I just watched this and liked it, too. I really enjoyed watching the star, Louisa Krause. She was so good and believable. I liked the guy who played Jack, Gabriel Ebert. Most of the other characters (her family) were annoying, but she was a joy to watch. And she had a bullshit meter that was on the money.

Thanks for mentioning it.

I loved it too, brilliant. I had no idea who played who until King Louie first spoke ... unmistakable Christopher Walken. :)

The boy was great. For a first time actor who doesn't have other actors to work against, he did such a remarkable job. Everything but Mowgli is CG and it's fantastic.

I love Ben Kingsley's voice anyway and he was awesome as Bagheera. So many good voice actors in this flick!

If you like to see how movies like this are made, watch this.

If you see it, stick around for the credits. They do a little something, pop up book style, with them.

True Story! It was a great movie!

I saw this today.

I liked it but I don't think that it's going to be as lucrative as the previous installments. It's truthful, though, and it's got Cedric the Entertainer plus a bevy of other wonderful folks.

Papa Hemingway in Cuba.......

Stars: Giovanni Ribisi, Joely Richardson, Adrian Sparks

Thanks to a friend of mine that has 'connections' I was able to see a screener of this movie that won't open in theaters until April 29th.

I really liked it:movieguy:

TANGERINE

97% on Rotten Tomatoes critic meter

The whole movie was filmed with 3 iPhones but you would never know it. It is a crazy, funny, sweet, movie with a heart, about two trans women sex workers in LA on Christmas Eve after one gets out of jail and finds out her pimp/boy-friend has been cheating on her. They spend most of the movie looking for Chester, the cheating boy-friend and is about their adventures while looking for him. It does show the dirty underbelly of LA that you don't see in pretty LA movies.

I had been wanting to get it on Amazon and was going to pay to stream it but just found it on Netflix. Neither of the women leads had ever acted before but you would never know that either-they are such good, natural actors.

I don't know what the life of a trans woman sex worker is like but I know the movie treats them well, they are not looked at as a joke or the butt of one. One review said, "By the end of the film, we are reminded that they have hearts that can be hurt, and are doing what they can to survive".

Bastille Day

Went to see this movie last night.
I really liked it, which I was kind of surprised about.
It's not a demanding film to watch, basically a action film.
The only thing you have to use ya head for is the subtitles.
If you want a film that's got action, humour and is in a great city then this is for you.
It's good to see it on the big screen, with ya popcorn and drink and a friend.
Friday & Saturday nights are made for this kind of movie.
So check the trailer out if you fancy a look.

Nina.........

I know there has been much controversial issues surrounding this movie, but I liked it.

Say what you will about Zoe Saladana being cast for the role, and yes often the suits in Hollywood leave one scratching their head as to decisions they make, you will be hard pressed to find fault with the vocals she performs through out the movie!

On a personal note, even tho it was a short flashback, I enjoyed the phone conversation between Nina and Richard Pryor.

An old one: Beauty and the Beast. No fancy remake or anything. Just the old Disney flick. An acquaintance livestreamed it over rabb.it the other night. (Why? Long story, but there were some interesting parallels to a show we watch that's unfortunately on hiatus right now so we're basically going stir-crazy in the meantime.)

A while before that, the Utena movie (also livestreamed over rabb.it). Which is kind of like if the Japanese were challenged to make an animated film about a gay couple that's trippier than Alice in Wonderland because I went in completely sober and got a total acid trip.

I did a double feature tonight. One was planned and one was a surprise.

I saw The Huntsman: Winter War tonight and it was as expected. Visually stunning and pretty fast paced fight scenes blended with twisted fairy tale fantasy. I enjoyed it although I think the advertising is a tad bit misleading. This trailer is the best I could find at describing the movie although the movie guy is wrong. It's not 'the story before Snow White'....it's the story before and after Snow White. Semantics, but still.

Plus, I'm a fan of Emily Blunt and she was stunning.

Then I made a snap judgment to stay for Criminal. I'd originally planned to wait until it came out on Redbox to see but I'm glad I opted to see it tonight. It's really well done, also fast paced and Kevin Costner's still doing a pretty good job even though he's a codger now.

Plus I'm a big fan of Ryan Reynolds and he was as charming as he could be, given the situation.

Eye in the Sky

This movie bugged me no end.

I don't want to give a spoiler so will just say: politics.

The GF liked it and I bothered her by sighing frequently. She knows me so well she knew that they were not happy sighs.

I rented Jane Got a Gun a few days ago. It was pretty good for a Western. I have to be in the mood for Westerns, so take that last comment with a grain of salt. I like Natalie Portman and I like sassy and strong women, so I did enjoy it.

The Duke of Burgundy

The Duke of Burgundy....an interesting film you'll either love or hate but I think it would have been better if directed by a woman.

It was a little out there for us.

Interesting, yes. We didn't hate it but did not love it either.

Ich will Dich

Ich will Dich aka I Want You is a 2014 German film. Marie is a successful designer and has a loving husband and two children. But fate offers more. When she meets the fiancée of their friend Dom, there is an instant attraction and the two women fall for each other. Great movie with believable characters and plot. The Marie character is a doppelganger for Cate Blanchett. Who knows, maybe this was the film that persuaded Cate to do Carol...

I saw Mother's Day today. It was okay. I wasn't surprised, as Rotten Tomatoes didn't give it a great review, but all of those fantastic actors and it was just okay. That's kind of sad.

There were some really good moments, though, and the bloopers during the credits was really cute.
