Oh man, so for starters, our tree is up already, yep, judge away! I will let bright_arrow talk about some of that, but my favorite part is the Christmas Village I have setup!

One of my favorite Christmas memories is of my grandfather and his Christmas Village. So I went and found a set I like (this one is Lemax brand) and started buying up the pieces that I wanted, and put together a village with people and animals and trees, etc. Its amazing, and I love it. Next up for my Christmas village collection will be the Hogwarts set that they are coming out with next year!

Anyone else do Christmas Villages? Would like to see them!

Our tree was up and decorated November 1. We don't mess around. We (Especially me!) love love love Christmas lights. They're one of my top 5 happy places :)

I have many memories as a child and even as a teenager sleeping on the couch (even though we weren't supposed to sleep on the couch) so I could fall asleep staring at the lights. Something comforting about the soft glow that makes my heart sing. Sometimes I get up early before work and spend five minutes cuddling the dog on the couch so I can look at the lights. It's the little things..

We went to Christmas In the Park last year and saw a lot of decorated trees and then walked the small shopping plaza. It was nice and something I'd like to do again this year.

It still weirds me out to have no snow, but they put up snowflake lights on the lightposts in San Francisco so I get to see those when I leave work at night.

I may have asked the boy to buy me an advent calendar because who doesn't like to countdown with chocolate?

Oh man,I love this season.Lots of happy memories as a kid during these days.I kinda keep Christmas especially fun.I have our lights stringed up in the living room facing the street. The outside lights are also up and ready for after thanksgiving. We usually spend it with family because for us, it's fun watching the young kids opening up presents. Some people are in a very good mood around this time, which is great energy to suck up.I love Xmas trees, but I don't believe we'll have a big one this year, may be a small Charlie Brown, with little figurines and tiny bulbs and cards with small presents to give each other before we head out Christmas morning to the in-laws.It should be fun. :smileyXmasTree:

I have purchased a tea dress in a santa print which i will wear to hear Trans-Siberian Orchestra, which tickets we have also purchased.

I love the old-fashioned snowball lights and lighted ice lights. You have to have the old type of electrical cord to plug them in, and they do get hot, but they are so beautiful on the tree. My dad loved them too. I remember going to Chichesters Pharmacy with him when I was about 12 years old, and he bought up their entire remaining supply, since they weren't being made any more. Between those, and some that I found for him on eBay, he had those lights every Christmas until he passed away. I'm inheriting them this year - they may not go on the tree this year, since it is the first Christmas without my dad and it might be too sad, but then again they might.

I've kept my tree up all year for the past 3 years. I use the lights as a night light of sort and will sometimes watch TV in the dark with only the tree on for light. I agree; there's something beautiful and magical about holiday lights.

I love this .............

So for the past 3 years you've bypassed the hauling down, unpacking then packing back up and returning to the attic, basement, garage etc etc (wherever one stores their decorations) Avoided endless fights with tangled up strings of lights (which one may or may not always win) then thwarted the process of hanging said sets of lights on tree, and then been able to side step the dilemma of what ornament looks best where! Lucky you.......:hangloose:

Indeed, I have. The tradeoff is that I have a 6 foot tree in my house all of the time, taking up space and enticing the kitteh into mischief. I will take it down in 2018 because We need more room and I'm tired of squirting the lil guy every time he gets hypnotized by the lights or shiny ornaments. Luckily, the tree is pre-lit, so I only have to check for any burnt bulbs before putting it away. The ornaments and garland aren't too bad so that's not a problem.

As much as I love Christmas and I do after losing my Dad last year on Christmas day I just haven't gotten into it so far. I don't know if I even want a tree.

I know the oldest of my 2 brothers and I are going to meet at Mommas to clean it out, paint and get it ready to put on the market.

I have listened to some Christmas music however I haven't found my spirit yet.

I picked up this small pink tree a few years ago, for a super cheap price after Christmas. Something like seven bucks!

I'm going to decorate it this year. It's sitting at the end , or rather the curve of the breakfast bar. Looking at this pic, I've got ideas!

I have now purchased thirty-eight gifts-- because i bought a new "reading is fun" tshirt for every library worker

Six more to go and i'll be done with staff-- my three direct reports will get something more besides the t-shirt, and there are three staff who never want our t-shirts (of which we buy 2-3 per year)

The three staff who never want t-shirts are getting gift bags of hurricane survival items: crank flashlights, waterproof matches, and water purification tablets-- because a some of us are still homeless from Harvey and I think we all made ourselves a lot of promises about being prepared for the next one that we have not gotten around to keeping

Have you ever added a pinch of cayenne pepper to your molasses cookies? It is an explosion of incredible flavor. The sweetness of the molasses and the little heat from the cayenne pepper complement each other.

Ingredients
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
1 tablespoon water
1/4 cup molasses
2 tablespoons white sugar

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Sift together the flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together the margarine and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then stir in the water and molasses. Gradually stir the sifted ingredients into the molasses mixture. Shape dough into walnut sized balls, and roll them in the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar. Place the cookies 2 inches apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet (i actually sprayed mine with Pam) and flatten slightly.
Bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Store in an airtight container.

We also watched Christmas movies (one was borderline Hallmark), and listened to Christmas music.

i sent some of my holiday cookies home with hym and we signed the cards for the card exchange list.

that’s more holiday activity than i have done in the past 5 years combined. :|

On cold, clear December nights like tonight, when I lived at home with my parents, we would all get in the car and drive slowly up and down our road. We were looking at the nativity scene that my dad put up every year, Thanksgiving Day until New Year's. It was handmade, life-sized, from a pattern that my parents ordered from the Sears Roebuck catalog. When they first were married, they had spent countless hours cutting the wise men, Mary and Joseph, camels and oxen and sheep from plywood, which they then painted by hand. There was a stable with an angel that hung out over the roof, and a crib for baby Jesus inside. Every year, my dad would cut down pine saplings to nail up behind the stable, so it looked like it was part of the woods, and over all, there was a lighted star with 8 points.

We loved driving up and down the road to look at it. It was even better when it rained; there were blue floodlights that shone on it every night, and the rain made it all look misty and magical. On nights when we didn't drive up and down the road, my sister and I would walk outside and look at it from under the pine trees. We would usually rearrange the blanket that was in baby Jesus' crib, making sure it was just right. When we were very young, we sometimes left one of our baby dolls in the crib to play the part, even though it couldn't be seen inside the crib from the road. It didn't matter; we knew it was there.

It left a sense of magic and wonder with me that I have never forgotten. I think of it often at this time of year. I worry that the condition of the pieces are deteriorating, as they reside in my sister's attic, winter after summer after winter. My brother-in-law put it up one year, to please my sister and me, but every year thereafter he would complain about how much work it was to build: post holes that had to be dug, wiring that had to be run for a mile from their house to the hill on the highway, the construction of the stable. It used to take my dad an entire day of hard work to put it all together, and another entire day to take it down, clean it and put it away. Needless to say, it was not magical for my brother-in-law, even though he had seen it in the blue-tinged moonlight on the hill outside our house for many years.

I lost my dad this year. I miss seeing the wonderful nativity scene, but mostly I miss my dad's delight in it. I miss helping him put it up, taking him glasses of iced tea while he was working, helping him paint the pieces in summers when they needed repair. I miss sitting behind him in the back seat of the car as we drove up and down the road, everyone remarking how beautiful it was. I miss seeing the pride and joy in his eyes when he looked at it, and when strangers and neighbors stopped by our house each year just to tell us how much they enjoyed it, how beautiful it was. I miss seeing my dad's happiness, and I think of him every time I think of the nativity scene. That was the real magic of Christmas.

The teacher had asked the kids to write a letter to Santa asking for something that they wanted and something that they needed.

Reminds us that a lot of kids in America won't have much of a Christmas if they don't even have their basic needs met.

I can't WAIT to get to Atlanta for Christmas/Yule!

We are going to the Botanical Gardens for the lights and such:

http://www.gardensdecor.com/cdn/img/chic-botanical-gardens-lights-atlanta-botanical-gardens-holiday-lights-alices-garden.jpg

And I have a metric TON of cookie recipes, fudge recipes, and various sugary balls of goodness that I want to make! ANDDDDD we have a John Waters marathon planned.

AND...perhaps best of all...we are going to the Korean spa!

ANDDDDDDDDD I am so excited that it's cold and that there will be lights everywhere and that it might snow and and and...

WEEE!

Oh, and here is an amazing salted caramel thumbprint cookie recipe if anyone is so inclined!
JD will be getting a pile of these:

COOKIE

2/3 cup Land O Lakes® Unsalted Butter softened
1/2 cup sugar
2 large Land O Lakes® Eggs (yolks only)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

FILLING

1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 cup Land O Lakes® Unsalted Butter
2 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Heavy Whipping Cream

Sea salt

Directions:

STEP 1
Combine 2/3 cup butter, sugar, egg yolks and vanilla in bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add flour; beat at low speed until well mixed. Cover; refrigerate at least 1 hour or until firm.
STEP 2
Heat oven to 375ºF.
STEP 3
Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Place 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Make indentation in center of each cookie with thumb or end of wooden spoon handle. (Edges may crack slightly). Bake 7-10 minutes or until edges begin to brown. Cool completely.
STEP 4
Combine 1/3 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup butter in small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture begins to boil. Continue cooking, stirring constantly, 1 minute. Remove from heat. Stir in whipping cream. Cool caramel mixture about 15 minutes.
STEP 5
Spoon about 1/2 teaspoon caramel mixture into center of each cooled cookie. Let caramel set about 5 minutes. Sprinkle tops of each cookie lightly with sea salt.

My Aunt Gina always made cranberry, white chocolate, and pistachio cookies every year and we nommed down on them!! She had the recipe from a really old cookbook and I still have the page in my stash!

And one of my Grannies made a fruitcake with bourbon and maraschino cherries and I don't normally do fruitcake but her's was amazing!

Update on a more positive note, full of holiday spirit:

This teacher organized the community and collected enough blankets that each child could have at least one.

I believe at last count was around 775 blankets.

They are also working to deal with the hungry children to make sure this is addressed.

Happiest of Holidays to everyone at BFP!

Papa Noel. Brenda Lee

Hey Beau, let's go and get pirogue and push-pole down the bayou,
I want to see the Christmas Tree, dance o- fais dodo
Have a big time and cut a shine, where all will be gay-o
Oh, Santa Claus will come tonight, down on the bayou
Papa Noel will bring the bells and all will be gay-o
I'm gonna be at the Christmas tree with my ma chère ami-o
So ring the chimes, it's Christmas time and pick the old banjo
Oh, Santa Claus will come tonight, down on the bayou
See ma Nannan and ma Parrain, I know they'll all be there-o,
See Ol' Quelqu'un and Mamoun, Bébé and Jo-Jo,
See Jolivet oh my sweet pet and get me some sugar,
Oh, Santa Claus will come tonight, down on the bayou
So roll the rug, let's kiss and hug and let's all be gay-o,
A merry Christmas to you all and a happy bonne année-o
I'm gonna dance all through the night, 'til daylight with my babe-o,
Oh, Santa Claus will come tonight, down on the bayou
Dionne wants a push-y-on, a pistolette and yo-yo,
My Jolivet, oh my sweet pet, Lord cher ami-o,
Oh Auntie Luce will cook the goose, and she will serve the gumbo,
Oh, Santa Claus will come tonight, down on the bayou
Papa Noel will bring the bells and all will be gay-o
I'm gonna be at the Christmas tree with my ma cher ami-o
So ring the chimes, it's Christmas time and pick the old banjo
Oh, Santa Claus will come tonight, down on the bayou

Père Noël (French pronunciation: [pɛʁ nɔ.ɛl]), "Father Christmas", sometimes called Papa Noël ("Daddy Christmas"), is a legendary gift-bringer at Christmas in France and other French-speaking areas, identified with the Father Christmas and/or Santa Claus of English-speaking territories.
