Advance Style...

Advanced Style examines the lives of seven unique New Yorkers whose eclectic personal style and vital spirit have guided their approach to aging. These women were amazing, and I had been wanting to see this documentary for some time! It was well worth the wait IMHO:popcorn:

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl

Quirky high school awkwardness turns subtlety and smoothly serious. This movie was a real treat. Directing was spot on.

Casino was on TV last night....

I don't know what it is about that movie, but if it's on, I'm watching it!

Funny thing about it, it's such a long movie that I often forget entire parts and what happens next. It's kind of cool when there's that much detail to a film that you can watch it numerous times and still see something new...

I saw Magic Mike and Terminator: Genysis today.

Okay, here's my beef with MM XXL. I never saw the original but appreciate a little tilt in the sexual objectification game. I thought this would be a fun movie but even when the guys are the ones on display, women are still being put into compromising situations. Just because someone goes to a strip show does not mean they automatically want someone's crotch ground into their face. Seriously. I'm not talking in the general direction of someone's face. I'm talking a couple inches away to actually being ground on. Sometimes with hair pulling and head yanking. I need to know you a little better than that for that shit to happen. I was really wound up about it when I left the theatre but I've calmed down now.

Yes, this is me calm.

There was, however, a really nicely constructed swing.

:eyebat:

Terminator, however, did not disappoint. It was FANTASTIC. Now, for the sake of transparency, I've been a Terminator girl since day one. Love the series. They did a remarkable job blending younger/older Arnie battling together and the stunts are stupid crazy good.

I finally finished watching Frankie and Alice with Halle Berry.

It took me 4 nights..:| NOT because it wasn't an interesting movie. It was. I'm just always so tired by the time I stop for the day that I fall asleep....a lot

QueenofSmirks 07-11-2015 03:14 PM

It's actually an HBO series... Olive Kitteridge. I've been wanting to see it and am finally on episode 2 (of 4 I think). Excellent so far....

Woman In Gold Helen Mirren Ryan Reynolds

Maria Altmann, an octogenarian Jewish refugee, takes on the Austrian government to recover artwork she believes rightfully belongs to her family. This was art work stolen by the Nazis!

Enjoyed it very much:movieguy:

I watched 2 movies today.

This was okay. I never read the book series so I'm not too upset over it but there was a lot left to be desired. I liked the dragons, even though they were the bad guys and gals in the movie.

This movie surprised me. I didn't expect much and it was a freebie for me so it was an absolute pleasure that I really enjoyed it. I love me some Eve and all of the main female roles were strong. Good acting. Situations I could relate to. A win win.

Clouds of Sils Maria (2014)

A veteran actress comes face-to-face with an uncomfortable reflection of herself when she agrees to take part in a revival of the play that launched her career 20 years earlier.

I really didn't care for it but check it out and see what you think:popcorn:

Gemme 07-15-2015 05:22 PM

I saw this.

It was really cute and, if you go, STAY through the WHOLE thing. ALL of the credits. Otherwise you'll miss stuff.

And, for fun.

Danny Collins Al Pacino Annette Bening Jennifer Garner

An aging rock star decides to change his life when he discovers a 40-year-old letter written to him by John Lennon.

It was a bit different but I rather enjoyed it:popcorn:

Too Late for Tears (1949)

Through a fluke circumstance a ruthless woman stumbles across a suitcase filled with $60,000, and she is determined to hold onto it even it if means murder.
SPOILER ALERT
And murder it is, she kills one after the other!I really enjoyed this film noir flick:popcorn:
I pray I never come across a woman a vicious and heartless as this Jane Palmer!

*Anya* 07-18-2015 10:19 PM

I really enjoyed this movie a lot. It was very funny, had heart and underneath it all; had a sweetness.

I also liked that the female lead enjoyed her sexuality and made no apologies for it and neither did the movie.

The theater was packed!

This past week I have seen:

Closer (this is a repeat because I really like Natalie Portman)

My Brother's War - I liked this. Though slow to start.

Fireflies in the Garden - This was really good.

BestButchBoy 07-19-2015 08:21 AM

I like to be entertained. That's just what this delivers. Good story. You can't help but root for her to figure it out. Amy Schumer is just freakin' funny. Period. Plus, I like being in during the genesis of what promises to be a long, successful career for her. And, I have a fondness for Bill Hader, leftover from his brilliant characterizations on SNL.

It's like a summer read. Fun. Entertaining. Time worthy.

Gemme 07-19-2015 05:18 PM

I saw this tonight.

I enjoyed it but was glad that I didn't pay full price in the theatre for it.

Cailin 07-20-2015 11:14 PM

Watched "You've got mail" :) havent' seen it in a very long time. It's one of my top 10 movies.

BestButchBoy 07-21-2015 06:54 AM

Amy

The ultimate eulogy to a talented young woman who had her demons stoked by those closest to her. Not an original story. Unfortunately.

I'd recommend seeing it only if you are/were a die-hard fan of Amy Winehouse. Otherwise, wait for on-demand or Netflix and then only a bargain matinee because it's more like an E True Hollywood Story than a rich documentary. But, then again, she wasn't around long, but she did leave a mark.
