Dolphins may have a spoken language, new research suggests.
Well duh, silly humans. A conversation between dolphins may have been recorded by scientists for the first time, a Russian researcher claims. Two adult Black Sea bottlenose dolphins, named Yasha and Yana, didn't interrupt each other during an interaction taped by scientists and may have formed words and sentences with a series of pulses, Vyacheslav Ryabov says in a new paper. http://bestanimations.com/Animals/Ma...ted-gif-19.gif "The (pulse) exchanges reminds us of an exchange with sentences between two people," Ryabov told CNN. Joshua Smith, a research fellow at Murdoch University Cetacean Research Unit, says there will need to be more research before scientists can be sure whether dolphins are chatting. There are two different types of noises dolphins use for communication, whistles and clicks, also known as pulses. Using new recording techniques, Ryabov separated the individual "non coherent pulses" the two dolphins made and theorized each pulse was a word in the dolphins' language, while a collection of pulses is a sentence. https://media.giphy.com/media/ZhEdAJ6aqEjYc/giphy.gif "Dolphins are producing these packs of pulses without interrupting each other which let's us suggest that each of the dolphins listen to one another before it starts its own pack of pulses," he told CNN. "Humans must take the first step to establish relationships with the first intelligent inhabitants of the planet Earth by creating devices capable of overcoming the barriers that stand in the way of ... communications between dolphins and people," he said. http://www.gifbin.com/bin/042011/130...vs-dolphin.gif |
Tuskegee airmen denied flying commercially after WWll. These courageous and talented pilots turn to riding motorcycles for that adrenaline rush and formed groups that rode all over the country.
*Not one of our finest hours. To be a commercial pilot then held high prestige and made a very good living. So many talented black men being held back. Despite serving their country with distinction as pilots during World War II, the Tuskegee Airmen were denied the right to become commercial airline pilots for nearly 20 years after the end of the war. Ken Rapier is president of the Chicago DODO Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen Inc. He said the chapter is named after the dodo bird — a bird of the island of Mauritius that lost its ability to fly — because, just like the dodo, the Airmen lost the ability to fly. https://theclio.com/web/ul/7266.9079.jpg “After World War II, even though the Tuskegee Airmen were proven superior pilots, they were not given the ability to fly commercially,” Rapier said. “Airline pilots make good money. Certainly back in those days it was considered a glamour job.” David Harris, who was hired by American Airlines in 1964, became the first African-American commercial pilot. http://www.rantoulpress.com/news/peo...mercially.html https://theselvedgeyard.files.wordpr...ycle.jpg?w=700 |

Woman Breaks Worlds Speed Record by Riding a Bicycle 147 MPH!
https://media.giphy.com/media/d3FAct...ExEY/giphy.gif No, not Miss Piggy..... With reduced drag from a lead car and an insane gear ratio, you can really get going just by pedaling. http://brimages.bikeboardmedia.netdn...eed-record.jpg American cyclist Denise Mueller recently set a new woman's bicycle land speed record of 147 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. She rode just inches behind a modified Land Rover SRV that served as a pace car and used a tail fairing to shield Mueller from wind resistance while she made her run. As you might imagine, the bicycle itself was also heavily modified for the world record attempt. The elongated frame, vibration-dampening seatpost, suspension fork, and custom 17-inch motorcycle wheels with bald tires help to lower Mueller's center of gravity for added stability and keep the ride relatively smooth even as she pushes 150 mph. In these land speed runs, it is critical that the cyclist stay within the draft zone of the pace car. "Hitting a 140 mph wall of air will knock me off my bike," Mueller told Velo News. http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cult...cycle-147-mph/ Mueller was going 70mph faster than this guy. https://img-s3.onedio.com/id-5656683...151256a780.gif She was going 40 mph faster than this guy on a motorcycle. https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media...odhkc8qhph.gif Putting it into perspective, she was going really @#!% fast. |

When Two Black Holes Collide
"....tugging at the space around them." My goodness, how profound is that?! http://www.saxonscope.com/wp-content...m-optimize.gif Last September, a small chirp rattled a pair of L-shaped antennas for the first time. That’s the sound you hear when there’s a ripple in the fabric of space and time – a gravitational wave. The wave is caused by two black holes colliding, circling each other at half the speed of sound, tugging at the space and time around them. This December, scientists heard the chirp again, confirming Albert Einstein’s Theory of Relativity for the second time in recorded history. https://media4.popsugar-assets.com/f...ackholegif.gif David Reitze played a key role in the discovery. He’s the executive director of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO), which operates the antennas in Louisiana and Washington state that picked up the waves. “On a fundamental scale it changes the way we look at the universe,” he says. “So it’s a new kind of astronomy. And I think everybody can get excited about that.” http://www.texasstandard.org/stories...holes-collide/ |
