If you're interested please cut and paste the list and sign up. Then pm me your address. I will give a two week sign up period so get in on this by March 25th. I will mail out the address list at that time.

I am actually curious to see how many are actually interested, honestly. Right now I am in a state of bliss, as there is not much better than to enjoy a cup of tea with a good friend, and as of right now, there is at least 10 moments in my near future.

PS In case I wasn't clear everyone is going to be given a master list of the addresses and is responsible for mailing out the individual tea bags. I am list maker only. Kind of like how we handle the postcard exchange.

For me, that would be an additional expense I wouldn't want, which gets into what CCB was touching on earlier. For those that don't have enough tea at home that they are willing to share, there's the cost of the tea itself and then, if you don't have enough envelopes or cards or other mailing accoutrements, there's that cost in addition to the cost of postage.

Personally, I have tons of cards/envelopes and whatnot so that's not an additional cost for me for the exchange but I only keep boring tea at home so I'll have the cost of finding something that I think might be fun plus the postage. That's in my comfort zone so that's what you all will get. Pre-bagged tea.....unless something amazing happens and I get a killer deal somewhere.

For the crafty types, once you've used your tea bag, you can use it to stain your papers to age them. Each tea will give you a different outcome so I think I'm going to set aside some neutral or cream colored papers and do a little craft experiment with what is sent to me to see how they all come out. Fun!

I pretty much only keep loose leaf tea at home, so I decided to buy a tin of tea bags that are individually wrapped.

Cheapie me was just going to stick them in a small envelope, but I suppose I could find some inexpensive note cards.

For me, it really is just about the tea and the socialization/bonding, so I am perfectly fine with folks just dropping a tea bag in a stamped envelope and mailing it as is. I think this would be a fun thing to do on a frequent basis as long as the cost is kept at a minimum.

So, I had to make a stop at Walgreens today for a ship-to-store pickup, and grabbed a box of folding note cards with envelopes while there. They are certainly not the uniquest (there's a fun, 67 point scrabble word! Lol) cards around but the price was okay, 50 for $9.99 with 2 different designs in the box, and should serve the purpose.

It is also a black tea, but this has orange, vanilla and cinnamon as well. It was so sweet of her to go to the trouble of getting these for me, and having to deal with customs to do so. :)

Hmm...very interesting!

I chose a different path and decided to send everyone the same tea as a means of testing the likeability of that particular tea.

I am very excited too, and am already looking forward to the next one! Mine goes in the mail today, just waiting on the post office to open so I can buy more stamps. :)

Just a quick heads up...I just returned from the post office. Seems the lone tea bag in a note card makes the envelope just thick enough that it doesn't slide through the mass mail sorter with enough ease to satisfy the USPS regulations. So instead of the usual .49 stamp for US destinations, it cost .70, and where it is normally $1.15 for International/Canadian destinations, it was $1.36. You will also have to take them to the post office and have them stamped as Non-Machinable.

I do not feel you led us astray by any means, I hope I didn't give that implication. Weight wise it was well under, at only .6 of an ounce so I felt certain I could send it via first class letter. The thickness was the problem. He actually had a cardboard with a slot cut out to see if it would go through smoothly, which it did in my opinion, but he said it had to go thru smoothly and quickly or it would bunch up the letters following behind at something like 100 per second. :readfineprint: Perhaps it's because my teabags are individually sealed and have more air? Who knows for sure, perhaps my PO is just odd! ;)

At any rate, I just wanted to give ya'll the heads up because he said if it doesn't get stamped with the Non-Machinable stamp it will end up going to nowhere land. :|

P.S. The post office sells the .70 stamps. Who knew?!

When I mailed out yesterday they had a large plastic board with a slot in it at the post office. If your envelope could pass through the opening as well as weighed under a certain amount you could mail out with just a regular stamp. Mine didn't but then I sent people multiple teabags. I also put each one in its own mini Ziploc bag to try and help keep the different tea smells from blending, as well as placed them each in small, party invitation type, odd size/shape envelopes. Though small, it made for a pretty thick envelope, the weight was under limit but it wouldn't pass through the blue measure-o-matic template thing at the post office. Knowing that, next time I would package them differently so they'd easily fit through. I'd also only buy teas of the same brand/flavor if thinking to include extras, rather than different types, so that way I'd only have to use one plastic bag for them rather than multiple mini ones. I'd also cut the zipper top off that one bag, just heat seal it closed, fold over and tape to keep other smells out while in transit as well as reduce the weight. If I'd have done it that way then I would have only had to pay for a regular first class postage stamp to send to those in the states, worst case scenario maybe needed to slap on an additional stamp. Then I’d have only had to mail those headed to Canada at the post office. I hate having to go into the post office here so the quicker I can get through the line and out of there the better. Anyhow as for mailing out to Canada by putting them in a cardboard mailer the shipping cost was about the same as those mailed first class here in the states. However since I had to buy the mailers basically it doubled the cost. But generally only one or two people from Canada participate. So that means I only have to pay a little extra to ship to Canada. On the other hand I'm thinking people in Canada have quite a few more people to ship to outside of Canada at a higher rate. Anyhow long story short next time by packaging differently I would be able to send the same amount of teabags out (assuming two participants to Canada, the rest to here in the states) for half what I spent yesterday. To me anytime I can pay 50% less it’s worth the fuss. Knowing next time it will be less work as well, because I’ll just be slapping everything together into one zipper less Ziploc for each participant, that I figure is substantial enough savings (in terms of both time and money) to be worth discussing here for those who might be thinking of participating in this type of exchange in the future.

Well, here's a couple things. Send only one teabag, FSF learned. I also chose relatively flat tea bags tazo and twinings and stash are all good brands for this. I also chose small note cards as something of uniform thickness is more likely to be machinable. Also, I smushed down the tea bag a little. Not enough to harm it but just enough to make it a little thinner.

But like I said , I could be eating my words tomorrow lol

In any case if anyone gets sticker shock at the post office and needs more time to mail out or due to cost is unable to mail out no problem on my end - stuff happens. I think the charge to mail out sort of took everyone by surprise on this one. I would appreciate a PM though if anyone, for any reason, is unable to mail out. When you receive the rock sugar break it out of the teabag and use a few in your tea as desired for sweetness. I should have these mailed either tomorrow or Saturday morning. Actually there are many teas that one can make a latte with. For example a London Fog Latte is made using an Earl Grey tea. Chai's also perform well as a latte.

Rock sugar is very similar to the rock crystal candy of years ago. Open the tea bag and use as a sweetener for your tea. I really enjoy using that. I think it enhances the flavor. :-)

CCB- today I got an envelope delivered and in the envelope was a corner of your envelope torn off and stuffed inside the one sent to me- like the mail folks wanted me to know you tried and they were not able to fulfill the mission.

Georgia Ma'am- I love that drink! I used to get it in bulk at my Asian market and it has been out of my rotation for a while. I just picked it up on a cold rainy dreary morning and I can't think of a better thing to put in my thermos to sip on. Thank you!

Okay, so I talked to the post office folks and this is what likely happened. I sent the letters through as letters and even though they were hand cancelled and marked non-machinable, it's highly likely that they did go through some machines at one point or another. Now, do I buy into that theory? Not entirely but it's the only one that comes close to making sense besides people cut them because they thought the loose packet of tea was weed or something.

Going forward, I'll send them as packages, even if they are in an envelope, which is the safest bet. The folks who paid $2.67 per piece, domestic, did that.

Received some lovely blackberry tea today, recipient used last name on envelope/first on notecard, I couldn’t place either with a screen name, but wanted you to know it made it safe and I’m enjoying it a lot :)

That was me! Blackberry tea made just for the Blue Ridge Parkway foundation from blackberries grown along the parkway. It doesn't get any more local than that!

I really hope so, as I too have enjoyed this exchange. I have and am making a point of stepping out of my comfort zone and trying things I have not before. This thus far has created some new fav's that in the past may not have considered. Tasty :) Sure wish I could have gotten in on this. I am a big fan of tea hot and cold.
