Not Madonna!!!

Well, she is the Queen of Reinvention, so maybe that's fitting. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

I'm getting rid of Quicken SE, IBM OS/2, MS Encarta and Crayola Art Studio for "Windows" - no version listed. I can't quite decide what I want to do with them though - I want to use the little envelopes somehow, too. Hmm - still thinking.

I have a survey question. If you were to receive a piece of jewelry, say a necklace, would you wear it?

nycfem 05-30-2016 07:55 PM

Heck yeah!

I think that would be awesome and the kind of thing that you would do very well. I've already drooled over some of your jewelry, so I'd wear it.

Gemme 05-30-2016 09:34 PM

This has nothing to do with our project but I'm really excited with the haul that I got today and you all are the most likely to understand how happy I am right now. I hit up Lowe's, ACMoore, Michael's and Barnes & Noble. I also went to a sports store for compression wraps but that has nothing to do with crafting.

I got cement board tape. I went to Lowe's for drywall joint tape but they didn't have any small rolls of it and I wasn't sure how much I would actually wind up using so I liked the size of the roll and the pattern of the cement board tape plus I got 50 ft of that for less than $4.

A.C.Moore was super fun, as usual. I had a coupon plus today there was a coupon for additional points to go on my card. I got clearance poster art in various sizes, from full 24x36 poster size to 36x12 pictures. One I think I'm going to frame and some of the others I am going to cut and frame like a triptych but maybe 4-6 pieces total. The rest will be cut up as collage pieces. Each of these were only $1. One dollar each!!! I also got two stained glass art coloring books (one mermaids and one for butterflies), one bottle of gold flecked acrylic ink, some stencils and stencil brushes, a sanding pad, several mini punches, a tiny ream of lace and a container of pearl beading.

Michael's was the surprise for me today. I usually find good stuff there but I honestly didn't have anything in mind but still found $40 worth. I got some mini hemp reams, packets of small crocheted flowers, a ribbon pack, 2 clear stamps, 6 water brushes, a tube of coloring paper washi, a piece of wall art and a roll of jute.

I got a book from B & N, which I will read and then use the pages as background pieces.

I'm getting ready to start my 100 days of art.

For those that don't know what I'm talking about, click here.

I'm looking forward to it and think that I'll have a lot of fun doing it.

I would providing it was plain, simple, inexpensive - not too big or showy.

clay, look at any of CCB's posts and her etsy link is at the bottom of the post. She's got tre cute and quirky stuff, which is right up my alley. I don't wear a lot of jewelry at all but when I do, I enjoy some unique pieces.

candy_coated_bitch 05-31-2016 06:08 PM

If I go on the direction in thinking I will make it so that it can be worn as a pendant or bevan ornament/sun catcher.

That's a super creative idea and can't wait to see it!

nycfem 05-31-2016 07:30 PM

I tried to google what a bevan was, feeling very uncool for not knowing that art term. It only took me about an hour to realize you were just using an alternative spelling for "evan" ;). Lord help me!

nycfem 05-31-2016 07:32 PM

Oh, and in case you wondered, here's the definition of bevan (copy/paste):

"noun (Australian, informal, derogatory)
a stupid or unfashionable male
an aggressive and surly youth"

So now we can all start using it :D

Project: Recycle CD/DVD Project

1. Open signups 22/05/2016 -- full 10 days to sign up

2. Close signups 01/06/2016 -- by 8 pm MST NOW CLOSED-- Thank you to everyone who has signed up! Woot Woot.. so excited!

3. Project deadline for mailing out to Besame will be July 6, 2016. This will allow for a full 10 days of sign up, and 5 weeks of project time, as well as clearance of the holidays in both countries to get in to the mail. Should be received by July 13 2016. I have given a little extra allowance for shipping as I know Deb/sis project has been shipped and can take 8 weeks from China, so she had hers completed and in the mail before the official announcement.

4. The medium being used must contain either a cd or dvd as a whole, or a fragment of some sort with in the project, other materials used are at the artists chosing. I am totally open and leave each with free reign for their choice & creativity in fact I encourage it. The cd or dvd can be decorated, smashed to bits and used in a mosaic, or as part of a picture, or melted into something else? The options are limitless. If you need some ideas for inspiration see previous posts with links included, or help with some different techniques that are working or not, just ask :) Some of the suggestions can be time consuming, others in an afternoon or a few hours.. IF anyone needs help.. just ask.. id rather help that anyone shy away feeling overwhelmed.

5. Each participant is to make at least one piece for each person on the final sign up list.. 9 people have signed up, please make 8 pieces.. one for each excluding self, unless of course you would like to keep one for your own collection.
If you wish to make more than one piece per person, you are welcome to, however it is not expected. Some like to add little personal touches, and although TOTALLY appreciated and enjoyed, it is not expected.

1. Breathless
2. Besamé
3. Deb
4. clay....................
5. Gemme
6. nycfem / Jennifer
7. GeorgiaMa'am
8. CCB
9. FireSignFemme

6. The theme of the project piece is at the choosing of the artist, as the recycling is expressed in turning the CD into something else.

All typical rules are in play:

"For 2016, the rule is if one of our projects is received by the wrangler more than seven days after the due date, or one of us drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a group project again until January 1st, 2017. No exceptions. This rule applies to participants and to wranglers. This rule must be posted at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project. And for the purposes of clarification, if someone drops out before the deadline to sign up has been closed then they are not excluded from future projects because they are still following the rules."

Please add $5 for repackaging and postage. Besamé will send her address in time for shipping once signups are complete.

Here we go..
1. Breathless
2. Besamé
3. Deb... En route from China.. sent a few weeks ago

All projects should be here July 13th, Wednesday. I will send out my address mid June.

This is exciting! Happy recycling!

candy_coated_bitch 06-02-2016 08:57 AM

Would everyone please specify whether you'd like a necklace or an ornament/ sun catcher. If you don't specify I'll send a necklace.

Breathless 06-02-2016 09:29 AM

sun catcher please.. I have the perfect spot in my office/craft room to hang in window, since it truly is the one space I'm in the most.

Your choice. Surprise me.

FireSignFemme 06-02-2016 10:53 PM

I'm with Gemme on this - either or. If making sun catchers, feeling inspired, you find yourself getting into a zone and want to make more I'll take one of those. Or if you're working on pendants feeling really happy, all tranquil/Zen doing that, no sense shifting gears I'd be happy with a pendent as well. :)

candy_coated_bitch 06-04-2016 02:29 PM

Ok. New plan. Since the greatest number of people have stated either they would prefer a sun catcher or have no preference in just going to make life easier on myself and make all sun catchers!!! Thanks to everyone who answered.

CD/DVD recycle project

Hey Everyone!!!
Just checking in to see how the projects are coming along? Have you started? Are you still thinking of what direction to go? Need more ideas?

Extra little recycling tidbit.. for any of those people who paint, do you ever buy those really expensive gold foil? If you are peeling the silver off the cd's to use them.. save your self some $$ and save some flecks of silver.. just a thought...

4 weeks till last day of mailing!!

Okay, I've had some delays, but it finally came to me what I'm going to do with recycled DVDs! It came to me all at once last night when I was trying to fall asleep. It's a medium I've worked with before, so no learning curve there. And it will be lots of fun to do! And I think everyone will like them - I hope. I picked out my supplies online and I'm going to pick them up tomorrow evening!

I'm not saying what they are, but I will tell you I'm using the color palette for Fall 2016 fashion colors.

Breathless 06-23-2016 07:27 PM

Well Ms. Georgia, Ma'am, You have peaked my curiosities! Whatever you have in mind, I am quite sure will be euphoric, and as delightful as yourself :)
*grinzzz*

My first CDs did NOT go according to plan and i am panicking. I can't afford to buy more CDs and I'm panicking. Any ideas? I might have to use half CDs for whatever I do but I'm clueless now. Help!

Breathless 06-25-2016 01:11 PM

Don't panic ;-) what were you trying to do and what happened?
I was trying to make mosaic tiles and burned holes through my first set .. It was stinky

I was trying to melt them and they did not melt well. My original idea definitely won't work. I can tell you that after two tries.

Sounds like the same problem I had. So with the exception of burnt to a crisp .. And maybe even then, I say smash it. Do you have resin or clay? Some sort of binding? Smash the glass like pieces and reform maybe ? Or even affix the pieces to something, even firm paper or bottle caps? If you need more ideas let me know ;-) this is not meant to be a costly project so please don't feel you need to purchase anything extra to do this. The smallest fragment of the cd in each project is the only requirement.
