also,
I got this beautiful postcard from someone in Austin--I just can't work out who its from, I can't read the name :( ....it is a photograph of a moon...so beautiful and I want to say thankyou!

that would be me, rivkeh.

my penmanship is lacking these days, i'm afraid. however, my HS typing teacher would be impressed with my speed. :) i'm happy you like it.

Nina 08-02-2011 07:50 AM

I ordered some self-adhesive postcard blanks today...they won't come 'till thursday...I have a whole bunch of color copies of vintage postcards which I have from the journals I made out of postcards...I have a Ton of heavy laminated postcards, but I don't feel they will send though the mail well, and they will be hard to address 'n stuff...I think I will send one of those to myself and see if it makes it...if so, then I have lots of cool ones all ready to send out...

even though I ordered 30 blanks, I will be hitting home depot today to see if they have any there that I can use today...I am Not known for my patience once I make a Plan, I want to start on it Now!!

I don't know why scootey hates me and never sends me any cards and never talks to me any more and never likes me any more...

hope your summers are enjoyable and that whatever, and all ever, the challenges that we all face are, you're being able to navigate them with kindness to others and kindness toward yourself...

i make mine with poster board and double sticky tape. then i use a box knife and a cutting board to cut them out. overall, i'd say it's way less expensive than buying postcards. and, it's kind of therapeutic. walgreens also has print specials running most of the time... 10 cent prints make for really cost-effective post cards.

oh, and should we call you buba now?

Nina 08-02-2011 08:44 AM

oh dear oh dear oh dear...Please don't call me 'buba'...and, I guess if anyone did they'd understand why I won't turn my head nor respond in any way at all :)

I have a lot of double stick tape stuff...and can get some poster board, maybe I will have a go at it...though I sew all the time, cutting a straight line on anything is really my nemesis...no matter all the measuring tools I have, it's still a challenge I most always lose !!

we shall see how the post-carding goes today

I doubt if any of the receivers will care if anyone colors or cuts outside the lines. ;)

you may have noticed, my cuts aren't exactly precise. i attach all of the pics to the poster board first, then use the box knife to follow the edges of the picture. it takes a little practice, but once you get the hang of it, it really doesn't take too long to knock out a few dozen cards.

scootebaby 08-02-2011 09:35 AM

Oh nina--the sweetest buba i know...there is no excuse except i am the epitome of procrastination...no wait--i am looking for the PERFECT card(ok honestly im just a procrastinating old fart! However i have to let you know that because of YOU DD and bc have 2 new ppl rooting for them on their little escapades--now if i can just remember when they come on it could be a regular affair instead of an on again off again one!

in other news we have received awesome cards from Ms. Diva,Wimsicle(sp) and Rivkeh!....i think that is all! I could be wrong tho bc aside from being a procrastinator i also have memory issues....at least i think i do!

anyway welcome to Jelli--we look forward to getting postcards from SC---sooooooon! :)

Nina - this sounds so cool! I'm impressed and inspired....

Have I mentioned lately that this effort of finding, making, seeing postcards has turned into quite an adventure? What a wonderful hobby this is turning into.... :)

little man 08-02-2011 11:51 AM

so, i've been playing around with ATCs. (you can see my attempts in my gallery here)

while poking around the net looking for some different design templates, i ran across this little tidbit. thought folks might be interested. or not. :)

Diva 08-02-2011 12:23 PM

I received 2 lovely postcards from Tommi! Thanks so much! Into the BOOK they go............

Welcome, Jelli!

PinkieLee 08-02-2011 12:30 PM

And the postcards still keep coming :)

Yesterday, I got cards from Wil, Tommi & Diva (yes Licious, NM flag does look like mustard ;) ) THANK YOU all again for the smiles in the mail!

I don't know about y'all... but I am having the hardest time trying to find postcards where I live. I have looked at Hallmark stores, Cracker Barrel and the local truck stop... and nada! I think I'm gonna resort to printing out pics (thanks Wil for the suggestion) and make my own! Sorry that some of y'all haven't received postcards from me yet... but I PROMISE I will get some sent out.

have a look at the chain bookstores...i've found some rockin' cards at barnes & noble. you might also google postcards in your area. somebody has to sell them...gas stations and convenience stores near the highway?

I can understand that....sometimes, it's hard to find ready~made postcards! But if You Google "Beaumont, TX" and click on "Images", there are TONS of pics....and maybe You could get some postcard stock from Michael's/Hobby Lobby, print out some of those pics, getchur glue stick and slap some~a those pics on some~a those cards and VOILA!!!!!!!

And it's TRUE about the mustard card! Mustard has no personality...lol Now, they could have made it the color of SALSA and we'd have us a flag! ;)

Tcountry 08-02-2011 12:35 PM

Bahama Bunny is on centered on my dashboard.

It is outstanding, and she gets lots of comments and attention on my travels ;)
Thank you sooo sooo much.

I have received bunches of postcards and plastered a decorative bamboo room divider with them. Thank you to those who take the time, cards and stamps to do this. I started to make address labels so I can mail while on the road traveling.
It is so nice to get fun stuff in the mail.

Fancy 08-02-2011 03:47 PM

Today brought in Tommi's cards and yesterday Diva's.

Katie has now gotten almost a daily string of bday wishes. Thank you Wil, Tonya, Tommi (and any I may have accidentally missed)...this was a fun and unique treat!

jelli 08-04-2011 10:35 AM

Couldn't of happened on a better day...

Guess what!?!?! ***clapping my hands***

I stopped by the mail and I got my Very FIRST POST CARD(from Austin)!!! It couldn't have come on a better day.

I took it home and sat in the chair like I just discovered a treasure. It's an exquisite card that reads so much contrast, beauty, shame, sexual, compromise, and yet compliments all in one. this shouted butch/femme dynamic to me. Oh, what was the picture... an ax and a peach.

I woke this morning feeling blah. The stress has been getting to me and this really put a smile on my face.

TYTYTY! littleman?

Now when I get my list I have my SC cards ready to start sending!!!

psst...it was a sledge hammer. :) but, i won't split hairs. ha! i'm glad you liked it and that finally, someone gets the contrast part of that pic. i also like the play of the colors of the peach, mirrored in the residual paints on the sledgehammer. but, that's me.

it feels really good that people are so tickled getting their postcards. i'm almost as excited for everyone who gets one in their mailbox as i am to get my very own.

btw...tommi, thanks for the winter wonderland. a definite feast for the eyes in this dry ass texas heat.

lis & jess...really like the one from columbus. it's a cool town. who knew any place in ohio would be the midwestern mecca for queers? thank you!

jelli 08-04-2011 02:27 PM

little man hit the nail on the head with this one!

You can split hairs, some times it gives a new meaning as in extra. Yes, the colors were incredible. Truly I felt I better stop typing earlier because i felt as if I sounded like a babbling little girl over a new box of crayons(yes, I still love to color). Needless to say, this postcard earned itself a frame. I thank you once more.

Corkey 08-04-2011 05:15 PM

We got a Diva and 1Playful yesterday!

jelli 08-04-2011 05:19 PM

I know it's a little late to be asking this now, but please tell me nobody has had an unfortunate experience of someone mailing inappropriate things or showing up on doorsteps?!?!

justkim 08-04-2011 05:25 PM

Question...
What do I need to do to make my photographs into postcards?
Anyone?
Bueller?
Thanks in advance...
I think I have thread stalked just about everyone here to kinda get a feel for them...
I am slowly but surely gathering postcards...

Phew! I was a bit concerned with ya'll being just a hop, skip, and a jump away. :fastdraq:

WolfyOne 08-04-2011 08:05 PM

I've been so tired from work for the past week or so, I haven't done any addressing on my cards
I was hoping to have them done and in the mail tomorrow, but I don't see that happening
So, ya'll will have to have a little patience with me
I have however found long naps to be quite therapeutic lately
