Bumping this thread again, tonight. Wow, hurricane season is already off to a worrisome start.
Also, fire season is already active in my home state. It is very dry here and next week our first heat wave will be underway. :( Climate change is real. There is also dire water shortages too. Post here to let us know what is going on where you live. So far, we are okay. But it was just six months ago that my whole county, nearly, burned away. Just three weeks ago a patch of our county, in a badly burned area, was on fire again and we got alerts to standby and go, at a moments notice. We could also suffer a water shortage this summer. It is worrisome. Stay safe everyone. :praying: |
Well, I've gotten lucky with this one. Henri was just shy of hurricane status when he hit land at 70 mph winds. It went nearly right over me so the winds weren't as bas as predicted for my area but there are still over 80,000 homes and businesses without power right now in Rhode Island. We've gotten a couple of inches of rain so far and will have more later. The wind is still gusting quite a bit now but should simmer down as it moves West of us.
|
We just have heavy rain and some wind. Where my office is in Connecticut could have more rain and flooding.
|
Henri is starting to show his presence now. The winds have picked up some and there are periodic bands of rain. The ground is so soaked that more rain and a little wind could be a disastrous combination. The river that runs on the south side of the road where the store sits, is at about midlevel right now. A month or so ago it was overflowing it's retaining wall because of all the rain we've had. Hopefully we don't get the 4 to 6 inches of rain Henri has been handing out to many.
|
Henri blew by us safely. The storm brought the river up to almost overflowing again and there were some flickering lights but that was about it. Prayers for the people of Louisiana as Ida looks to be a bad one.
|
Well one fire map says one thing this one says another, it's tough to know what to believe. All I know is we've been having some really poor air quality. Today it was better though so let's hope they've got things under control and the worst is over. It's 7PM and about 84 degrees out now
|
August 29, 2005 and now August 29, 2021. 16 years to the day. First, Katrina and now, Ida. There's got to be something to say about that but I really don't know what it is. I hope our LA and MS members and family are able to get through this storm safely. (f)

Good thoughts sent to the people of LA and MS. Can't begin to imagine your misery. Hope the utilities go back in service long before they are guestimating. May it happen as South FL did after Hurricane Andrew. We had utilities back up within 2-3 days. May that be similar for you!
Those who believe in a deity, please send them blessings, spellwork, and prayers. |

This is heavy on my mind too. I'll be watching the news and hoping for updates when folks can do so. All of my thoughts and positive energy will be directed at those impacted. |
I live in Central Florida. Through my own stupidity, plus a quirk in my personal equipment, I am one of the early victims of hurricane Milton.
I spent hours on Monday getting ready for the storm. I had all my big potted plants in the garage. l was on my last task and I needed scissors, which were on the table behind me. Ok, I'm going to insert a bit of information. I've mentioned this in other threads, but not recently. I am a dinosaur, part of a dying breed. I had polio when I was a kid and now, many years later, I use a three wheel scooter for mobility. So I'm baking up without looking behind me, which is where the stupidity comes in. The quirk is that when backing up, if my scooter encounters a barrier, rather than stopping it tries to climb over what ever is in it's way. The result is my scooter starts to tip over. Mostly I can react quickly enough by switching from reverse to forward and stop it from going over. I was not successful this time and the scooter just rolled right over, dumping me knees first onto the concrete garage floor. OUCH! I thought right away it was broken. I dug my purse out from under me, called, 911, the fire department showed up and took me to the emergency room. Yep it was broken. Not a bad break. The corner of the bone is cracked at the joint. After hours of consultation they decided I don't need surgery or a cast. They ordered a knee brace for me to hold the joint still so it can heal. Later a valiant gentleman brought it directly to the hospital even though his company had already closed in advance of Milton. He was so nice and I was so excited to be able to go home. Bad news the brace was way too long for my leg, so they have to order another one. And remember I said they were closed? So no brace till after Milton departs. But again Mr Valiant jumped in. He placed the order himself to save time rather than wait for the hospital staff to do it. So there is a small hope that it will be here Friday. Meanwhile I am stuck in the hospital where they won't let me get out of bed. There is no worse torture for me than to have to sit still. There is some good news. Quite a bit actually. I am in a hospital which multiple people have assured me is the safest place in s hurricane. I will not be alone during the storm. The food is pretty good here and I will not have to cook. They have huge generators so the lights will not go out. I am not in a lot of pain, except for the torture of having to sit in this bed for days. There will be people with much larger problems than mine. I know what happened to me is pretty insignificant. Thanks for listening. Smooches, Keri I'm posting from my phone and can't manage changing the font and color, but it's me |
We are in central Fl as well. I am not watching too much TV ATM, as it will "change" constantly. SO, I will watch it later this afternoon.
I will check in as I can, and outer bands will begin to reach us around 5pm, then downhill from there! NOTE: iamkeri......we are very sorry to hear of your accident. IF we can do anything for you, please reach out! Sends healing hugs & vibes from us. Everything is weird around us.....just silence, dark cloudy skies, & rain. That will change in next few hours. Thank you to all of you sending us love, for keeping us in your hearts, & thoughts, and loving me! I<3 all of you!! |
iamkeri1 I am so sorry to hear about your fall. I would think it's a horrible feeling to have to leave your house at a time like this without time to prepare. However, I'm glad you'll have people around you, food, and assistance with your injury.
Clay, you know you and yours are in my thoughts too. We'll be watching for updates. Let us know if you need help getting weather info or anything else we might be able to assist with. |
Cat 3 made landfall. Scary as hell. I've lost power...
I'm safe. |
Severe Weather Check-In !
Besame it is good to hear you are safe and lets hope you stay that way. I do hope your Butch is ok too. You people have been through hell and back this last while.
|
I heard from Clay. They are okay. It was a scary night. There is some damage to the perimeter of their property but their house is okay. Power went out last night and remains out.
|
This has been the longest week of my life! I survived a Cat 3 hurricane. My bestie gave me the merit badge..lol
Long night, hardly slept, sideways winds and gusting 100 mph winds. The house I evacuated to is good. I got word some homes took at hit in my neighborhood. I had to wait for the ok to drive. There were down power lines and trees. So when I got to leave, I saw all of that and more. My home seems fine, still no power. I'm staying at the evac house for now. I'm also pet sitting. Thank goodness the power came on over here ! Thank you to all who kept with me last night. I have to go empty the bathtub now😉 |
I have power!
I stopped by my house to put ice in the ice chest and found a couple of lights on!! Not sure how cold my freezer stayed. That's a job for tomorrow. I left evac house just in time for some river and creek flooding started. So I'm home, going to sleep in my own bed tonight . |
Severe Weather Check-in!
We get daily occurences from Florida and it seems to only get worse daily. It is a shame so many people have lost everything they own but at least there are not that many lives taken although one is one too many. We cannot control mother nature but endurance is the answer. Terrible scenes of every part of business and homes just flattened. We can only pray that those who are ok remain as such.

clay is safe
We FINALLY got power back, after 15hrs, and internet back last evening!
THANK YOU to all my friends here who kept in touch with us, and easy for posting for us! Our area was hit really hard, and our home is unscathed, BUT an adjoining neighborhood, not part of us, had a HUGE maple tree that fell into our yard, taking out our privacy fence in 3 places, and one of our palms sheared off and broke a section of the privacy fence that blocks the preserve behind us. Neighbors came out n force to help my sons & Chris rake up a quarter acre of yard debris. THE worst part is lying in total darkness while 110mph winds & gusts happen, torrential rains,we got 10". The howling eerie sounds of those winds terrified me. I was so scared. Wife & I just held onto one another. NOW, there is 3 invests out there, 1 of which formed exactly how/where Helene & Milton did. Will know in about 9 days if is a threat to us again! We are truly blessed as it hit this area really hard! |
