What are those simple, therapeutic things that bring a sigh of relief and a feeling of gratification & inner peace?
Some of mine:
~ Cleaning the kitchen spotless after a meal (somehow stuff ends up everywhere)
~ Putting something where it belongs
~ Sitting in front of the ocean watching the waves
~ Handwriting
~ Watching old 1940s/50s How To and lifestyle/household clips
~ Crochet
Not sure if this thread is already out there or not.

Great topic! :)
A few of mine:
*Running my fingers down my girls gorgeous, long strawberry blonde hair
*Staring at the fireplace
*Reading
*Adult coloring books (I learned a new phrase in one of them, "Twat Waffle")
*Rubbing dogs bellies
*Observing the Minks and the Blue Heron in the ravine behind the house

Some things I do might not be too ordinary, but I find lots of pleasure in doing them, because there's an heart connection behind most all of them (and, I listed them out of order):
* filing my natural nails and buffing them to a gloss.
** sharpening kitchen knife blades (my dad taught all us kids years ago, but it's a worthwhile skill).
*** cooking in the kitchen.
**** tangled up with my Sweetheart and listening to his heartbeat and observing his chest rise and fall, as he breathes.
***** bicycle riding (I can hardly wait to be well enough, so I can ride my bicycle again).

What are those simple, therapeutic things that bring a sigh of relief and a feeling of gratification & inner peace?
It depends on what kind of peace I'm looking for but these are some of my 'stress busters' in general:
crafting
reading
listening to music
watching Psych....I never get bored with this show and wish it hadn't been cancelled
the feeling of my super soft fleece bend throws on my skin
the warmth from being the small spoon and their breath on the back of my neck
snuggling with a purring kitty or a snoring pup
watching snow fall
watching fire dance
sitting in a dark theatre, right before the movie begins
Silence.
I love silence it is very therapeutic to me.

If I'm angry I clean the house from top to bottom all at once...nothings gets "the mad out" quite like cleaning.
If I'm troubled or stressed...quiet and sometimes the escape of a nap.

Guess because it's in the blood, many things about Native culture is very very calming to me, but I especially love drumming. Something happens where I go into a trance when I'm listening, feeling the vibes. Definitely therapeutic for the soul.

I forgot watching videos of crafters. It's very soothing. Sometimes they have music I don't care for or I don't care for the sound of their voices at that time, so I'll play my music in the background and turn the sound down on YouTube.
I especially like it when they put the video on double/triple/quadruple time and I can watch their masterpieces unfold like a time lapse video.
Speaking of which, time lapse videos are really fun to watch.
Also, I meant 'blend', not bend re: my warm, soft, fuzzy throws.

Sitting under the moonlight especially in the wee hours when most are sleeping.
Looking at things that I find to be beautiful. I don't need to own them, but I might like to touch them, somehow it calms my soul and soothes my nervous system.
Being in water makes most everything better.
Building fires (I seem to have a knack for it *laughs* pat pat pat) and gazing into them reflecting and daydreaming.
Live music and dancers inspire me, gets the juices flowing. Ahhh wine as well.

I find meditation therapeutic before yoga class.... it doesnt have to be long, i usually take 5 to 10 min.. I find it relaxing.
Oh, and hugging helps too! (http://health.usnews.com/health-news/health-wellness/articles/2016-02-03/the-health-benefits-of-hugging)
It used to be a walk on the beach or sitting on the rocks looking out at the ocean, but the ocean isn't accessible to me on a daily basis anymore so I needed to find something else. This works for me every single time. A walk in the woods with a pocket full of nuts, seeds, etc, stopping to feed chickadees, nuthatches, woodpeckers, and tufted titmouse along the way, (titmice is the accepted plural however it is not really etymologically consistent since tit is an old English word meaning little and mase meant small bird. The name titmase morphed eventually into titmouse.) I think this need to explain about the plural of titmouse makes it pretty clear why I need to find ways to relax. Here is a pic of me feeding a male downy woodpecker.

You must love WaterFire. I was dating someone at Brown around 1999 and she was one of the volunteers feeding the braziers so I had a front row seat. It was right around the time WaterFire was beginning to grow and I really enjoyed it. A few years later I was amazed at how big it had gotten. I took my wife one year, maybe 2007, and it was humongous. I think it was more fun when it was smaller.
Anyway to stay true to the thread, I also find fire, especially on water, very peace inducing. Barring burial at sea, which I doubt I will get, I would love it if someone would just stick me in a canoe, tow it out to sea a bit and set it on fire...after I'm dead of course.

Rainfall....... it's very soothing to hear. I'm actually lying on top of my bed, watching it come down in sheet after sheet....then it stops for a bit....then, it begins to rain again. Therapeutic for me means relaxing and being grounded...
Taking time alone in nature listening, observing, and just being as one with my surroundings. I am not talking a park or in the back yard. I mean the wilderness with no other people within yelling distance. I am very blessed to have grown up in that type of environment so it is very therapeutic for me.

For me:
"Fiddling around"-detail cleaning the kitchen, bathrooms, even my car. The more strenuous, the better.
Washing dishes by hand, even though I have a dishwasher. I think it's the feel of suds and warm water, and the definite beginning and ending of the task.
Throwing things out. Today, in fact, I've been feeling unsettled for some reason and I purged a big box of papers.
Listening to music and doing genealogy, even if it's just examining hints.

As others have stated it depends on the mood.
If I am snorting mad then weeding the flowerbeds. Several years ago when my longtime ex and I broke up I actually won "yard of the month" in my subdivision. (Every cloud....)
When stressed I like to read autobiographies or walk in the woods. Meeting up with friends who like to laugh helps as well.
If possible (and it rarely seems possible anymore) a long drive at night with the sunroof open. A couple of hours on the road, get to the next town, grab a bite at a diner (helloooo, Waffle House) in the wee hours, then head back home.

Well, right now, after a rain, just standing in the doorway of my Hermit shack by the beach, looking at the peaceful lagoon, smelling the fresh Spring air, seeing the pretty flowers and new leaves on the trees and grass growing is therapeutic.. Still too cold to swim, but I like going beach-combing. Sometimes, just sharpening my tools and knives is therapeutic, or going to the flea-market and buying an old chair or table to strip is therapeutic. Sometimes just watching some old Disney cartoon can be therapeutic for me.

Writing, uncensored getting all those feelings out, then burning what I've written.
Buying canning jars too roughed up to use for canning, taking them home/outside, and smashing them all to bits. Then sweeping up the mess. Tranquil.
Ask others what they suggest when it comes to fixing a problem. Then in most cases, do my all out level best to do the exact opposite. Sometimes I don't know what the right choice is until I hear the wrong, stupid one.
Doing something nice for someone I care about who has it so much worse than me. I had a nun suggest that to me once and so long as it's done in moderation, it really is helpful.

NICE! do you grab a bag of popcorn too!??? if not I'll join you and i'll bring the popcorn

No popcorn. Don't want dirty fingers handling clean clothes.
But there are TVs and some comfy chairs to wait in and they put tiny vehicles on display, like these (https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS866US866&biw=1536&bih=754&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=yhW-XaHdF-TF_QaYrqyQAw&q=tiny+antiques+vehicles+on+display&oq=tiny+antiques+vehicles+on+display&gs_l=img.3...15367.17593..17896...0.0..0.71.589.9. .....0....1..gws-wiz-img.bsbIwKNsnsQ&ved=0ahUKEwih6v2_28zlAhXkYt8KHRgXCzIQ4dUDCAc&uact=5#imgrc=zZuLZP0P7lpUqM:). When the laundry's done, I'll take you to the restaurant and sushi bar next door. How's that?

Occasionally housework is therapeutic for me. Sometimes I get into almost a meditative state where my thoughts are free-flowing while I do repetitive work. Unfortunately, this doesn’t happen most of the time.

sometimes for me it is the simple sound of silence that helps me focus my thoughts and process down problems. If i have music going int he background I cannot think.
Cleaning and organizing my apt also helps. Perhaps it is the whole organizing thing. IDK. I'll look more into that one.

Finished two quilts, lap size.
One Christmas and the other shabby chic-ish
Quite relaxing to see finished projects.

Up early, drinking coffee, listening to the still of the morning. I can hear the train whistle and the rumble as it travels down the track, off in the distance.
I'm about 3 blocks away.

I think that you may have the start of a good country music song there.

Jigsaw puzzles, online jigsaw puzzles to be precise.
I nestled down the other evening on the sofa under a fur throw and a cat, mug of hot chocolate, twinkle lights on, candles lit and whiled away an hour or so with a jigsaw.
I find evenings like this very therapeutic. It crossed my mind how reclusive I have become in middle age. I am content.

Listening to death metal very loudly in my car on my way home…..
The loudness seems to balance my thoughts and make me calmer. Maybe it’s my ADD brain that makes it that way…

I listen to music and tinker about the apartment, do versions of Solitaire on the computer or scroll through TikTok. The last one also keeps me up at night so I try to limit that one.

I find playing in the pool at my local Y very therapeutic. I feel like a mermaid when I’m in the water. Unfortunately my right foot and ankle are healing from tendonitis, and I haven’t been able to enjoy the pool for about two weeks.

Spending time with people (friends and family) I love and adore and respect.
Especially with my partner. Spending quality time together with people I care about always gives me peaceful feelings and enriches my life and theirs.

Bubble baths with dim lighting, maybe a few candles, and some music in the background. I lock myself in the bathroom and everyone knows not to knock on the door while I'm in the bathtub.
This is short-term therapy; it won't solve anything, but it does make me feel better for awhile.

Time spent with people I’ve known over the past ten years or so. Some person, from my recent past, dropped by to say “hello” and catch me up on their own life’s events and such good feelings filled my day after spending time with them.

Reading Private Messages that you had not expected I find very therapeutic as it is unexpected and therefore relaxes my mind as opposed to expected and daily messaging.

I listen to my youtube playlists and read (usually History) stuff on the internet. Most of my youtube playlists are instrumentals, but I do have loads of movie theme music, easy listening, classical and music (usually soft rock) from my growing up years. :winky::heartbeat:

Right now I am talking to my brother and that is very therapeutic for both of us. I am happy he liked what I gave him for Xmas and I certainly like what he gave to me. Speaking to him is the best gift of all.
