Sarah Vaughan ft The Bob James Trio - The Shadow Of Your Smile (Live from Sweden) 1967
This my favorite version of this song. It just does it for me.
Sarah Vaughan is magnificent and the Bob James Trio is just perfect. – Bob James (piano) – Herbie Mickman (bass) – Omar Clay (drums) |
Dancing in the Dark - Jorgen Dahl Moe - The Voice Norway
I had no idea the words to this Bruce Springsteen song were so poignant until I heard this version. I needed to hear this.

Work Song / Another protest song written by Cannonball's brother, Nat.
Kenny Rittenhouse Septet
___________________________ Nina Simone ___________________________ Cannonball Adderley Sextet in Switzerland 1963 - Work Song I probably first heard this song by Cannonball in the mid 70s and it didn't do anything at all for me. In fact, I thought it was on the boring side. Then in the late 80s I started listening to other bands that recorded this song and they were terrible. I'm talking about hard-core, bebop bands like MJQ and they just didn't get it. They sounded horrible. This song has a "snap" to it and a band has to be really tight (Duke Ellington tight) to get it right. The "snap" represents the bang as the prisoners work in a chain gang. Nat Adderley knew exactly what he was doing when he wrote the song, it took me almost 20 years after first hearing it for me to understand. That said, I'm a big fan of Cannonball and have never been a fan of Nat Adderley. Give me another 20 years and I'm sure I'll start sending shout-outs for Nat. |

Mariah covering an indispensably power song by Journey…
I don’t think Mariah really gave this song her all, like some other ballads she has done before. But I like her vocal control. ❤️. She’s got an amazing range. But… nothing can replace the original song by Journey. For sure. |
Beyoncé | Jolene (Dolly Parton cover)
