I’m prepping food for the week so it will be either stuffed poblano peppers or baked chicken with sautéed veggies.

Its Harvest (what my family calls Thanksgiving - because its traditionally about HARVEST time - the crops coming in and celebrating with food, with the community people do it in many different countries). So Turkey, Tofu Loaf (for the vegans/vegetarians), stuffing, veggies, Miso gravy/Turkey gravy, mash potato.
For desert there is apple pie and pumpkin pie

The things I like best about it is

1) its "orphans" Harvest, meaning lots of old colleagues of Dad's come, some of my step mum's friends, my mum comes (they are still friends), and any of my friends that want to come. Its usually about 20 people.

2) because so many people have IBS/Colitis/Celiac there are 2 different types of stuffing, 2 different types of pie, lactose free alternatives, and also vegan/vegetarian offerings.

3) everyone gets along - no one is right wing. We are all socialists save maybe 2 or 3 people and they are leftists (not centrists) so there is very little bullshit to put up with. Just the dementia stuff from mum now and in large groups mum is very quiet.

I look forward to Winter Solstice and Harvest dinners because of this. :)

Happy Harvest Everyone!

We were away for the long weekend, but Pete is visiting her mother so I am making potato soup and spaetzle.

candy_coated_bitch 10-08-2018 05:05 PM

Cheese dip and tortilla chips.

girl_dee 10-08-2018 06:10 PM

Wings and brussel sprouts

I had a big bowl of New England Clam Chowder or Chowda! with crackers. A sweet tea to drink.

I went to my son's place for dinner. His gf made breaded pork chops which she soaked in pineapple juice, let marinate for awhile before breading them. It sounded horrible but they were actually quite good. She served fresh spinach pasta with an Alfredo sauce which she made herself with a pasta making kit my son recently bought her for her birthday. I would not like that for my birthday but she was thrilled with it. Since my son really likes Brussels sprouts she also served those, not home cooked, frozen from a Green Giant bag. I was skeptical when I saw her nuke them in the microwave, in the bag they came in, but they tasted great. They were nicely pre seasoned, surprisingly weren't mushy, and didn't stink up the house since they only had to be warmed not cooked. We had milk and water to drink. Afterwards just coffee no dessert because we were all too stuffed. I took most of mine home and there are enough left overs for two meals out of it. Wow! When she cooks she really cooks!

I had chicken and cranberry juice and an apple and an orange.

Had a procedure today where I had to be put to sleep and couldn’t eat so needless to say was starving. Made my mom stop on the way home (had to be driven home) and got a big ass burger and fries. Yup sure did. And man it was good.

My honey brought me Thai curry and Tom yum soup since I’m sick with a head cold.

I cannot say how much I’ve missed Thai in general. The spice was so nice. I could actually taste my food....

I baked a spaghetti squash and once it was done and cooled a bit I scraped it and sautéed the strands in some olive oil with kosher salt, fresh ground pepper and some nutritional yeast.

The potato soup was delicious, but the spaetzle experiment resulted in undercooked little lumps.

I made corn salsa, a la Chipotle, pineapple salsa, a la some place we ate last week, and pickled red onions. Pete just hobbled out to buy dried pinto beans.

Guess what we’re serving our vegan friends tomorrow?

Pizza and a garden salad. Waiting on a delivery from a place that’s new to me. I’m famished. Hope it’s as good as the reviews indicate.

Irregular Jelly Bellies. Cheaper and just as good, unfortunately. I was soooo close to being completely healthy when they started calling my name.

These yummy peppers, compliments of Costco and the InstantPot

Ceviche and chips
Jalapeno margarita.

Happy hour in Laguna Beach. I'm sitting on the patio, watching traffic (so sad for them, lol)
I have a perfect view of the setting sun between palm trees. Oh yes, this is the stuff vacations are made of.

There will be a stop at the gelato shop later.
( I have hit my step tracker and then some today)

JDeere 10-15-2018 07:56 PM

I had a very late lunch and my stomach isn't cooperating so gonna lay off food unless I really get hungry. My stomach has shrunk some so I don't eat as much but I have heartburn bad, it was a foot long spicy Italian with no chip just a drink.
