I miss zeppoli. You make them differently in Jersey. Here they are a hallow pastry shell (fried or baked) filled with rum flavored yellow cream, topped with powdered sugar and a cherry.

Of course I say here meaning Rhode Island where I was born and raised. Here on Cape Cod, where I have lived for 30 plus years, there are no Italian bakeries. As a matter of fact, I think I might be the only Italian in a 50 mile radius. :| And here, they think zeppoli(e) is fried bread dough - back home we call those doughboys.

I miss my people and their traditions.

JrzyButch 03-19-2013 02:44 PM

exactly...I forgot to mention they are made hollow stuffed with ricotta and vanilla inside..every place is different what they call it...my grandmother used to make fried dough..she call it Scrupelles...that's the Abruzzi saying for it....

Here's a bit of what I do when I'm not posting. Have been working on Grace, took it easy today and played with my broken ceramic collection. Us artsy types call it mosaic. This is my second project using mosaic. Not bad huh?

Ya, lookin' for attention again today... :koolaid:

Any one out there do mosaic also? Any tips you have will be gratefully acknowledged.

How's everyone doin'?? Sure quiet in here.

See ya for coffee in the mornin', :tea:

Hey all you Fabulous Lofters!

Yes, it's been a while, had some health issues that really made it hard to be in here on a regular basis. It's nice to have coffee, read the posts and catch up on others who are Older and Wiser. (We like to think wiser, that's my story and I'm sticking to it).

Jrzy, those ricotta cakes and Italian special pastries for St. Joseph's day sound deelish. One thing we don't have is any good Italian pastries here. Can't get a decent canoli here to save my life.

Well, just putting a toe in the water, nice to see you all here, many I remember, new faces. And I see some of you are happily couple up now too. Good deal.

Ta Ta for now, see you soon. Blessings to all.

lusciouskiwi 03-22-2013 05:04 AM

Gidday lofters. :D Your Friday morning, my Friday evening. Have anything exciting planned for the weekend?

I'm supposed to be making apple crumble. Yummmmm. Haven't made it in years so had better get cracking!

Galahad 03-22-2013 10:49 AM

I love your project and plans photos Sweet Bliss. Keep them coming.
No more Tarotscopes here and I forget to log in and say hi, sorry. Hello to everyone.
I'm waiting on company and their plans this week. They are from PNW and are really enjoying the warm weather here although I am dreading the increasing heat. We have already had 95 degrees a few days last week. Spring just arrived and summer is shoving her out of the way. Have a safe and Cool week Lofters.

Sweet Bliss 03-22-2013 11:41 AM

(f)Morning Lofters!!! Thank you Galahad for the kind response.

Please note I have no idea how to do Flickr yet, surprise surprise, lol, but I did upload more pics. I even arranged them a little!

I think keeping track is helping me see where I have issues finishing things. Or overloading myself with projects.

I need to stop creating projects for a while until I catch up... ya think?? lol

Okay, time to see what I can get into next.

Later Gators!! (f)

Do I remember St.Joseph days,my grannie would cook for a week before the day came as well as so many others in our Italian community...so much food, way more than any ohther day. When grannie passed my cousin Josephine took over putting them on,now that she has passed on recently at 100yrs old I have no idea who will do it now.My fave was the hay stacks, then mom would bake italian cookies then I would put the diffreant color iceing on them wich are fantasstic with a good cup of coffee.Oh,and welcome to the list and bringing good memories to mind.

lusciouskiwi 03-23-2013 04:19 AM

The apple crumble wasn't bad. I just drowned it in plain yoghurt (a bit of sour to go with the sugar) and chocolate ice cream. Nom nom nom.

Sweet Bliss 03-23-2013 07:35 AM

:rrose: Good morning Lofters!!

I will start coffee as soon as I can get away from the computer screen!!

A fresh new day!!!

Good morning all!!
It's another glorious day in the neighborhood, with birds chirping and calling out love songs
and the ever faithful Hawk keeping the population of pigeons at a dull roar.

So what's on your calendar this week?

My weekend was full of auctions, breakfast courtesy of Waffle House staff visiting a good friend to put her back in order, and of course a trip to Lowe's to get wood restorer. Pretty exciting huh??

Welcome to Latino Heart !!!

May you all receive blessings and joy as you begin your fresh new day :rrose:

Sweet Bliss 03-25-2013 06:01 PM

Wow, Sweet Bliss, I could have written the same thing. All of my favorite things... Auctions, Waffle House and Lowe's! I am so glad to see another that enjoys the same things! Sounds like a grand weekend.

Well, it has been awhile since I have popped in, I have been very busy renovating my kitchen, I have made a huge mess and am so wanting to get it done! I go to work and come home and work and then go to bed exhausted.

lusciouskiwi, 50 was awhile ago for me.....I don't remember;)

Morningstar, stay safe out there and let me know when you are heading my way again!

Where are the Photos of your kitchen redo???? I wanna see whatcha got so far.... google "boho kitchen", that's what I stare at when I want inspiration, or "boho home", I sit and dream and drool over the fabulous designs and colors. And I also love to drool over the vintage retro look, someone posted a pic of a white "farm sink", I about fainted with joy, it looks just like the one my grandparents had in their kitchen years ago.... didn't know you could get a new one!!

I like the open shelf style in some of those kitchens. It allows a more decorative approach, showcasing antique or collector pieces, or just family heirlooms. And allows more room for your eyes to roam and relax. Feels less formal, relaxed more than boxed up in cabinets. Geez, I could talk about this stuff all day.... can you tell? lol :phonegab:

Okay, next topic, how's everyone doin'?

Got plans for all my goodies, so need to get moving on it before I run out of energy!! :wateringgarden:
