Kinky Boots... A personal favorite of mine!!
|
Been catching up on my Blu-ray viewing....
Wartime in Winter (a Dutch film) -- excellent if you like foreign films. Just really superb filmmaking -- not something the Dutch are readily known for, btw. Lincoln Lawyer -- I am a fan of legal thriller novels, and this is one of the better legal thriller books made in to a movie, I think. Source Code -- normally not a fan of sci-fi, but this came highly recommended. I liked it a lot. No Strings Attached -- bad romantic comedy. To be honest, I only watched it because I think Natalie Portman is hot. lol Treme -- ok, not a movie, but an HBO series from the same people who made "The Wire," which I think is one of the best, if not the best, American TV show ever made. Treme is about the people of New Orleans post-Katrina and how they are fighting to reclaim their city. I recommend it. |
I watched a movie last night on Netflix with a buddy of Mine called Van Wilder ~ Freshman Year. If anyone has seen National Lampoon's Van Wilder, and if not you really should, Freshman Year is the prequel movie showig how Vance (Van) Wilder became the party animal that he was known to be at his college.
Awesome movie, but then again I'm probably biased :D |
Saw Cowboys and Aliens over the weekend. It was kind of cobbled together in places, some Indiana Jones overtones in others, not as many laughs as I would have liked. I wanted it to be more rousing or something. Wait for the DVD.

Really Enjoyed It
Stupid Crazy Love

Since I am in the middle of nowhere, the nearest theatre is about 40 miles away and the only place to get movies is redbox, I renewed my Netflilx membership.
This weekend I will be watching (500) Days of Summer (finally) and Dogtooth. Will keep you posted. |
Potiche (Trophy Wife) Catherine Denevue, who is still incredible after all these years and Gerard DePardieu. I loved it, even tho it is a flashback story to the 70's where a woman assumes control of a company when her husband gets ill. She turns it around, gets betrayed by her own daughter (gotta love those woman turns on other woman for the sake of a male dynamics), reinvents herself and continues to move along in her new life as a free, vibrant, successful woman. Many other subplots along the way keep it entertaining as well. |
Movie recaps .....
Last week I watched The Rite. It was just "okay".
Rango - it was okay, nothing spectacular. Last night, we watched Diary of A Wimpy Kid - Roderick Rules. Pretty funny but then again I enjoy kid movies. Thought it was as good as the first one. Just finished watching Gulliver's Travels on Blu Ray. Eh. Campy and I started to fall asleep. Glad I didn't see it in the movies. We're in intermission right now. Next two movies to watch are The Dilemma and Sucker Punch. |

ETA: Just read your after=post. See? I told you you'd like it!! |
Harry Potter Part One was a snooze fest for me. I couldn't get into it. I hope part two doesn't repeat. I'll wait for it to hit dvd though.

|
Cast Away. Tom Hanks making conversation with a soccer ball for two hours. I realized if you watch the first ten minutes and the last ten minutes, you can skip the middle altogether.
|
Hall Pass Two middle aged guys get a week free from marriage courtesy of their wives. If you can get thru the weekend at bernie's type beginning, it is kind of entertaining. Even contains some ethics and values stuff. |
My Siskel and Ebert moment
Sucker Punch = different. Storyline was pretty weak, but if you like to see chicks kick ass, it's a must see. Definitely a movie made for guys.
Battle: Los Angeles = better than the Syfy version, but the acting was basically the same. Eh. Nothing to rave about. The Dilemma = Good thing I like Dodge cars (although I am a Pontiac girl at heart) - because it's easy to see who paid for this movie. It had it's moments of funny, but I am glad to see Kevin James moving on to better things. *passing the popcorn* |
The Eagle: Interesting perspective on the Roman/Briton conflict. Bit of a predictable story, boy sets off on crusade to restore family name type thing, but beautiful scenery and some romanticized history. In general, I liked it. I may or may not be biased, though, since I love Gaelic, and there is plenty of it in this film.
I am Number Four: Typical action movie, kind of meh for me. Interesting concept but I would have liked to have seen more continuation of the story line. It looked like they took a tiny part of a large story and expanded it to be juuuuuust long enough for feature film length. |
The documentary "Reagan". I love this stuff. Helps my recollection of history - hard to believe stuff I lived is now history, ancient history at that! What I really liked about this was the info on the strategies used in his various campaigns. Those fascinate me. |

Just finished watching The Lincoln Lawyer...it was entertaining, nothing stand out. The best two things about the film were Marisa Tomei and the soundtrack.
|
Jack Goes Boating with Philip Seymour Hoffman.
It was weird and filled with one awkward situation after another but it worked for me. |
Today we watched "I Love You Phillip Morris" I laughed and shook my head a lot and enjoyed Jim Carrey in it and usually he annoys me...
Last night we watched a very somber "Biutiful" it's heavy for sure but great. |
