I love turkey burgers. The more delicate flavor of the meat lends itself to more options for seasoning. :) Now i'm extra jealous!

i didn't season these...bought them frozen. not so jealous anymore eh? :laughin: I did, however, fry up a few onions to go on top.

Good Afternoon HD,

Careful of the ground turkey. It has just as much fat and calories in it that is similar to red meat. Have you tried ground chicken?

I eat a lot of turkey, chicken and seafood and bake most of it. If I have to fry something, I use extra virgin olive oil.

Enjoy your lunch!

I LOVE turkey burgers. I use ground turkey in most any meat dishes I make as well. I LOVE Ruby Tuesday's Avocado turkey burger. I LOVE turkey bacon also. Denny's has an awesome one.
HD I make what is called a "gamecock grinder". Being from the upstate of SC where Clemson University and Clemson TIGERS are from..their arch nemesis being the SC Gamecocks, in Columbia,SC.. HEY...Ms. Cuddles....<smile> anyway we made a sandwich called Gamecock Grinder. It is ground turkey browned, drained, add in bacon pieces all diced up and diced onion, and cook. Add that to a hoagie roll with mayo, lettuce, tomato, and cheese......yummmmm
Now that I have made us all hungry...lol

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I did some research in regards to ground turkey. Here is the most legible website I could find. It is: http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/...products/932/2

It has more cholesterol in it than regular ground beef. Read the labels as to what is in it also. I will gladly eat my 93% lean ground beef in small portions.

Sorry to derail the thread, but since I took my health into my hands and making sure what I eat is almost vegan. I beat my chances of heart disease and diabetes.

I just want to make sure you all are healthy!

Zimmy

Zimmeh 06-29-2011 01:16 PM

I'm sorry and I hope you get to feeling better. Try and eat some saltine crackers and Perrier water. It will help to settle your stomach.

Almonds... I use then as a snack. Do you have a Max Muscle store near you? They do free consultations.

Delish 06-29-2011 01:38 PM

I hope I can eat nuts lol. I gotta ask. No we don't have 1 of those stores.

Eggs are also good, Greek yogurt and Kashi puts out some really good cereals that are high protein.

Delish 06-29-2011 02:07 PM

I HATE eggs lol but thanks for the info :)

Small indie theater with only 2 screens. Apparently under new management.
I had never been there before. I am still kind of mad about it.
At least when I worked at a theater, we would let people know whats going on or hold the movie or at least get people their stuff fast.
The concession was also selling tickets, so you can imagine how fast everything was going. I think only 2 people were working or something.

Hey Delish:
Here ya go...right from Harvard!!!
Pay attention to the protein package. Fish, poultry, and beans are your best bets.

1. Mix it up. Most reasonable diets provide enough protein for healthy people. Eating a variety of foods will ensure that you get all of the amino acids you need.

2. Go low on saturated fat. Beans, fish and poultry provide plenty of protein, without much saturated fat. Steer clear of fatty meats and use whole-milk dairy products sparingly. For more information on saturated fat, read "Fats and Cholesterol: Out with the Bad, In with the Good."

3. Limit red meat—and avoid processed meat. Research suggests that people who eat more than 18 ounces a week of red meat have a higher risk of colon cancer. So make red meat—beef, pork, lamb—only an occasional part of your diet, if you eat it at all. And skip the processed stuff—bacon, hot dogs, and deli meats—since that's also been linked to higher cancer risk. Try these healthy protein recipes for nuts and tofu, fish and chicken.

4. Eat soy in moderation. Tofu and other soy foods are an excellent red meat alternative. In some cultures, tofu and soy foods are a protein staple, and we don’t suggest any change. But if you haven't grown up eating lots of soy, there's no reason to go overboard: Two to 4 servings a week is a good target; eating more than that likely won't offer any health benefits and we can’t be sure that there is no harm. And stay away from supplements that contain concentrated soy protein or extracts, such as isoflavones, as we just don't know the long term effects. Read more about soy and health.

5. Balance carbs and protein. Cutting back on highly processed carbohydrates and increasing protein improves levels of blood triglycerides and HDL, and so may reduce your chances of having a heart attack, stroke, or other form of cardiovascular disease. It may also make you feel full longer, and stave off hunger pangs. For tips on how to choose high quality carbs, check out the Carbohydrates section of The Nutrition Source.
Animal protein and vegetable protein probably have the same effects on health. It's the protein package that's likely to make a difference. A 6-ounce broiled porterhouse steak is a great source of protein—38 grams worth. But it also delivers 44 grams of fat, 16 of them saturated. That's almost three-fourths of the recommended daily intake for saturated fat. The same amount of salmon gives you 34 grams of protein and 18 grams of fat, 4 of them saturated. A cup of cooked lentils has 18 grams of protein, but under 1 gram of fat

So when choosing protein-rich foods, pay attention to what comes along with the protein. Vegetable sources of protein, such as beans, nuts, and whole grains, are excellent choices, and they offer healthy fiber, vitamins and minerals. The best animal protein choices are fish and poultry. If you are partial to red meat, stick with the leanest cuts, choose moderate portion sizes, and make it only an occasional part of your diet.

Zimmeh 06-29-2011 03:03 PM

Organic soy products is the only complete non animal protein.

I found that organic soymilk is one good way. You can even try tofu.

Good luck with your surgery!

Zimmy

Do you have access to a dietician? When I took my human nutrition class, we learned a lot about what are complete proteins. I love to have one of gluten free Greek yogurt that has probiotics in it.
