My gingertom who likes to bang the cellar door over and over and over again in an attempt to get it to magically open, usually at 3:12am. :|

My dog, on the rare occasion he needs an emergency middle-of-the-night walk. He only wakes me when it is an emergency so I am programmed to leap out of bed. But these rare emergency occasions seem to be mostly in the dead of winter, at 2am, when its -5F with the windchill and I'm stumbling out wearing pajama pants, snowboots and a parka - all sorts of discombobulated.

Random wildlife: skunks, raccoons, opossums and black bears all spend a bit of time in the back garden, all in search of free meal from the bird feeders or the bins, all trigger the motion light on the garage which faces my bedroom. (I wear an eyemask to sleep now).

Produce in the summer (we have amazing farm stands here)
Household supplies - cleaning, paper products etc. they're stupidly expensive
Special occasion desserts (there are too many awesome bakers and bakeries)

*It's a progressive bubble: politically, socially and educationally.

*It's very locavore oriented, restaurants and markets that carry/use locally produced foods are called "local heros". The food is divine: fresh and so tasty; and our farms continue to thrive.

*The five colleges bring a great deal of wealth to our area, with the wealth comes lots of boutique mom & pop shops, fantastic restaurants of every variety and a constant flow of intellectual and artistic happenings. We get a the benefits of urban life in small cities that feel like a "small towns".

My cat ed. When he was a kitten he loved to play in the middle of the night.
One night I heard him playing up stairs in the our sitting room (the bedrooms are downstairs.) He ended up taking the ball he was playing with all the way down the stairs to our bedroom! He dropped the ball on the bed and just looked at me. It was really funny!

My back always wakes me up at around four! Lovely!

And the need to use the loo wakes me up.

I outran a cop once, in the dark with no lights on going 100+ mph in the middle of nowhere. Not my smartest move but I guess I did avoid the ticket...

I went climbing in the Rockies and ended up crossing a ledge behind a waterfall with no equipment. It was beautiful, but again, not bright.

I have jumped from a few cliffs without knowing how deep the water was or what exactly was under it. ( But I did let someone else go first! )
