Cold and snowing here. Expecting 6 inches- so not too bad. But the next few days are hovering around -12 to -1 degree high and lows. Bundling up to say the least. My poor dog is miserable when he needs to go out but he sure is making fast business of his business.

Lyte 01-04-2018 11:14 AM

I'm back in shorts people! It's a balmy 38 degrees!!

Not!

Gayandgray 01-04-2018 12:28 PM

I shoveled enough snow to clear a path out back for my dogs to go out. Well about an hour after that, it looked like I had never even shoveled! Still steady snowing and the wind blowing snow EVERYWHERE. The Blizzard of 2018 is outside my door as we speak, and thank the Goddess I only work weekends at my job! So for the first time in a long time, I get to be snowed in with my spouse and our dogs and just sip hot cocoa and relax. :tea:

It's official, I've become a bit of a wimp regarding cold weather! 3 degrees C here this morning, with a 16kph wind, and despite being pretty well wrapped up, I felt cold, rather than pleasantly cool.

Sigh. Ah well, it's still better than getting overheated! :-}

Gemme 01-06-2018 06:12 AM

-13 this morning. -21 tomorrow morning. Frostbite setting in within 30 minutes aaaaand I have a ton to do outside today. Looks like it's going to be 15 in and 15 out, rinse, lather and repeat.

girl_dee 01-06-2018 06:28 AM

15F in South Carolina. i’m hibernating

Clyde 01-06-2018 06:41 AM

One more day of "Polar Whoretex" then it looks like 20's 30's and 40's (!) for the next 10 days! BTW, I play this "game" with myself where I take screenshots of the lowest temp of the season, and replace it when it goes lower. The rule is that the sun must have risen in order for it to qualify. Last year, was 9 degrees lowest. This year so far, -1. Right now it's -2 so I'm gonna hang out to see if it holds for another few minutes till official sunrise. SO EXCITING.

i grew up on the connecticut side of long island sound, spent many hours at the beach, and i have never seen a phenomenon like the "bomb cyclone"

stay safe and warm!

p.s. i was always taught salt water cannot freeze...apparently it can! (at 28.4F)

JDeere 01-06-2018 09:24 AM

48 degrees with sun in nw houston.

*Anya* 01-06-2018 11:46 AM

I can't believe the horrible snow and blizzard conditions all of you are experiencing.

Stay warm and safe.

Our weather in California is comfortable, I will leave it at that but will say that according to CALFIRE, the Thomas fire is still going, albeit, almost out.

Thomas Fire Incident Information:
Last Updated: January 03, 2018 9:03 am
Date/Time Started: December 04, 2017 6:28 pm
Administrative Unit: US Forest Service - Los Padres National Forest
County: Santa Barbara County, Ventura County
Location: Hwy 150 and Hwy 126, north of Santa Paula
Acres Burned - 281,893 acres - 92% contained

We still have no rain in sight in So. CA.

Kobi 01-07-2018 06:26 AM

It is 7 degrees with a wind chill of minus 6. It says here there will be am clouds and pm sun.

Sooooo, I'm guessing the snow that is currently falling must be a figment of my imagination. I am not shoveling so my imagination better knock it off.

You're teasin'.
After the power was out for 7 plus hours this morning and the inside temp kept dropping (one bedroom down to 42°) it's taken all day to get the livingroom back up to 59°. That's toasty compared to what it was at 9am when everything came back on and stayed on.

VintageFemme 01-07-2018 05:40 PM

59 and raining in north Texas.

JDeere 01-07-2018 05:52 PM

68 right now with clouds. Its supposed to rain later this evening.

That makes for a very long night. I'm glad your power is back on and the house is warming up.

girl_dee 01-07-2018 06:59 PM

we are expecting some precipitation and very low temps tonight, roads will be an icy mess, schools closed here in northern South Carolina

Stay safe and cozy!!

*Anya* 01-09-2018 07:21 AM

Now, we have rain.

Pouring rain.

Mandatory evacuations in the Thomas fire area because of mudslides.

Creeks overflowing their banks.

Mud on freeways, multiple accidents, overturned big rigs.

:praying:

cathexis 01-09-2018 12:28 PM

We are starting to thaw a bit. Kitties no longer refusing to visit their patio.
Wearing hoodie today, but want:snowysmiley::snowballfight: more snow...big flakes.

FireSignFemme 01-09-2018 01:51 PM

39 degrees and cloudy here in Eastern Washington.

BullDog 01-09-2018 01:59 PM

76 degrees and sunny in SE New Mexico! :D

Blade 01-09-2018 07:09 PM

Sunny and 65 degrees today
That's a far cry from frozen pipes Friday and power out for 7 hrs Sunday morning when it was 10 degrees

*Anya* 01-11-2018 08:50 AM

17 people killed in the mudslides, 17 still unaccounted for. 100 homes destroyed. 1500 homes still threatened.

500 search and rescue first responders out today with 10 search dogs.

The news just said that they are now calling it search and recovery instead of rescue.

In a usual bizarre twist here in Southern California, it is clear today with a high of 75. By next Wednesday (according to ABC News), it will be up to 81.

We have fires, then rain, then mudslides, then no rain and the cycle starts again.

This morning it was 57 with bright sunshine and no wind. Was actually able to sit at the beach today dressed only in shorts and a light jacket. For weeks, as far as the eye could see, the ocean was a sheet of ice. Today you could actually see water in the distance.

However, that deteriorated into heavy rain and winds this afternoon. The flood advisory was discontinued but wind warnings are back.

Rain will continue but temps will hold until late tomorrow when they drop steadily down to the 20's and 30's.

Thinking tomorrow nights Patriots game is going to be a frozen mud fest.

Clyde 01-12-2018 02:47 PM

The calm before the storm... it's 45ish and drizzly. We are expecting a wallop of 9" - 17" of snow, which I think means they don't really know.

QueenofSmirks 01-12-2018 03:19 PM

Amazing - 73 degrees. I love Phoenix!

girl_dee 01-12-2018 03:33 PM

South Carolina - 55 degrees and on second full day or rain and fog...

Ha, was 54 deg here in northeast Ohio this morning. Just finished snow blowing and shoveling 4 inches. Currently 22 deg.

Bring it Mother Nature.

Gemme 01-12-2018 07:55 PM

Flood warning in full effect here. We're on our 2nd or 3rd inch of rain on top of about 16 inches of snow. We're probably going to get about another inch of rain before it's done.

Luckily, I bought DC a two person camping raft so if We need it, it's there.

candy_coated_bitch 01-13-2018 12:29 AM

It was about 60 degrees here today and and raining and flooding out all the snow. Hope it doesn't all freeze over tonight though. I had my window open listening to the rain for a while, it was nice.

Gemme 01-13-2018 09:26 AM

It's around 50 now but will plunge to 15 in a flash freeze. We're also expecting up to 9 inches of snow this Thursday and then another 5 or so a few days after that. I knew we were in for a steady winter since the last one was so mild.

Phooey.
