U.S. gymnast Laurie Hernandez throws the first pitch for a Mets game. How awesome!

https://www.yahoo.com/style/see-laur...142905463.html

Laurie Hernandez pitched for the the New York Mets, but she didn’t throw just any old boring pitch. She’s a gold medal-winning Olympic gymnast, after all.

So she threw the pitch the only way she knew how — like a badass gymnast.

Hernandez performed an aerial cartwheel before pitching the first ball. Because of course she did.

It was perfection.

Alcohol-fueled Amish party, 73 arrested.

http://www.dispatch.com/content/stor...ty-raided.html

Authorities in the heart of Ohio’s Amish country say they arrested more than 70 people in a raid at a weekend party in a field that was expected to attract hundreds of Amish youth.

More than 40 officers converged Saturday on the Hardy Township field west of Millersburg off of Rt. 39 after concerned parents notified the Holmes County sheriff’s office of a large party expected to attract over 1,000 Amish from Ohio and neighboring states.

Investigators say 73 people, including 35 juveniles, were taken into custody and charged with underage consumption of alcohol....

The Amish are a Christian sect whose members live a simple lifestyle and shun modern conveniences.

DNA surprise! Giraffes are four species not one.

http://anniekatzphotography.com/uplo...y_giraffes.jpg

The Giraffe Conservation Foundation asked scientists to carry out a genetic analysis of giraffes in Namibia, southwest Africa, merely to understand how similar, or not, different populations were to each other, and how that could help in conservation efforts.

But the scientists uncovered something unexpected.

Though modern giraffes had long been recognized as a single species, Giraffa camelopardalis, divided into a few subspecies, the researchers found four distinct species.

Meet the first open lesbian candidate in the Miss America contest! Ms. Erin O' Flaherty

In June 2016, Erin O’Flaherty made history as the first openly gay Miss America contestant after being crowned Miss Missouri.

O’Flaherty is now preparing to take the stage on Sept. 11 to compete in the Miss America pageant against the other individual state winners.

O’Flaherty’s presence in the pageant is particularly meaningful to femme lesbians who are often invisible in the larger context of queer community, simply because they don’t look like mainstream America’s typical idea of a lesbian.

In this interview with The Huffington Post, O’Flaherty reflects on the public reception of her historic win, why she thinks it has taken this long for there to be an openly gay Miss America contestant and what she wants queer kids to take away from her platform.

*I know I will be watching proudly. Go Erin go!

The first thing we did when we arrived at our station this morning was lower our flag to half-staff to honor those that made the ultimate sacrifice on this day, fifteen years ago. A somber reminder as a nation, and to those of us still choosing to run in when everyone else is running out.

Ostriches? Did someone say Ostriches? Don't hide your head in the sand, here is everything you want to know about our largest bird friend.

What do ostriches eat?

Ostriches are omnivores, which means they eat both vegetation and meat. Although they prefer plants — especially roots, seeds and leaves — they also eat locusts, lizards, snakes and rodents, according to the San Diego Zoo. They also eat sand and pebbles, to help grind up their food inside their gizzard, which is a small pouch where food is crushed and ripped up before it reaches the stomach.

Ostriches don't need to drink water; they get all the water they need from the plants they eat. However, they do drink if they come across a watering hole.

Mating habits

Male ostriches are called cocks or roosters, and females are called hens. A group of ostriches is called a flock. Flocks can consist of up to 100 birds, though most have 10 members, according to the San Diego Zoo. The group has a dominant male and a dominant female and several other females. Lone males come and go during mating season.

To get a female's attention, males bow and flap their wings outward to display their plumage. When they are ready to mate, the male's beak and shins will turn bright red. Sometimes, his neck will change to a red color to match. Females also change color when they are ready to mate. Their feathers will turn a silvery color, according to the American Ostrich Association.

*(last time I flapped my wings to get a femme's attention, she was none too pleased)

All aboard the most ridiculous, most stupidly huge cruise ship on earth.

A CRUISE SHIP is an all-in-one holiday destination, where several thousand tourists pile aboard to eat, drink and get sunburned for a week. Harmony of the Seas is the latest and largest addition, where you can lunch at a parkside cafe and jump on a zip line directly afterward.

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2015/...9903414244.jpg

At 1,188 feet long and 226,000 tons, the Royal Carribean ocean liner is only slightly larger than its predecessor, Oasis of the Seas. Guests and staff equal around 8,000 people, and tickets range from $1,000 to $7,000. The entire experience is guaranteed to whisk you away on what amounts to a floating Mall of America. “It gives you the sense of traveling without doing it,” says photographer Alberto Bernasconi.

http://blog.primejourneys.com/wp-con...5/02/Oasis.png

When Bernasconi heard about the ocean liner, he had to see the gluttony and grandeur firsthand. He set sail on a four-day trip from Barcelona in July, just three months after Harmony’s maiden voyage. Even in the world of luxury cruises, the amenities were staggering. The ship boasts a 3-D movie theater, a casino, and “The Ultimate Abyss” slide with a 10-story drop. For the fitness obsessed, there’s a rock-climbing wall, a sports court, and a 0.33-mile running track.1 For the culturally inclined, you can see a production of Grease in the theater or a Victorian melodrama … performed on an ice rink.

And then, there’s the food. The ship is outfitted with 13 restaurants plus a robot bar. One eatery offered sustainable, “farm-to-ship” dining while another went a bit celestial with a themed menu of “sun, sea, ice, earth, fire and dreams.” Several Americans on board wanted to eat hot dogs on the 4th of July, but Harmony had that covered too with The Boardwalk Hot Dog House.

There was also the glorious Mediterranean Sea, but no one seemed to pay much attention to it. Each afternoon, Harmony docked so vacationers could wander around the many international ports like Marseilles, France and Naples, Italy for a couple of hours. But the boat was the true attraction.

*This, is not my cup of tea. I want to feel the breeze, feel movement the inertia. Why don't these people just go to Disney World? They are not enjoying the Mediterranean, Marseilles, Naples. Viking Cruise travel seems so much better than this.

'Smart' vibrator company sued for tracking users habits.

https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....1zKGG3pBVL.jpg

We-Vibe's makers sued after customer finds out they know all about her orgasms (and also her email address).

A woman is suing her dildo manufacturer for knowing too much about when and how she uses it.

A few weeks ago, two researchers told the Defcon hacking convention audience that We-Vibe “smart” sex toys send a lot of data about their users back to the company that makes them. According to Courthouse News, one We-Viber took this news hard. A woman known only as “N.P.” filed a class action civil suit in a federal court in Illinois against Standard Innovation, which makes the We Vibe line of sex toys and corresponding app.

http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnvar/20140916/146601

The smartphone app lets users “customize” their We-Vibe experience, unlock app-only “bonus” vibration modes such as the “cha-cha-cha” and the “crest,” and “create unlimited custom playlists,” according to the product’s website. In the suit, N.P. says she bought a We-Vibe in May and used it “several times” until she realized that it was sending data about her usage practices back to Standard Innovation’s servers, including when she used it, which vibration settings she used, and her email address.

The two researchers, known only as “followr” and “g0ldfisk,” said they discovered the amount of data the app transmitted back to Standard Innovation when looking for security flaws (not an unheard of possibility when it comes to internet-enabled sex toys). After the presentation, a spokesperson for the company told CNET it would “clarify” its terms and conditions to make it more obvious that the app could transmit data, which was “mostly anonymized” was being used for “market research.” It would also add the ability to opt-out. The company also posted a “commitment to customer privacy and security” on its website.

*Oh my goodness. They really do have an app for everything.
