"To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting." ~e.e. cummings |
"All my life I had been looking for something, and everywhere I turned someone tried to tell me what it was. I accepted their answers too, though they were often in contradiction and even self-contradictory. I was naïve. I was looking for myself and asking everyone except myself questions which I, and only I, could answer. It took me a long time and much painful boomeranging of my expectations to achieve a realization everyone else appears to have been born with: that I am nobody but myself." ~Ralph Ellison |
"The great majority of us are required to live a life of constant duplicity. Your health is bound to be affected if, day after day, you say the opposite of what you feel, if you grovel before what you dislike, and rejoice at what brings you nothing but misfortune." ~Boris Pasternak |

"Change is hard because people overestimate the value of what they have—and underestimate the value of what they may gain by giving that up." — James Belasco and Ralph Stayer |
"The nature and structure of belief systems is important from the perspective of an informational theorist because beliefs are thought to provide the cognitive foundation of an attitude. In order to change an attitude, then, it is presumably necessary to modify the information on which that attitude rests. It is generally necessary, therefore, to change a person's beliefs, eliminate old beliefs or introduce new beliefs." — Richard Petty and John Cacioppo |
"Change has a bad reputation in our society. But it isn't all bad — not by any means. In fact, change is necessary in life — to keep us moving ... to keep us growing ... to keep us interested . ... Imagine life without change. It would be static ... boring ... dull." — Dr. Dennis O'Grady |
"Life is not the amount of breaths you make, it's the moments that take your breath away." -Hitch |
Sins of the Father
by W.D. Ehrhart Today my child came home from school in tears. A classmate taunted her about her clothes, and the other kids joined in, enough of them to make her feel as if the fault was hers, as if she can't fit in no matter what. A decent child, lovely, bright, considerate. It breaks my heart. It makes me want someone to pay. It makes me think—O Christ, it makes me think of things I haven't thought about in years. How we nicknamed Barbara Hoffman "Barn," walked behind her through the halls and mooed like cows. We kept this up for years, and not for any reason I could tell you now or even then except that it was fun. Or seemed like fun. The nights that Barbara must have cried herself to sleep, the days she must have dreaded getting up for school. Or Suzanne Heider. We called her "Spider." And we were certain Gareth Schultz was queer and let him know it. Now there's nothing I can do but stand outside my daughter's door listening to her cry herself to sleep. "Sins of the Father" by W.D. "Those that go searching for love, only manifest their own loveless ness. And the loveless never find love, only the loving find love. And they never have to seek for it." - D.H. Lawrence |
"Sometimes it's a form of love just to talk to somebody that you have nothing in common with and still be fascinated by their presence." - David Byrne |
"And think not you can Direct the course of love, For love, If it finds you worthy, Directs your course" - Khalil Gibran |
To live only for some future goal is shallow. It's the sides of the mountain that sustain life, not the top. - Robert M. Pirsig

Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face.

“The Tao Te Ching says, When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be. When I let go of what I have, I receive what I need. Have you ever struggled to find work or love, only to find them after you have given up? This is the paradox of letting go. Let go, in order to achieve. Letting go is God’s law.” – Mary Manin Morrissey |
“Every breath is an opportunity to receive and let go. I receive love and I let go of pain.” – Brenda MacIntyre |
"Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming." - John Wooden |

Two people can be just friends, but at one point or another, they will fall for each other. Maybe temporarily, maybe at the wrong time, maybe too late, or maybe forever. |
The one word solution to all the problems the world is facing is "COMPASSION" ~Amma

Today's world needs change, alteration, renewal, and corrections of errors. It needs new ideas, new approaches, methods, plans, procedures, and new ways of doing things. Maybe you should think of going -- literally or symbolically -- to a circus today, where you'll see stunts you never dreamed possible. The novelty and originality there may stimulate what you need more of in this life. Have the daring to take a flight for the idea you believe in!
Wilferd A. Peterson |
We communicate happiness to others not often by great acts
of devotion and self-sacrifice, but by the absence of fault-finding and censure, by being ready to sympathize with their notions and feelings, instead of forcing them to sympathize with ours. Adam Clarke |
Worry a little bit every day and in a lifetime you will lose
a couple of years. If something is wrong, fix it if you can. But train yourself not to worry. Worry never fixes anything. Mary Hemingway |

" Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned"

"Most people can look back over the years and identify a time and place at which their lives changed significantly. Whether by accident or design, these are the moments when, because of a readiness within us and a collaboration with events occurring around us, we are forced to seriously reappraise ourselves and the conditions under which we live and to make certain choices that will affect the rest of our lives." - Frederick F. Flack |
"There are no prescriptive solutions, no grand designs for grand problems. Life's solutions lie in the minute particulars involving more and more individual people daring to create their own life and art, daring to listen to the voice within their deepest, original nature, and deeper still, the voice within the earth." - Stephen Nachmanovitch |
"This is how change happens, though. It is a relay race, and we're very conscious of that, that our job really is to do our part of the race, and then we pass it on, and then someone picks it up, and it keeps going. And that is how it is. And we can do this, as a planet, with the consciousness that we may not get it, you know, today, but there's always a tomorrow."- Alice Walker |
We collect data, things, people, ideas, "profound experiences," never penetrating any of them. But there are other times. There are times when we stop. We sit still. We lose ourselves in a pile of leaves or its memory. We listen and breezes from a whole other world begin to whisper.
