Having said that.....the majority of bathroom germs are not on the toilets but are on the toilet paper dispensers and the door latches. Carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer with you and you should be good on all fronts. |

Even worse, for me, is that people wash their hands and then open the door with their bare hands! OMG! You are touching the handle after all the people that did not wash their hands. I always use a paper towel to open the door after I wash my hands in the bathroom! GF refuses to do this. She is the one that never gets sick and I do. Whaaat? |

At work I wash my hands. Open the door with paper towels and still go back to my desk and use hand sanitizer. |
The smell of the grocery store, especially nearing the meat section. All I smell is blood.
The smell of meat cooking. The smell of cigarettes. Unfresh breath be it from dog or child. Leftover food that sits in the fridge for more than a day. Oily skin. |

Is there really an epidemic of people dying from "Restroom Door Handle Germs" ?Any nation that uses bits of paper to smear stuff around its privates instead of washing with water surely should examine the the first steps in the problem rather than the last. Carry a canteen at all times. |

No epidemic that I'm aware HOWEVER I do not like the idea of other people's germs. For starters you have cold/flu/viruses that could be caught. And I prefer to not get sick. Now true these germs can be on any door handle and surfaces but I keep hand sanitizer in my car. Also there's the possibility of fecal bacteria on hands that have touched said door because they don't wash their hands. It's the knowledge that some people are gross. |

I will spare you the whole article but the title of this Scientific American article is: "Public bathrooms house thousands of bacteria" http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/...s-of-bacteria/ Nuff' said and yes, I will keep on keeping on using toilet seat protectors and paper towels to open bathroom doors. I will put myself out here for more laughter to tell you; I also cover my finger with a clean Kleenex to push the elevator buttons now. :nurseshot: As a nurse, once you know these things, if you have any OCD at all: you just can't unknow them. |

Or lick your fingers without washing them first. Germs are like vaccines. You need to ingest a little bit to inoculate yourself against the majority of them. If you are so strict about not coming into contact with germs, you are actually weakening your immune system. So sayeth the mud pie eater. |

Well, except for vaccines, that is. Prevention becomes the name of the game. |

We practiced the 5 second rule a lot in our house. Maybe that helped. I became a lot healthier and stronger once I got out on my own. My mother and her husband smoked crazy wild and I spent basically my whole 5th year in hospitals. Maybe that helped. Who knows? Our bodies are strange and mystical things sometimes. |
When I see a woman wearing sandals, who has not taken care of her feet. The sight of dry, cracked, dirty heels really grosses me out!
They just don't take care of themselves. |
People doing their nails at work. Gak!! Uncouth!!

Bad breath and/or ugly toes. And liver....def liver!!!!

It sucks when they only have blowers, so you can't use a paper towel to turn off the water or open the door. |

Nope. Wrong! For you and Anya....the toilet seat and door handles are the cleanest surfaces in most bathrooms...however, this is what you must avoid touching and no one ever thinks about it except the janitor. :canoworms: |

I touch door handles in public restrooms and I am not ashamed.

Gemme, of course the floor is the very worst! I have held things in my hands while I squated over a toilet rather than put them down on the ground. And yes, I read that the seat is safe. I have heard that before. I hadn't heard that about the door handle, though. |
Quote:
That depends on what articles you read. Some say it has the least germs/bacteria and some say it's one of the surfaces with the most. Personally, I'll stick to my habits.... Better safe than sorry. |
ummm these are all fascinating...but way too gross for me to think about..one of the things I absolutely hate to touch is any kind of ground meat...it just reminds me of hibee jibee things..i just can't:twitch:
