Ok crafter friends...help!

I'm looking for a product or technique to give a piece of water colored art, a 3D look..a China glaze, raised smooth look. I've tried, but the water colors under seem to get wet again and run. I've tried different sealing stuff...still runs. Any ideas?

Have you tried salt? It may not be as smooth as you would like but it would definitely raise the image.

Also, maybe try mixing the watercolors with a texture paste? Those will harden and stay. The nature of watercolors really prohibits them being wetted multiple times without them scooting around all over but if you mix the colors themselves with something that will form the image you're looking for, you have a better shot of getting the image you desire.

hey everyone.....just checking in.....wondering how everyone is fairing with their projects....CCB....Besame...Gemme....FireSign...Ta llulah....nycfem....Breathless....Genesis....clay. ...wait..that's me...lol

We have around 15 days left....:):sunglass:......:goodluck:

candy_coated_bitch 04-23-2016 02:45 PM

I'm still in the planning stages but I am confident I can execute what I'm thinking of.

Gemme 04-23-2016 07:46 PM

I have stuff all over in varying degrees of doneness but I should have everything to you well before the May 9th receipt deadline.

Bèsame* 04-23-2016 07:54 PM

I too, have things pretty spread out. I'm still experimenting with an end result.

I'm thinking of taking on part two...gonna work on that soon!

Clay your sparking ideas!!!

FireSignFemme 04-24-2016 02:33 AM

I have four pieces finished and prepped for shipment and four more started that should be finished by tomorrow or the day after.

Gemme 04-27-2016 09:33 AM

Wrangle reminder

Now that the deadline is less than 2 weeks away and some of the early birds will be sending their work to clay any day now, I'd like to remind everyone to include money for shipping and repackaging.

Wranglers aren't here to foot the bill for shipping and I don't want clay to have the issue that I had last round, when two people didn't send any money at all. That was a bit frustrating for me, honestly, and I don't want clay to have to deal with that as well.

Please be considerate and make sure to get your work in on time, include an appropriate amount of money for shipping given your location ($5 domestic, $10 for international) and make sure put a piece of yourself in your work.

I keep all the projects I participate in and now that I've got a designated art and crafts room, I am enjoying those projects again and again as I display them. Oh and make sure to put your information on each piece...usually on the back or the outside of the baggie if it's in one.

Thank you Gemme!!! So appreciate your posting this. Being a new wrangler. I may overlook posting something...

I wanted to add:

Make sure to include a legible return address!

If you want a piece to go to someone specifically, please be sure it is labelled accordingly, otherwise choice is up to wrangler!!

Make sure your $$ is where I can see/find it easily...thanks!!!

REMINDER:
"For 2016, the rule is if one of our projects is received by the wrangler more than seven days after the due date, or one of us drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a group project again until January 1st, 2017. No exceptions. This rule applies to participants and to wranglers. This rule must be posted at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project. And for the purposes of clarification, if someone drops out before the deadline to sign up has been closed then they are not excluded from future projects because they are still following the rules."

I'm really sorry to hear that, Gemme. Knowing that kind of takes the shine off for me.

Gemme 04-29-2016 08:07 PM

Hey, all.

I'm a little slow sometimes, so some of you may already know about this arts and craft community project but I just learned of it and thinks it's fantastic and totally up some of our alleys. It calls for creative energy to be explored daily with little to no expectation, thus allowing for pure creativity without prejudice or self-editing or criticism.

It isn't a thread project and should not interfere with clay's project or any future projects but if you are interested, check out The100DayProject.

It was the first time I had that happen and just want to make sure, especially with some new artists joining us, that it doesn't occur again.

nycfem 04-30-2016 03:17 AM

If someone doesn't put money in maybe it's because they forgot. Yes, maybe that is a little careless but we get excited about our projects sometimes and make a mistake. I think it is fine to either PM someone or mention it directly on the thread, Hey, so-and-so, you forgot to include the shipping costs. I would assume most of the time it is an honest mistake, and there's no shame in speaking up with a gentle nudge to let the person know they must have forgotten. Now it's a different story if someone is not responsive when the wrangler reached out to them. The nice thing to do is to apologize and send it right away.

Agreed. It happens to all of us at one point or another but I don't like bill collectors and I don't like feeling like one. I think everyone knows if they did or didn't send money. It may take a day or two, but they figure it out, usually in an 'aha!' or 'I forgot to turn the stove off!' moment. Usually, they'll contact the wrangler and send it out by itself like you said. That's how it's worked until this last round, anyway. I wanted to put a little emphasis on that will some new crafty blood entering the fold, so no one else has this issue going forward.

Gemme 05-02-2016 06:03 PM

Our deadline for clay's resist project is only ONE WEEK away!!!!!!! Get your projects ready to mail now.

Also, May is National Scrapbooking Month.

3.Project deadline for mailing out to me...will 04/24 ample enough? That gives 21 days crafting time...or do we want to give til 04/30...that would give 27 days creating timeframe...let me know ASAP please....

4. The medium can be of each crafter's own choosing......fabric, watercolor paper (hot pressed kind), any kind of paper that will allow for wax resist & watercolors...or maybe something one of you tries/tried and found to work also....I am totally open and leave each with free reign for their choice & creativity....

5. ATC's are very popular with this group, so I am amenable to anyone doing them...with size being their own choosing...inchies, twinchies, rinchies, et al....be creative just HAVE FUN...

All typical rules are in play:

#1. #2. Please add $5 for repackaging and postage. I'll send my address to you once signups are complete.

#3. Make panels, or pairs, or a series (I know so many of us are really awesome at these if one chooses to do ATC's) of any of the following: traditional 2.5x3.5 ATCs, rinchies, twinchies, inchies, minis or micros or a combination thereof.

#4. If you choose fabric, you can use a swatch, a bandanna, or whatever you wish, but keep in mind the repacking & postage to mail back out....

#5. The Un theme is a very literal....Glad Rags, Paper Bags, & Happy Tags. It's your interpretation, so be as literal or abstract as you want to be. Any materials are accepted within reason to be able to be mailed within parameters of the postage sent in with project.

Hoping I have done this correctly & not screwed up too badly... ...once I get feedback....I will post a sign up list....this is a proposal to get everyone thinking....joining in...

As far as supplies, with the wide range to choose from, should be good for all budgets. I want folks to HAVE FUN....step out of the proverbial box and HAVE FUN......use crayons as a "resist" OR Vaseline on card stock as one of the links I posted showed...glue & gesso...candle wax....and watercolors are inexpensive......my aim is we have fun doing & exploring a new to us technique, to be stress free...and fun to use....

Feel free to ask me any questions...anyone...at all...:).

Happy designing!!!

The deadline to receive the project is May 9, 2016....as we have extended it to allow for Breathless to join us, whom is in Canada!!! Please send me 8 projects since there are 9 people participating. In return, I will send each of you a project from all participants.

1. Clay
2. Besame
3. Gemme

We will each make one item for each participant. If one chooses to do more than one, awesome. But one is the required number!

All typical rules are in play:

Please add $5 if you are in the US and $10 International, for repackaging and postage. Please send cash as I don't want to have to deal with checks, money orders, etc!!! Thank you for your cooperation in this...:)

Please put a slip of paper in with the package with a legible & complete return address so I can get your delicious goodies back to you...:)...thank you!

When you mail the package to me, make sure I DO NOT HAVE TO SIGN for it....please & thank you!!

I'll send my address to you in a PM soon.

I will use the plastic bubble envelopes to mail back most likely.

Whatever medium one chooses if they use cloth or swatch....make these at least 6"x6" and can be up to 8" by 10" as cloth folds relatively flat for mailing...a bandanna comes in a generic size usually and also folds relatively easy for mailing.

Choose whatever medium you wish, but keep in mind the repacking & postage to mail back out....

The Un theme is a very literal....Resist & colors. It's your interpretation, so be as literal or abstract as you want to be. Any materials are accepted within reason to be able to be mailed within parameters of the postage sent in with project.

Thank you for all of you signing up! This will be a fun & interesting project & I am eager to see everyone's own interpretation of this one.....have an awesome week.....:)...clay.........

Many reminders went out. I thought the discussion was had earlier to extend the orginal date? Did I miss something??

The original due date was May 2nd or 3rd, so the 9th was the extended due date. Folks still have the next few days to get their projects to clay before any repercussions will apply.

I have a question please....

the 7 day bufferzone....past May 9th....is Sunday....since mail doesn't run on Sunday.....that would make it be Saturday, the 14th, correct? After that date, the projects are considered to arrive past the buffer zone???

Thanks for clarification.

Three folks have yet to send me any notifications of whether theirs has shipped or not or when to expect their packages...so far I have two in hand besides mine....

Personally, I'd err on the side of Monday the 16th versus Saturday the 14th.

If you get any projects beyond the 16th, I would definitely consider them late.

nycfem 05-10-2016 07:13 PM

The last day of the one week lateness window is this Monday.

I don't like to use that lateness window but did this time (caught up in starting a new job). I mailed mine today priority and it should arrive on Friday, Saturday latest.

Really excited to see everyone's projects :).

nycfem 05-10-2016 07:30 PM

Yes, the deadline is Monday, May 9th. If you add "7" to the deadline that gives you the last day of the one week window of lateness before the projects go out (Monday, May 16th).

We have the one week window in the rule that gets posted with every project. The reason for it (stemming from how it was decided) is that being a little late on a project is reasonable but once you go beyond being one week late, that becomes just too long. It also takes the burden off the wrangler to feel beholden to someone who is more than a week late. If you're beyond one week late, that's too late! More than one week late = Feel free to participate in discussions in the thread but as far as participating in projects, see ya in 2017 :hamactor:

Genesis and Tallulah, you are both new but you were advised to read the rules of participation before signing up.

Your projects should be on their way to clay now. If clay does not receive them on or before Monday, May 16th, you will be prohibited from participating in any future projects through the end of the year.

There's still time to get them out. Just make absolute sure that they arrive on the 16th. The 17th and later is officially late.

I was really looking forward to seeing what you came up with so I'm hoping that clay receives them, and in time, so you can participate more this year.

UPDATES

I have left messages for Genesis but yet to hear back. Hopefully her package is en route as well....

NEED:
Genesis
Breathless

Hoping they will arrive by tomorrow afternoon's mail delivery OR UPS...my deliveries are always late afternoon OR early evening!

I hope so as well! Breathless always does a lovely job and I'm interested to see what Genesis came up with.
