As many know i just returned home from spending the last 6 weeks with my brother Bob who lost his battle with cancer.. i just felt like writing about his last hour in his rest home/hospice. he swore he would make it to his birthday.
"just let go"
1135pm- a rhythmic moan accompanied each breath, masking the ticking or the clock. hearts heavy Bob's weary from exertion, the struggle between life and letting go continued.
"just let go"
At1150 the evening nurse,"Janet" bounded in, thinking we should have a party to celebrate Bobs momentarily birthday, She was determined to deliver at least an assortment of ice cream cups, if no cake. The collection tumbled onto the table near bro Mike as the piano playing of a Jim Beckmans "faith"cd rested.
As midnight neared bro Mike peeked at his cell then suddenly the guy down the hall broke the silence blowing in a harmonica as he entered the room. this guy was close to 90 yrs in his red flannal pj's he played happy birthday Bob. as "ray" the harmonica player left i glanced at the clock it was just past midnight.
mike said" happy 61st birthday Bob say hi to Mom"
we quitley sang happy birthday Bob
The transformation was begining. Bobs breathing whispered. No more moans. a few sighs of deep breaths. Bob was letting go of this life and entering a perfect one.
I sttod close to bro Mike with my arm around him. we were holding on for the letting go. we breathed with Bob. we stilled with each pause. then breathed again, until tenderly his breaths quieted and there were no more.
RIP 9/20/2010 12:35 a/m.

Incredibly powerful... and a peaceful passing...

Thank you for sharing... It brings back some of my experiences and makes me know (and I hope you as well) the universality of love and life and death.

Respectfully,
City

Ditto!!!

I was not able to respond before because it reminded me all too well of my mother's death 25 years ago this past Sunday. We were all there but I was the only one able to check her vital signs. As I was taking her pulse it stopped and I had to look up to the family and tell them.

My condolences to all of you who have ever lost a loved one!!!

Leigh 10-16-2010 05:50 PM

Cody, may your brother rest in peace

The story you told brought Me back to about three or four years ago, when My cousin Tia passed away from cancer ~ may you find comfort in your love for your brother

I drove out to the lake to see the balloon glow.....who knew it was actually a Halloween party for children from at least 13 counties. I normally have excellent parking karma, but not tonight.....at least not without 4 hills involved. I saw about 6 balloons inflated.....from afar........<sigh>

Don't judge or you'll go to hell

If you ever get the chance to re-read a Harlequin Romance, do so. And, don't forget to play the sappy loves songs softly in the background.

I already miss the gym today...

since I am committed to doing things right (read: safe for my body) I will console myself by thinking of the early morning, tomorrow, and how good it will feel...

I sure miss the old days of crazy heavy lifting...I know I miss the lifting...how it made me feel...and how much fun it was sharing the endorphin high when I got home...

still...it's good

Just got back from a fall type pumpking patch festival. LOL Lots of rides, the lil guys on bungees, petting zoo could smell it ten minutes before finding it, hay rides, corn maze, walking around following three little energetic kids for three hours. All three grandparents are pooped! But we had a blast watching them. Their parents are pretty wiped out too. I have a red neck sunburn. Got two huge pumpkins we picked ourselves from one sorry looking pumpkin patch. LOL

Something that bothers me so much is to have men state at me or even hit on me. It is even more obvious since I dropped weight and started my walking program. How stupid is it to holler or whistle out the window at a mature woman pushing a walker? They see big boobs blonde hair and think we should be flattered we received their icky wolf whistles and hooting noises! I loathe it!
