. For my nephews, I will drop them off a vat of my pasta that they love so much. It's very simple but they lose their minds for it.
At home we are planning a simple fish dinner. My daughter is baking bread, Daddy wants to get big lobster tails, and I will make some vegetable sides.
I hope everyone stays safe this year, though it can feel lonely.

I will be going over Wednesday, arriving when she does, post work, & we will make our dishes ahead, as many as we can. She ordered a 12-15 lb turkey from Tomato Express..with apricot/cranberry/apple/walnut & saged stuffing! She is making a greenbean casserole, mashed potatoes, and gravy..all vegan. I am making "our" mock potato salad....cauliflower, dill pickle relish, roasted acorn squash, crushed red pepper flakes, S & P, vegenaise, green onions, white onion....YUM YUM YUM.
Will be her daughter & I eating turkey, as C. is vegan. BUT will freeze most of my portion!
We are so excited....I go there alternately with her coming here, weekends. This is "our" weekend getaway!! I will keep this apartment for a few more months....as it affords us escape & privacy!
Wishing everyone a pleasant week ahead. Celebrate safely. We have a VERY limited "bubble" & we are extremely sanitary...so feel safe being there Thursday, then back here Friday til Sunday!!

Today I delivered holiday meals to homebound elders and then went home to nothing special. I don't like turkey very much and I usually avoid this holiday. But this year I had planned to spend the holiday with my close friends in their new house in the Bronx. We were going to eat steak and watch motorcycle racing. Woo-hoo! I get tested once a week at work and I would be getting a test on Monday preceding Thanksgiving. That would be good enough, right?
And then I saw Rachel Maddow's raw, emotional piece where she speaks about her fears and her devotion to her partner who had been very sick with Covid. Then she made an extremely personal plea to everyone to reconsider our holiday plans.
Damn.
Well, after that I couldn't very well visit my friends, one of whom is older and the other comes down with pneumonia regularly. Saint Rachel of Maddow must not be ignored. Sigh.
I'll eat all the steak and watch all the MotoGP once we're fully vaccinated.Stay vigilant and be safe, everyone.

No formal plans yet but if the kids are out of town I'm going to have some kind of something Chinese that reheats well. No one delivers out this way save for one pizza place. Their food is okay but nothing special, not for the price. For not much more I can get a variety of tasty foods, not just one thing that may or might not bear repeating. I'll ask one of the kids to run an order over before heading out of town. If they stay in town it will just depend on which of her family visits. If it's those who don't care to socialize I'll just do the take out and later sometime over the weekend we'll probably go out for Chinese, have a second Thanksgiving of our own. Otherwise we'll all gather at my oldest son's place.

It will be a difficult time with sadness since I won’t see anyone, but doing what I can to care for myself helps a lot.
My plans include: reading and listening to the 1619 Project book I just received (this project comforts me in ways I can’t explain), calling family and friends and leaving messages for those who aren’t available, spending some time outdoors at the lake taking photos if it’s not too cold, picking up a pizza or some Chinese food, and creating layouts of designs of a 1619 project quilt that’s been on my mind.
It won’t be a perfect Thanksgiving, but it will be workable and at the end of the day I’ll be able to fall asleep thinking of the things I’m grateful for.
Hoping everyone has a nice Thanksgiving.

These days we pick-up dinners at the local senior center. We sit in our recliners (no diningroom or other table large enough to eat at). This apartment is too small for any other furniture. We have 2 small tables.
When I was working, this would be the start of my major holiday OT period.
Many of these shifts had incentives. Some were double-time, some with a comp. day off. Other nurses would comment about my cold approach, I'd always respond by asking how many gifts were under their tree and how much was gotten without incurring debt. My family has no problem celebrating Yule on 12/26. Milk those capitalists for all their worth.

This year, my sweetie is going to be out of town at his parents place, helping out with a project that needs to be done and over with, so I have plans to be chauffeured to a few bars, which close friends of ours own, and have fun on my own with long time friends. Then when my honey is done with the parent project, we plan to have a special supper and share stories from our Thanksgiving weekend.

5th annual Prime Rib dinner. I'm inviting a co-worker over. She is so excited!
I've had enough turkey and all that entails. It will be twice baked potatoes, 24 hour fruit salad and a pumpkin dumpcake.

Taking Brittany my dog to meet my mom. I will cook the traditional turkey meal in advance, take it with me in a cooler, and finish it there. Then the next day we will come back by way of my sister's house so the whole fam can meet Brittany.
This may all be off, depending on how soon we can get Brittany cured of giardia.
Bèsame*, I am dying to know what's in a 24 hour fruit salad, and also a pumpkin dumpcake (sounds easy! maybe?) Could you please post the recipes here if you have the time?

Usually for Thanksgiving, I cook a huge meal. I spend days in the kitchen cooking, hundreds of dollars on groceries, and I'm exhausted when I'm done. I'm already pretty fried, so the thought of all that work is daunting. This year is just going to be the two of us, so I ordered dinner from Whole Foods. It will come with a small roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, cranberry sauce and gravy. I even ordered a pumpkin pie. All I'll need to do is pick it up the day before and heat everything up on Thanksgiving. Way less work, I know it will be good because I've eaten food from there before, and it actually cost less than buying the ingredients to make everything myself. That means I'll get to relax, watch the parade, watch the dog show, and not have to worry about burning the turkey. I'm very excited about this.

I considered ordering the Whole Foods meal, too. There will only be the 3 of us. I don't remember why I didn't do it, but I think I will reconsider. It sounds like a winner! (We should compare our meals afterward.)

This Thanksgiving will be spent with my good buddy and her family. They're a lively bunch and I'm happy to spend it with them. I'll be a sous chef and will help with prepping the food.
I'll bring an apron for the chef a bottle of vino for everyone else.
Hoping y'all have a nice holiday whether you're on your own or with others.

Last year we bought dinner from Whole Foods, and it was so good we're doing that again this year. Max and I decided to stay home for both Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. The last six months have been so hard, full of deaths of loved ones, we both had COVID, and me unexpectedly starting a new business after my boss died. I really don't want to travel for the holidays this year. So for Thanksgiving, same as last year, we'll be home in our cozy clothes watching the parade and dog show, and eating food we didn't have to cook. For Christmas, we'll be doing basically the same thing, except I'm cooking dinner.

I used to cook Thanksgiving, dinner at my house, with lid and table, clause, and fancy centerpieces, matching, winterberry, dinnerware, and crystal goblets. God, I loved it!
But now, it’s my daughters turn. She always has a houseful of family and friends. She’s a great cook! But she uses paper plates. There’s no tablecloth. No decorations. And that’s OK. That expresses the two different styles between mother and daughter!
The one great thing this year is that they already put up their Christmas tree! And they have the silly cat named Kevin. He’s named after the kid in Home Alone. And he has crawled all through the tree many times since it’s been up! There are no ornaments on the tree because of him, lol.
My wife is cooking our meal......milanesa, green beans, potatoes & gravy, mac n cheese, salad, and a made from scratch pumpkin & cream cheese no bake cheesecake with blueberry compote.
3 of our kids will be here & 3 of our grands. PLUS we will make plates for our elderly neighbors, and spend the day with family, making memories!

I'll be home with Mom. She is still on soft foods. She'll get mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes. I'm going to make a runny stuffing with gravy and emulsify it. Worth a shot.
I'm thinking shrimp and salmon for me.
Probably start the Christmas decorations. First out side. I love pulling up to the house and seeing lights.
All my peeps are going out of town. I did make zucchini bread for my boss to take with her. Score some points with her Mom.
