Chad, you make losing one's temper sound similar to losing one's tuke. Temper is emotion, and emotions must be controlled and dispensed sparingly.

Thanks for your post Gemme! :bunchflowers:

This is another favorite expression of mine and my grandmother used to say it ALLLLL the time.

It's getting harder to rank idioms by status as "favorites".

Thanks Kittygrrl for your post and the idiom of "if it looks too good to be true, beware."

There's a lot to be said about both your idiom and the idiom homoe posted.... both idioms present a particular truth, dependent on one's own experience with either idiom.

Kätzchen 07-07-2017 10:35 PM

To be like.....

.....A Fly On The Wall

meaning: That you want to secretly observe and hear something without anyone noticing you're there watching and hearing all that is said and done.

Mostly true, I would say.

Kätzchen 07-08-2017 12:18 AM

An not so.common idiom which illustrates an proverbial scientific notion that testing particular variables is one way to discover the effectiveness of any one thing.

Sometimes true, other times not so true.

Mostly true, but results could be misleading.

Mostly true, I would say.

Kätzchen 07-08-2017 12:26 AM

..... Worked Like A Charm.....

Meaning: something works well and produces the desired effect (s).

Mostly true.

Kätzchen 07-08-2017 12:39 AM

..... Cuts like a knife .....

While this literary device is not so much an idiom or even a double entendre, it's a simile that gives meaning to hurtful words or actions or even something as simple as very cold wind that cuts right through to the core of your body or heart.

Fairly true, I would say.

Kätzchen 07-08-2017 12:44 AM

..... Dream Come True .....

When this skin of thought is expressed, one is saying that some thing they've always dreamt about has come true or that something you have wanted very much has finally come to pass, thus your "dream has come true."

(True)

Kätzchen 07-08-2017 12:50 AM

...... Heart of Glass .....

Besides being a 'killer' disco song by Blondie, this turn of thought generally means that one is affected easily by emotion.

(True)

But, wait....don't YOU have some of those same 'correct way to do something' proclivities? I would have swore that I saw something along those lines in the 'Give me one' thread.

Isn't that a little like the pot calling the kettle black?

Did you see what I did there? Didja? Didja?
