Memories..

Saw HD post about Ocean City, MD. The summer I was turning 17, was the first time my parents gave me any freedom whatsoever. A group of my HS GF's & I used to drive like bats out of hell as soon as we could get away each Friday to drive to the shore. We lived in Silver Spring and would make it there in just a couple of hours, driving 70+ miles an hour (bad, bad teens). In NJ & MD we called it the shore ( in CA they just call it going to the beach).

We used to pack all 6 of us in a room to keep it cheap. I remember the great big, long boardwalk, those fabulous, soft but a little crispy, French fries that we would drown in malt vinegar (the only fries I have ever done that with), the hours we would spend trying to outdo each other in how tan (now getting a couple of spots lasered because of that!) we would get, oh that was fun! I must go back sometime to see if those fries taste the same!

Sorry for this derailing of thread- just brought up some great beach memories!

Have a great Monday everyone!!

great memories Anya. My parents started out taking us on day trips to Ocean City, MD. My Mom would pack a cooler full of sandwiches and soda and we would play in the Ocean and eat lunch on the beach. Not long after that my parents started renting rooms on the boardwalk. I guess the 2-3 hour drive got to be a bit much for day trips. In 1976 (i was 10) i won a stuffed Uncle Sam that was almost as big as me. I think it was the ping pong balls in the jars game. On the way back to our room, my Dad had quite a few people asking to buy it. I know i must have had a huge smile as i lugged that thing down the boardwalk. Those were great times. Everytime we hit the Bay Bridge i would ask, "Are we there?". I guess seeing that large body of water meant we were "down the Ocean". :)

Great memories HD! I forgot about the sheer joy of making it to the Bay bridge!

The song that reminds me of those days whenever I hear it on the radio is "Hot fun in the Summertime" by Sly & the Family Stone! Love that song, going to put it on my IPhone this morning. It always makes me smile:)

Hugs Lofters:)

Good morning to all!

This is my second day of being 40!!!!!

My ? to you is this...

Do you start to look at your life? Evaluate where you are and where you want to be?

hmmm good question....I am not sure if its the age or just a certian time in all of our lives that we take stock of where we are and where we want to be and make changes to get there....I find in my walk of life I do this every few yrs. I feel like I need to look inside of me and what I present to others as who I am,to keep being true to me and growing as a member of society and as a human being.
I like having a goal to work towards as well...I always ask a potential asst mgr during thier interview these two questions.....what are your short term goals in life and your long term. If you have no answer it says alot to me.

Jelli do you find that you are reflecting on life right now? I am wondering if its not just that your baby went away to college :) that can be rough you know

I do a lot of self examination in general, but there's definitely been a change with my kids growing up and out. Bittersweet.

BTW I think many potential employers set people up with those questions. I say this because once upon a time I was a manager too. In the industry of companies that require asst. mgrs(especially fast food and convenience stores) it's not like they do much, if anything, to assist an employee in reaching any goals. Many of them are looking for a body to fill a space for as long and as effectively as possible. *shrugs*

hello

It has been a long time since i was in here..Welcome to the new people..

My checkbook is the boss in my house..We got in a little disagreement and i started to work to much overtime then it became manditory..Well then the sun came out and so did the lawn mower and the sunny day unfinished projects..Time got away from me..I have been wanting to get back in here and thought now was a good time..

My thoughts go out to all the people on the east coast..Looks like Irene isnt hitting as hard as was predicted..That is a good thing..Thinking about the east coast Planet people and the people that i dont know..Waiting for a sunny day to dry things up..

Gotta make a small comment..In the work place i was refered to "a body"..Did not like that at all..You want a body Go to the morgue..There you can get a body..To me that is a person that can not add to the task at hand that needs to be done..I always do my 110% when people around me dont..But i do also understand that sometimes you gotta put a person there just to fill the position wheather they know the job or not..Therefore "The Body" comes into play..Explained that to my boss then got another boss and had to explain it again..Finding out i am not the only one that feels that way..Just throwing that out there..

Wanted to pop in and throw a hello in and a small comment..Better get outside and get something done, like an unfinished project..

Wishing everyone a good day..

Ok,every one move over so I can pull up a chair. Hey,how is everyone? I see some new people in here! I wasn't getting notices from here so I didn't think things was still going on here. I've been sick and in need of a kidney. My kidneys are only working about 24% they have diped down as far as 14 % and at 10% they will not substane life. I need a trans plant. The funny part is every budy seems to think you have to be dead in order to be a doner, but you don't. Only has to have same blood typ I have. I don't know my typ yet. I have a lot of testing to be done,to see if my heart and lungs will take the surgery. Also,if I have a live doner, that might be a plus when,it comes to my health Ins to pay for it. If not then,I can't have the surgery. I have emailed Kidney foundasion and they tell me to email this othere place,I do and they tell me to email this place. I hate getting the run around when it comes to my life.
Any ways I'm glad this room is still open.I wanted to stop by and say hello and wish all well. blueeyes226_l

I just turned 41 a couple weeks ago and I find that I am now starting to re-evaluate and re-think some things with my life now. I feel like I'm in an "odd" place or something right now in my life. I don't know if its because I'm single or what, but I feel there is "something" missing. I don't feel whole right now.

Checkin-in

Hello everyone..

Think we gotta get this thing going again..I like it in here..!.

Blueeyes226..
That really sucks..!!!..I can only imagine what you are going through..It seems like you never get a break..I remember the trouble you mentioned with the family a while ago..Is anyone helping you over there..??..Thinking only good thoughts for you and i do hope things will fall in place and become easier for you..

Babyangeleyes..

Think i know what you mean when you said your not feeling whole and in the wrong place..I am single myself and more now than ever i am pulling myself away from my family..Feeling alot like i dont belong at the "Get-to-Gethers..Tired of hearing the "Gay Jokes" and watching everyone laugh..No one is alowed to say mexican jokes any more because my sister-in-law's sister is dating a mexican..Let the gay jokes fly it is ok..Real tired of it..I feel out of place and want to be where i fit in the most..Already made other plans for Thanksgiving..One can only be kicked in the face so many times then they gotta quit comming around..Even if you kick a dog so many times eventually the dog stops comming around..I feel like the dog lately..

Wishing everyone a good week..
