:) one day, one hour, one second at a time we can start anew I love new beginnings! |
Stepping in to say hello! :newbie:
I have made a lot of changes over the past year to both become healthier and to lose weight. Beginning my journey, I lost 80 pounds but then gained 40 back. I have lost 20 of that 40 and am still working on the final 20. I am in no rush and am taking it nice and slow...I've done the fast weight loss and it never lasts. I changed up my diet completely and am currently eating a vegetarian diet (that most days is completely vegan). I move my body in many ways and attempt to get at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. I've currently hit a plateau but I just keep on doing the things that I need to do. Eventually it will budge and more will come off. Here to support everyone else in their journey. |
I am making healthier choices as I eat. I do indulge in a left over wedding cookie after dinner, as a treat. I am swollen in my upper area by my rib cage. All stress. Between my daughter's wedding and opening the store, life has been very stressful.
Tomorrow is the 4th. No party. We had a wedding recently and our family is on burn out. It took everything out of us to get thru that wedding. Still licking our wounds. So no problem staying away from unhealthy foods. I have alot of customers that come in, from weight loss groups and after bariatric surgery. We have started discussing starting a generic gathering for those who in groups or after surgery, at my store. Just for addtl support. While I sell plus size clothes and chant self esteem credos to everyone who enters, my biggest chant is Healthy Choices...for mind sets and ways to eat and live... |

Welcome to the thread, dear friend. All here are supportive with all kinds of tips and tricks..... I just learned a new one on Sunday. I was watching Extreme Makeover - Weight Loss Edition when one of the commercials came on and it was the trainer. He was talking about drinking plenty of water..... But, did you know that cold water leaves your stomach quicker than warm water? Nor did I..... He said that if you wanted to rehydrate after exercise to drink cold water but f you wanted to curb cravings or to tide you over to the next meal, to drink warm (unrefrigerated water). I have taken it a step further and drink cold water with my meals so that hopefully it washes all the calories out! Good luck with your quest to ease your stress and make good healthy decisions....We are all rooting for y'all!! :cigar2: |
I can't stand cold drinks - always on the cold side so drinking something with ice in it? Will leave me with goosebumps the entire time I drink it. Sooooo tap water is great for me - but good to know it helps more with the food cravings as well!

Checking in after a long absence!
I wanted to check in and update you all on where I'm at in my process. I had gained back 9 pounds of the 50 I had lost and had kinda felt myself slipping back into "I don't give a shit-ville" after all of my hard work. I was starting to ignore the gym, quit posting here, and eating tons of crap without a regard for what it would do to my body. Most of my "stuff" was centered around not managing my time effectively and feeling really stressed out with work and family stuff. It was so much easier for me to ignore the call of my plan and do some of that famous "avoidance" that I have apparently become fond of in my adult years. Because, yanno, it's sometimes easier to avoid the process than actually do the work to get through it. So here I am, back after 5 months to say I have recommitted myself to getting healthy. I am back in the gym regularly, I have completely revamped my eating plan, I am getting more sleep. And I am happy to say that this morning when I got on the scales I was back down to 284, which was my lowest weight while on plan. My goal is to be down to 279 by the end of July. Don't get me wrong, it isn't about "The Numbers" but it definitely is a way for me to mark my progress. I appreciate this thread! |
Forgot to add:
I have been and will be doing all of my blogging about my progress over at my blogsite: http://www.tokenfatgirl.com Please feel free to link to me and add me on Twitter! |
I'm on a journey to reduce my Bmi by half. It was 50. Now my bmi is 45. It has helped a lot learning I was not cursed with fibromyalgia but was simply allergic to gluten. With better mobility I am kayaking !! and hiking. My current challenges are portion control and time management. Food is a sense security and entertainment and that also adds to the challenge. Glad this thread is here.

Hi healthies :)
I haven't been posting much either...my apologies. I'm plateaued again *sigh*....right after breaking the 200 lb. barrier my weight loss came to a screeching halt. My body is still changing though, and my clothes keep fitting looser and looser. My butt is smaller, my boobs are higher (TMI perhaps, but hey!), my arms are toned and I have less wobble in the triceps....I'm seeing some definition in my back and thighs and....oh what the hell...I'm rather happy that I'm getting cute little dimples over my butt. :cheesy: So, I think what's going on here is increasing muscle, decreasing fat and toning things up....without any net change in weight. That's okay....I can give it a little time. Also, I've relaxed my eating somewhat. Not abandoning it....just relaxing a little. What I'm trying to learn is portion control and how to eat like a "normal" person....one that can have something sweet here and there or something fried occasionally....without it blowing my healthy eating plan. My employer is piloting a new weight loss program and I may give it a try. The fun part was that I barely qualified to participate. The lowest acceptable BMI was 30, the "obese" barrier....and I'm down to 31. That's progress! |
I think I invented something kinda cool (sic), I froze a yogurt, a chobai greek kind. When I took it out it was a bit too frozen, so I zapped it for 30 sec. It was very very good, and as hot as it has been, it was refreshing too. The frozen yogurt in the store has a lot of additives so it does not freeze solid. This way it is additive free and yummy as well as good for you too! When I was a kid we used to freeze oranges, just toss the whole orange in the freezer, take it out, cut up, and they were good too.

Good morning all!
Doctor finally decided to treat me for thyroid, been taking the meds for a week now and have noticed my energy level is increasing. I most certainly am not so fricken tired that is for sure. He is also treating me for gout which is also a form of arthritis and the cause of my pain. While I let my body adjust to these medications I have gone back to eating healthier. Lots of chicken and salads, with some red meat thrown in for good measure. I will be making some of my turkey chili to freeze so I can just heat it up and go. The next couple of weeks are going to be crazy busy. The week before I leave to go back east I will be in training with my job. We don't have enough staff to NOT have to work after 8 to 9 hours of training so my days are going to be LONG so healthy food choices are going to be important. Good luck to everyone and keep up the great work! |
Just came back from getting a B12 shot... A total of 54 lbs have been lost.... 46 left to go to the goal..... I also start a new engagement where I will be west of Chicago from Sunday until Thursday night. I just also stopped at the gym and Al the Russian gave me a hard time but I let him know that I had been on the road and was going back. The Residence Inn I am staying at is providing me a full size kitchenette with full size fridge - I won't have to make difficult food decisions! I am starting to make lists of kitchen things I CANNOT live without! Hang in there all....keep on trucking! :cigar2: |
I went to the YMCA yesterday and before getting into the pool I weighed myself. I know this scale is pretty close to my Drs scale. And I discovered I had already dropped 5 lbs. I was so relieved! I havent done drastic changes, and I didnt make some changes I said I was going to, (I am still drinking diet coke. I cant give it up yet but have reduced it to one bottle or glass a day)but its working. I did give up whites. And sugars. Except for my one wedding cookie for dessert after dinner. Giving myself some leeway, I tend to stick to changes better.
As if i dont have enough on my plate with opening a store I have opted to help a friend train her new shetland pony to drive. I go out twice a week to work with the lil one and it is giving me exercise. That, ontop of the YM pool and all the movement at the store, i am getting stronger physically. The BIG thing I have noticed is I catch myself slumping, which I got into when I felt the weight of the world on my shoulder because of the wedding. Now when I catch myself slumping, I straighten up. I feel more solid inside, more support inside, and it shows in my body. Someone said they dont have fibromyalgia but are allergic to glutten? Really? Oh, a tooth is being pulled Monday. It cracked more yesterday and half of it literally fell out of my mouth. So I suspect that will help with some weight loss too. Not being able to chew is a great weight reducer...lol. This heat sucks! I force myself to go out on the days i am scheduled, to work that pony. its 86 degrees at 10PM here. Seriously? I am not in Az! |
Quote:
Ahhhhh but it is a DRY heat here in Arizona.... Except during monsoon season, which just started at the end of June and runs until about the middle of August.... I am a bit worried about the humidity and heat in Chicago... I leave in the morning, thinking about traveling in shorts which is sometimes a crap shoot if they lose my luggage...... If you're slumping, try a cold bottle of water - it helps to perk me right up! (what is that...diet coke?? Haven't had one in 5 months!) :cigar2: |
ahh, Jo my friend, I drinks tons of cold and lukewarm water! I have replaced the diet coke I am not drinking, with water. I need the hydration. My store doesnt have ac and it gets at least 100 degrees by the window display, which is where my desk is. If I didnt drink water, I would be in serious trouble!
I am SO proud of you for the changes you made in your lifestyle! You are doing so great! Dont you have some sweatshirts w hoods to send me? Hmmmm....??? I betcha they will be too large now but come fall and winter when i am out there working in the yard or with that pony, I wouldnt care what size they are...lol Quote:

Exercise ball
Quote:
I struggle with posture, because I have hidden my boobs since puberty. Im working on it now, and sitting on the ball helps. To be better balanced, the body tends to straighten itself. I NOTICE my slouch on the ball, and correct it faster. Its helping my abdominals a lot. JUST TO SIT! I got mine for 20 bucks at weight watchers, but I see used ones for 5 and 10 bucks on craigslist all the time. |
Weight remaining stable. No further loss since last hospital discharge but no gain either.
Got my fasting lab results back today from blood drawn about 2-weeks ago and for the first time in over 15 years, my cholesterol is normal, actually better than normal-it dropped a staggering 100 points. Triglycerides, HDL and LDL also excellent. I have been on Lipitor for 4-6 weeks but also feel cutting out high fat diet helped greatly, including remaining off of sweets- no pies, cakes, cookies or ice cream for almost a year now. A recent Graham cracker splurge has been the extent of my sweets. Good to see so many new folks posting in here these days and so many "old-timers" continuing the good fight to health! |
Hi, I'm really happy to find this thread. I have recently put on quite a bit of weight due to a medication I need to take. I believe I can do something about how much weight I put on, and possibly get to a healthier weight, through healthy eating; at the very least, I can stay healthy at whatever weight I might carry. (I confess that because the weight seemed to increase even while eating healthy in the early days, I have slacked terribly in even trying; I was so discouraged.) Anyway, I'm really glad this thread exists, and while I might lurk for a while, I hope to participate as well in time.
|
I have been going to the gym for a fue days and can really tell it has helped me in feeling better, not to mention getting more energy.Unfortunatly my silver sneakers membership only uses monday, wendsday and friday for the days I can go.I am glad I have some work out equipment at home to use on the days I dont go to the fitness center,I figure I can use the machines they have to hit the places that need some extra work with the better machines.
Some of the stuff they have looks like torture wracks untill I figure ho to use them, yes I have ask some of the staff how to use the machines but I get the impression not every one is up on how things work. |
weighing in
I was just wondering what the habits of weighing are for everyone. I find that sometimes the scale is just my worst enemy. I can feel great weigh myself and if the number isn't good will set me up for binge eating. Or just a day of not liking myself.. what is your experience??
|
Quote:
I do have several friends who just can't tolerate getting on the scale more than maybe once a week. Seeing the fluctuations due to sodium or other factors just throws them into a tailspin that is unnecessary and harmful to their weight loss endeavor - like you experience. |
Quote:
i would weigh myself 100 times a day if i could, you have to know that so many things can make that number go up and down and that for ME the way to truly measure if i am doing well is based on how i feel and how my clothes feel on me. The numbers usually catch up. i like that if it's up it's a reminder to behave and that it can come on quicky... But like Tawse i like watching it go up and down. |
I'm an every day weigher also....it helps keep me on track. I don't worry about a pound or two one way or another, but it makes me feel like I have an "early warning system" this way if I start to get too free and easy with my eating or skipping too much exercise.
|
I just weigh in every morning. It works for me. I am still not at my goal weight which is prolly not realistic for middle aged. Bah.....
|
I weigh about twice a week,if I weighed more than that it would drive me nuts cause the numbers arent falling fast enough.I know my body has changes as I work out and then am loseing inches from building mussels from loseing fat.

Hi healthies :)
Well, I've taken the plunge and signed up for the pilot weight loss program at work. It's one we'll be out marketing later on, and we're piloting it with colleagues now. It includes some pretty nifty trackers, weekly (!) coach calls for the first 3 months, and is a 2 year commitment. Based on my current weight, activity level, etc. they want me to eat 1500 calories a day. I know this is a good level for me to lose at, and will nudge me off this plateau. It also means that it's time to get back on the weight loss wagon for me and stop being quite so lax with my eating patterns. Wish me luck... :rrose: |
Pre workout supplements in...
Headed to the gym in a bit. Today is leg day...... Oh how I Love/Hate leg day! |
Good for you, JustJo! Go get 'em, Cowboi! I just negotiated here with the hotel that I can leave my food and kitchen utensils here over the weekend when I fly back to Arizona and check on the furbabies. So far (just 4 days) I have been able to stay on the diet and not be tempted to go astray..... the fitness room in the hotel is not too terrible and I have bonded with some of the hotel guests who are staying here long term..... I just keep on trucking day by day and hope to lose what I need to lose...... Y'all keep on trucking! Also, since I am being medically supervised, I weigh in at home every morning and then once a month when I am checked at the clinic. :cigar2: |
I just stepped on my scale. I weigh more than I ever have in my life. I am going to start walking more than I do and quicker than I do. I already walk quite a bit, as most New Yorkers do, but I need to deliberately add more steps and make them brisker. That's a start, anyway. Also, I need to really get serious about increasing vegetables and fruits, and decreasing take-out/delivery foods. I guess writing this here feels like a commitment to be healthier. As for the weight, well: I would like it to go down, but more important to me is that I be fit.
Oh, yeah: I need to quit smoking. That's the hardest thing in the world for me. I suspect that once I get serious about moving and walking more, it will be less difficult because I'll want and need my breathing to be better!:yeahthat: |

Once per day, sans clothing, before any food or coffee. The truth was there, right in my face. I have found that not weighing every morning contributes to denial for me. I am sure the use of past tense is noted. My medical issues are pretty much resolved now and I will be back at work today; so it is time to "get back on the horse" as the old saying goes and start weighing on a daily basis again. :) |

what supplements do you take regularly Cowboi? Anyone else take supplements or are dedicated to certain weight loss or workout pills, shakes or foods? Anyone that does this or has in the past, what is your experience and what works, doesn't? What amount of proteins, carbs should be taken before and after a workout? Does anyone do a certain amount of grams per day and find that it is working for them? Does it depend if you will be doing cardio or lifting for the day? Most importantly if one wants to lose weight first then gain muscle what is recommended as far as supplements, foods, workouts? I know everyone is on a different level and different sizes and different things work and not everyone takes supplements or pills. I'm looking for what is a constant in one's life and seems to be working for you? Thanks! |
Carbs, carbs, carbs <--- avoid them whenever possible, eat as little as you possibly can. NO sugar, NO pasta made from processed flour, NO white breads, etc etc
It's important to have carbs in your diet, but there should be a good balance between the intake amount of protein and carbs (in other words, if you intake 10 grams of protein, you should also be ingesting about the same amount, if not a bit less of carbs.) I have found the most awesome tasting protein shake EVER: http://shapeyourweigh.typepad.com/.a...2883970b-320wi GNC puts it out and it's amazing. I usually avoid these things because I am lactose intolerant (even if I attempt to drink lactaid or anything similar) - and these have not upset me at all. It has a decent amount of fiber in it and makes you feel full. It is loaded with protein and is low carb and sugar. Because I have weird eating habits, this is usually what I have for breakfast or in between meals. Before working out in the mornings, I eat one of these: http://pics.drugstore.com/prodimg/163997/300.jpg Gives just the right amount of carbs to fuel a workout and because it is specially formulated, it won't whack out your blood sugar, which contributes to cravings. Excellent for diabetics. I also use these as night time snacks instead of eating crap snacks. |
Been holding steady at the same weight for a month now. Gotta get back on the wagon. 12 more pounds and I get to a BIG milestone, for me.
Back to juicing! As soon as I can get to the grocery store, that is. |
OK, now I gotta ask... I have seen the term "juicing" several times now.... Can someone 'splain it to me..... :glasses: |
Quote:
~Wikipedia My favorite breakfast recipe: 2 oranges (peeled) 2 carrots 1 lemon (leave peel on if you love lemon like i do) 5 strawberries 1/2 inch of ginger and throw in some spinach if ya want - doesn't change the taste fun juicing vid: |
Not for me......
I think I'll pass on the juicing..... I went to get my B12 shot this afternoon and weighed in on a whim...... I lost three pounds last week EVEN with having been on the road! Also, I asked to look at the pictures they took of me when I started the program..... I now understand why people who haven't seen me in several months seem to be so amazed. I was amazed at the changes. *grinning* Today, I am my own inspiration!! Keep on trucking y'all ......look at where you started and where you are now. Rejoice in your accomplishments...and then make tomorrow a better day than today! :cigar2: |

that rocks!! |
Hi Healthies.. It feels like it's been forever and a day since i've been in here. Getting myself back on track.. Few things to say! 1 - i ran my first 5k on Wednesday night! i was SO proud of myself.. Wasn't an event, but a practice.. With the Running room.. Being amongst a running community was so wonderful.. Really, really beaming happy with my progress, dedication and growing knowledge.. Can't wait to do my first event now, feeling so ready! Doing a small event this coming Wednesday with a friend, again with the Running Room.. Just a 20 min event but knowing us, we'll take it further. 2 - Got weighed in on Thursday. Lost another 5 lbs and that brings me to 108 lbs lost now.. So happy to be back on track, it was certainly a very rough & bumpy ride for me for awhile.. But one thing is certain, i'm stronger than ever and very, very capable of picking my own self up, brushing myself off and trying again.. And i did that repetitively until i knew i was getting it right again...So now i weigh 207 lbs (started at 315) and went from a size 26 pants to now a size 16.. In fact, my scrub pants for work, i can fit into a size Large.. i was in a 3x & seriously can't remember the last time i was in a large. 3 - Started on my toning program very seriously.. my Boss at work will be helping me one on one, along with the circuits Candace helped me with, i should be toning my arms and tummy especially in no time.. 4 - Lastly, and this one is big.. i am feeling so 'fit'.. not just physically, but also mentally, emotionally and spiritually.. Last week, i hit a rock bottom in my recovery, and i think it was necessary honestly to get me to where i am here today, right now.. my calm, peace and gentle self is something worth all the gratitude i have within me.. i have much to work through still, but the difference in how i feel, and how i am pushing myself forward and doing the work, feels like gold right now. Been reading through everyone's progress.. i'm so proud of you all, and so, SO thankful to be journey'ing alongside each of you.. Much love to you all! |
Hi healthies :)
We had our usual 3 mile walk on the beach this morning, but switched it up with 2 short jogging sessions....I'm blaming Sylvie :cheesy: It felt surprisingly easy....but I'm feeling it this evening. Definitely need to do it again. I'm under doctor's orders of "no running", but the exception to the rule (lucky for me) is that barefoot in sand is okay. My "big news" is that I'm finally going to have to relent and buy some clothes. I can now take off all of my shorts and capris without undoing the buttons and zippers....and things are looking downright baggy. This will involve spending some time in the dressing room figuring out what size I wear these days! |
Hey everyone,
Well I figure its about time I get my butt in here, I need my friends to help to motivate me again. I went to the doctor's this morning and found that in 2-3 months I've gained back 15 lbs  I went from 330 to 345; I'm not happy about it but I know what I have to do and that's not only get my ass back to the gym but also I asked my doctor if she could refer me to a dietician who specializes in helping people with diabetes. I need to start getting a grip on the food I eat and get back into working out, walking when its not work out day and also starting to eliminate sugar in my daily life. I'll be coming in here more often, leaning on my friends here and looking for inspiration from others (including Jo, JustJo and Sylvie), plus I plan on logging back into Spark People so I can use their expertise ~ all in all I am determined to lose those stupid 15 lbs I gained plus more :) |
