I did 45 minutes on my favorite stair master.

Today was rather empty at the gym. I saw both Taylor and La La walking by in white towels (not together) but we barely spoke... rather a *haunting* experience.

cinnamongrrl 07-09-2019 08:39 PM

I just want to start with.....

I don't know how anyone can do more than five minutes on a stair master!!

I did five minutes as a warm up, then 30 on the treadmill with lots of incline. Then I did a circuit on the machines that the trainer told me to use lol Then I swam a few laps in the reallyyyyy warm pool to loosen up before I went home.

That was all yesterday btw

Sunday was Aqua Zumba per usual. Love that class. I think I want to suggest aqua yoga. Imagine how much easier some of that stuff would be in the water.

Today was just some typical toil. Worked in the morning for my agency and then did a cleaning job for 3 plus hours.

I also joined Weight Watchers and I'm actually excited about it. They have lots of incredible recipes. I've lost 14 pounds on my own and I hope this will just keep me on the right path.

easygoingfemme 07-11-2019 04:46 AM

I'm resigning to the fact that for the next little while I'm not going to be able to ride/work out after work. The heat all day at work is sucking everything out of me. So I'm going to shift things to at least get a row workout in before work on the regular. The weather this weekend is looking good for some longer morning bike rides at least.

I’m doing a voice post because I’m away at a conference and don’t feel like turning on my computer, so there may be some errors.

The hotel that we are staying at has a fitness room and so I did one hour and 15 minutes on a treadmill at 3 mph at an incline level of 2. It was a nice light work out. I really enjoy trying out the funny little gyms at hotels. It’s nice to mix it up a bit.

cinnamongrrl 07-11-2019 08:21 PM

I finally tried the Pound workout! It was amazing. Our teacher is the same one for the Sunday aqua Zumba. She is just fantastic.

I read that a 45 minute Pound class can burn 400 calories. I seriously believe it. I was GOING to take the beginners spin class immediately after Pound, but.....yeah that didn't happen :blush:

afemmenatalie 07-11-2019 08:26 PM

Ha ha! In 109 degree temperature, just breathing is exercise, let alone talking and typing and, omg, going to the gym!!

nycfem 07-12-2019 09:48 PM

I am still at a hotel in Pittsburgh, so... I walked for an hour on the treadmill in the fitness room. Pattern:

30 min., 3.1 mph, 2% incline

30 min., 3.0 mph, 2% incline

(equals = 1 hour total walk on treadmill)

I'm enjoying this lighter work-out than the stairmaster. I have the energy to do things like change the channel while doing it!

candy_coated_bitch 07-12-2019 10:52 PM

I walked to and from the mailbox. We used to drive when we had the car. It's not super far but not super close, either. So I've decided to walk there every day. Which is good for me, but damn has it been hot out.

easygoingfemme 07-13-2019 09:57 AM

I had a good bike ride. About 20 miles. I woke up feeling down which sometimes makes it hard for me to ride because it sits on my chest. I was happy to see when I pulled up to the main trail I wanted to ride, it's the day that a big bike tour that I've done a few times was riding through. That meant that the trails were sprinkled with happy cyclists and a local community group had painted all kinds of pretty signs to put up on a five mile section with messages like "you are loved" and rainbows and other happy things. It helped.

nycfem 07-13-2019 07:11 PM

I had back pain last night from the hotel treadmill- sigh, always happens with treadmills, especially cheap ones.

So today -still at the hotel- I did 20 minutes of the elliptical. It's the kind of elliptical that is most popular these days, where the feet jog instead of scissor. The machine always feels uncomfortable to me, and today was no exception. My feet were really hurting. It seems everyone else loves the elliptical but not me. Also, I could not get my heart rate up. It sucked.

Then I did the recumbent bike, level 10, and that worked fantastic. To keep myself interested and mainly to keep my heart rate up, I did exercises with a 6 pound weighted ball while biking. I biked for 30 minutes. It was a great work-out.

Then I did 15 minutes of floor exercises, weight lifting, and stretching. I haven't done that for awhile and it felt great.

One of the lesbians from the conference was in the hotel gym also working out, and we exchanged a few words. Fun! :sunglass:

My total workout today was 1 hour and 5 minutes.

I like that being away from my own gym pushes me out of my "stair master" comfort zone and pushes me to be a little creative :praying:

Gemme 07-13-2019 07:19 PM

I walked a few miles today. I don't wear a pedometer or Fitbit so I don't know how many miles but I was there from 10:30am to 3pm and I spent the vast majority of the time on the move.

nycfem 07-15-2019 07:42 PM

This evening I did 45 minutes on my favorite stairmaster. I did repeated sets of a pattern of Levels 8 down to 1, mainly 30 seconds per level, then some 15 seconds per level, then some hanging on Level 1 for the last maybe 20 minutes because my heart rate was high enough. I was tired at the beginning (yawning even) but once I was going, I was going.

nycfem 07-16-2019 07:07 PM

Today I did 40 minutes on the stairmaster. My back is bothering me a little bit. I think it's left over from the treadmill at the hotel. Also, I've been sitting in a bad position at my home desk so I rearranged things. And last night I felt a little twinge in my left knee, so I did level 7 today on the stairmaster instead of level 8 :rainbowAfro:. My pattern was:

Levels 7 down to 1, 2 minutes each level x 1 set, 1 min each level x 1 set, 30 seconds each level x 1 set, 15 seconds each level x 1 set, then level 1 until the end.

When I first got to the two stairmasters, someone was on my favorite one. So I set myself up on the other one, at which point the man got off of my favorite one. So then I took all my stuff and moved it to my favorite one. It was worth it :vigil:

Seriously good move on your part.

It's a million degrees here and with my work not having air conditioning - I'm taking it easy with outside exercise. I did a short 3k row before work today. Likely will do the same tomorrow. But would prefer to row 5k if I have time.

Keep hydrating!

candy_coated_bitch 07-16-2019 08:12 PM

I walked around a lot outside while running errands. Phew! It's hot out.

nycfem 07-17-2019 09:47 PM

Today I got my favorite stairmaster right off the bat! I did 40 minutes just playing around with various patterns.

I saw La La today and yesterday. Both times she was carrying 3 big bags, kind of like purses and gym stuff, I guess. Our interactions the past two days have been quite superficial / simplistic. Yesterday she was wearing a cute pink dress, and I said, "I like your dress." And she said, "You look good in green" (I was wearing a green shirt.). Then today she was blowdrying her long dark locks (very nice hair), and I said, "Your hair looks great." She could not return that compliment unless she wanted to lie to me :vigil:

I wonder if La La carries those bags when she does her stair climbing (Remember, Taylor told me La La has to climb a certain number of steps each day while holding her bags.). Once I asked La La what she did that day and she got a bashful, sneaky smile on her face and whispered to me, "I went shopping." It was curious and reminded me of a child. Did she feel like she shouldn't be indulging herself in anything? I'm not really sure! She does do the thing of whispering to me when she wants to tell me something she thinks is weird, usually related to anorexia-ish habits of hers. But shopping? That was interesting.

Peace and love, everyone!

easygoingfemme 07-18-2019 04:33 AM

That LaLa... I feel bad for her. She sounds completely trapped by this.

No exercise for me yesterday. No way no how. I was working in boiling soup all day and I'm only slightly exaggerating. It was horrible.

Today I'll row before work while it's somewhat cool out.

nycfem 07-18-2019 09:13 PM

Today I did 50 minutes on my favorite stairmaster. My pattern was:

Level 7 down to 1, mainly 30 seconds each level, but then also did a few 15 seconds each level towards the end. Then when I hit 35 minutes I kept myself at Level 1 for the rest of the time, because my heart rate was up. The time went by fast because it was an intense work-out.

I saw La La on the work out floor and told her I liked her leggings (they had stars on them). She told me she liked my Hello Kitty shirt. We seem to be into a little routine but it's fine- a way of saying an affectionate hello of sorts.

My back is still bothering me a tiny bit, ever since that hotel treadmill, but thankfully not much. I also keep forgetting not to sit with my body twisted at the computer, but I'm working on it.

Enjoy your exercise, friends!

nycfem 07-19-2019 06:51 PM

Today was 35 minutes on the stairmaster with a very pleasing pattern:

Levels 7 down to 1, with 30 seconds each level except for Level 3 which I always did for 1 minute so that the pattern would not get off-kilter due to the odd number of levels I chose. It worked so well.

I saw La La because she was across from me on a treadmill but we didn't speak. I saw my 80 year old friend Miriam and she "tsk tsk-ed" me for walking while texting- not that I bumped into her or anything, but ya know. I respectfully agreed with her :readfineprint:.

Hope to hear from the rest of y'all soon :)

easygoingfemme 07-19-2019 07:06 PM

Today broke me with heat as far as exercise during the day. But after I got home from work and cooled off I spent a couple of hours up on scaffolding scraping my ceilings to get ready for patch and paint and I'm counting that as exercise.

Gemme 07-19-2019 09:56 PM

I spent a couple hours walking around, spraying the weeds at work. It was disgustingly hot and humid and I definitely needed a shower afterwards. I guess that qualifies as exercise.

Tomorrow's going to be killer. 107 with the heat index. Please hydrate!

Gráinne 07-20-2019 10:03 PM

I went swimming at the health club today for 30 minutes, and feel like my arms are falling off. It felt so good, though! I also found out they have a nutritionist there for much less than an outside one, so I think I can get back on track.

nycfem 07-21-2019 07:54 PM

Today I did 40 minutes on the stairmaster. It was an intense workout. My pattern was:

Levels 7 down to 1, 2 sets, 2 minutes each level (except for levels 3 and 2 which I only did for 1 minute to even out the set)

Levels 7 down to 1, 1 set, 1 minute each level

Cool down on level 1.

I saw La La before and after my work out, both times in the locker room. Both times she was in a fluffly white robe. She looked cute. I kept my headphones in and waved to her.

I only have one more day of working out this week because then I have work training for most of this week and next which will be quite time consuming.

nycfem 07-22-2019 07:06 PM

Today I did 35 minutes on the stairmaster. I pushed myself to try something new on the stairmaster. I tried to do as long as I could without touching the sides for balance or to distribute weight. I got to 21 minutes, all within Level 1 and 2. My left leg is so much stronger than my right. That was quite noticeable. This was definitely not an easy work out, though it did take a long-ish time to get my heart rate up. After 21 minutes I had to start using my hands or my form would have suffered due to exhaustion. It was nice to experiment, though I can't say I enjoyed it much. Still, always proud of myself when I alter any routine!

Kätzchen 07-22-2019 09:07 PM

A not so funny thing began to happen to me, about two weeks ago. My legs have been killing me and when I went to shower one night while back, I noticed I had these big splotchy purplish, dark blue bursts deep in my calves. There are some too, down by the soles of my feet and around my ankle area. My legs are still killing me, but I made an appt with my primary physician to see if these splotches are broken blood vessels or veins bursting in my legs.

But I keep walking up and down stairs at work. I also go for 40 minute walks on my lunch hour, after eating a small salad for lunch.

I also walk in the evening, in the nearby fields, which have walking paths around them. I don't walk very fast, but I do walk at a pace which sometimes can leave me in a sweat and so, when that happens, I just take a little rest and slow my pace down.

I've also been lifting leg weights with my legs. It's those little weights that fit around your ankles, maybe 2-3 pound weights. I often practice trying to lift each leg when I'm on my back in bed, but I can't do it for long or for a long time. I just keep practicing that tiny little exercise, so I can help my legs get stronger? I can't do it for long because it hurts my lumbar area, but I try to do it anyway. My goal is to build up my endurance with this type of small scale weight training.

That's all I got tonight, except to say that it gives me courage to break from my routines when I hear nycfem talk about breaking up her workout routines.

I have not exercised for the past two days. The last time I exercised was Tuesday, July 23rd of this week. On Tuesday I went for a 45 minute walk during my lunch break. With that plus my regular steps to get to and fro, I had 10K steps on my iphone. My training was in a new neighborhood, so it was cool to go for a walk and look around.

I'm heading out on my bike soon. Trying to decide if I should go somewhere new or go to my favorite spot to start...

nycfem 08-04-2019 07:56 PM

I have not exercised since Tuesday July 23rd. Today, August 4th, was my first day back! I was busy with this two week all day training in Brooklyn and suffered from cumulative loss of sleep. Whenever I get very busy, that is an issue for me.

Today I did 25 minutes on the stair master. I would have done longer but I accidentally ended my workout program (hit the wrong button). That is always the worst feeling!

My pattern was 7 down to 1, two minutes each level, almost 2 sets.

My heart rate was quite high, 160s.

Afterwards in the locker room I ran into Taylor. Actually we worked out a few machines away from each other but didn't talk to each other which I was so relieved about because it's very hard to have a conversation when one's heart rate is in the 160's.

We ended up having a long talk afterwards in the locker room. I'm still trying to track down who her billionaire is (who she works for as his house manager). She told me that she was mad at a friend of hers who knows the real name of the billionaire because she alerted Taylor to a gossipy type article that mentioned one of his girls who he sees, and the girl said that he told her that he is going to marry her and have his children and that he has spent millions of dollars on her. Taylor said, "Probably only about 20 thousand." She said that she knows the girl (woman) and that she's bipolar and that she (Taylor) is sure it's not true and that Ross (her fake name for the billionaire) denies it. Taylor is still certain that Ross only sleeps with her even though he has a rotation of about 4 or 5 young women that spend the night and sleep in his bed with him. Taylor said that Ross said that in September he will start talking to her about a timeline for when he will leave his wife.

Taylor looked super skinny today. I would estimate 90 pounds at most, probably 85. Her shoulder bones were jutting up. I asked about her weight and she said she was status quo. She's 35 but she looks about 17 years old. She got annoyed with me for asking about her weight.

She told me about how a friend of hers said to her, "How do you know that Ross won't just abandon you?" Then Taylor started crying and said she was so mad at her friend for being so negative. Then she said that her father sexually abused her all her life and abandoned her when she was 13. Then she cried some more. She said she is dealing with her traumas with a new therapist.

She said, "Thanks for listening to me." I said, "Taylor, you're my favorite person at the gym." She said, "Awww, don't..." like all sweetly. I wish I was her favorite person at the gym but two others at the gym (one being Hillary) she's referred to as her best friend. Harumph!

Oh, and she also told me that they continue to have unprotected sex but that he pulls out. She really hopes to become pregnant by him and said she would definitely have his baby.

Oh, and she said that if he abandoned her that it would mean everything was a lie, and then she cried and cried.

Poor Taylor :praying:

Oh Taylor, that is so sad and we all know this isn't going to end well. That's so hard to watch go down. I'm glad she's in therapy.

Exercise yesterday was a really nice 30 miles on the bike.

I won't have time to work out before work today so I will likely either take a ride tonight or use the rower. I haven't used the rower in a couple of weeks!

nycfem 08-05-2019 07:56 PM

Today I walked to the gym, which is about 30 min. / a bit under 5000 steps.

Then I did the stairmaster for 35 minutes. My pattern was:

levels 7 down to 1, 1 set, 2 min each level

then repeated sets of levels 7 down to 1: 15 seconds for levels 7, 6,5,4 and then one minute each for levels 3,2, and 1.

My heart rate was in the 160's and it was a good workout.

I was really tired from not enough sleep, but when I get on the stairmaster and rev it up, my body and mind quickly change as if I'm being chased by a bear and I'm able to rise to the occasion.

Today and yesterday I saw Judith in the locker room. Yesterday she was cleaning her plate and cup from home that she uses for her take-out that she eats at the gym. She was wearing plastic gloves. It was a very sophisticated operation. Today she was about to head to a spin class and was wearing orange Diesel sneakers paired with an orange top. I complimented her matching orange, and she told me she has about 10 pairs of Diesel sneakers, I think in different colors so she can match- which is funny, because she is a little wild when it comes to what she puts together to wear. She has a style that's kind of busy patterned, bright colors, and a little off.

Easygoingfemme, how long does it take you to do 30 miles on your bike?

easygoingfemme 08-06-2019 05:42 AM

NYC- some depends on terrain and my mind set but usually between 2-2 1/2 hours. I'm not a speed racer on my bike. I've decided that the next time I'm in the city I want to go to the gym with you :)

Today- 5k row before work.

candy_coated_bitch 08-06-2019 04:07 PM

I walked to the leasing office and back. It's not a long walk but it was a bit of exercise.

candy_coated_bitch 08-08-2019 02:24 PM

Longer walk yesterday as we did errands downtown. We got caught in a downpour/thunderstorm on the way to the eye doctor but it was sunny again by the time we came out.

easygoingfemme 08-08-2019 04:17 PM

Post work 5k row. During the day I exercised my patience a lot.

nycfem 08-17-2019 08:31 PM

Today I went to the gym after 11 days of not exercising. I had this gap because I got hired for a new job and became overwhelmed with everything I needed to get done. Then I had trouble getting back on the healthy bandwagon. So here I am! I walked to the gym which is about 30 minutes. Then I did the stairmaster for 35 minutes with the pattern:

Levels 7 down to 1, 2 min each level, 2 sets
Level 1 for the remainder of the time

It all felt great.

I hung out for quite awhile in the locker room with Taylor. She took off her bra in front of me which she doesn't usually do. Usually she kind of hides herself and she didn't today.

While we were talking I got like two text messages, and she was a bit harsh on me, saying, "Why do you keep your cell phone on? Do you need the attention?" In my head I was like, "Whoa!" but I said, "Sorry," and switched it off. What was over-the-top is I wasn't even looking down when I received each of the two texts. I was acting as if nothing which I considered to be classy. Furthermore, when I received them she was like, "Is that my phone?" and I had to say, "No, that's my text tone."

She also gave me a bit of a hard time, as she always does, about me eating organic protein chips. Like, yes they are processed but they are still pretty healthy. She always tells me to have a handful of blueberries or some nuts. Today she asked why I eat them. She said, "Are you hungry?" I had to think for a minute, and I said, "I guess it's sort of a ritual." She seemed fairly pleased with that answer. Then she took a look at the nutritional information on the bag and said, "They're not that bad." I felt relieved to have her semi-approval. She was holding but not eating an apple. She said she needs really small apples because regular sized apples are too filling :vigil:

I love seeing Taylor, and today was no exception.

I totally get exercising one's patience. I really do.

I can't say much because this IS a public board, but I will say that it's taken a fuck ton of my emotional energy to not take the bait with the person who harasses me and bullies me at work, while that person does essentially nothing but come to work late, leave work early and helicopter's me constantly on the job, and seemingly with the stamp of approval from our work site supervisor.

But I will prevail. I will not let this injustice go (all forms of harassment, including the first instance of sexual harassment, right in front of the site supervisor).

I'm resting today, but Labor Day Weekend I plan to go walking, probably with friends, out on the coast.

Oh Taylor... poor girl.

A 5k row takes about 25 minutes.

Yesterday I biked 25 miles in an hour and a half. I don't usually check the time so I must have been off on my calculation from a week or so back. And it was super hot and humid out and I was not going at my normal pace because of it.
