cheese and pepperoni bagel bites
quart of butter milk to drink

Orema 10-16-2018 04:07 AM

Last night was ham and brussel sprouts. So glad I did food prepping this weekend for 4 breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Makes life easier when I’m swamped at work.

My Dad used to badger my sister and I into trying new things (food) when we were young (under 10), things like fried onions and broccoli. One day after we had refused once again to try his precious buttermilk, he added nestle quick to a glass, and asked me if I wanted chocolate milk...I took a drink, and spit it all back into his glass!

Nasty stuff, nasty nasty stuff. Lolololololl

Maybe you just haven't tried buttermilk with the right food. It's delicious with a warm piece of cornbread (real cornbread, that is, not that Jiffy stuff).

My sister would drink buttermilk straight up when we were kids! She didn't even need any food to really enjoy it I guess!

That's how my mom would drink it, too. I like to dunk mine with cornbread. So good.

It's too sour to drink straight up for folks like me with a sweet tooth. It's best for baking.

Buttermilk biscuits. Pancakes too.

*drool*

My mom loved it but she also loved pickled pigs feet so take that with a grain of salt.

heartbeet salad-sauteed, sweet potato crinkled cuts & shaved brussel sprouts on a bed of romaine lettuce, cucumber, purple onion. Sliced pickled beets on top with Thousand Island(homemade)
sourdough garlic toast:byebye:

Mine would use buttermilk in some cake recipes, too. She didn’t eat pigs feet but would roast or bake them for my dad and sister.

I’d pass on the feet, but would enjoy a small bowl of chit’lin’s with a little hot sauce. Maybe I’ll order some for the New Year.

I did not like buttermilk when I was a child. I could not get past the thought I was drinking old, soured milk. Later, as an adult, I had to acquire appreciation of it.

I like it best straight, just like regular milk ... get it really good and cold, chug it! Also, it is great for indigestion ... coats better than regular milk.

Never tried pigs feet on purpose. I did eat frog legs once by accident. I was tricked. A bunch of us had been out on the river skiing and drinking all day. We ended up at a party that night which served lots of freshly cooked food. I was wolfing frog legs when I started noticing my friends snickering. They were delicious, tasted like chicken. Who could know? I was side-winding drunk, told it was chicken and had no reason to doubt. When I realized the truth, I turned away from the group and the mouthful went into a napkin. It was over --->>> never to be revisited again. Makes my stomach flip just thinking about it. Ugh! And every once in a while, I run into someone who starts out with, "Remember that day when we were all drunk at the river ..." LOL!

I don't get the whole 'can't eat it anymore even though I liked it' thing. I do get the whole 'oh, Hell no I'm not eating that!' without having ever tried it thing. If I eat something and I like it, I'll eat it again, regardless of what it is.

One of my high school teachers had a secret pot luck buffet in class one time. He asked all of us to bring in a dish that most people would not eat or something most people would not have heard of before. He brought a dish too....chili. Except the meat was lion. He was former MP and had contacts all over the world and managed to get some despite it being illegal. I brought tripe. So disgusting and most people hadn't heard of it. There was rattlesnake (saltwatery) and dolphin (fish not mammal-eh, not my favorite) and a slew of other stuff. I tried everything except what I brought because I knew I hated it.

Dinner was technically chicken salad with pecans and cranberries inside it on yummy multigrain Club crackers and water to drink.

Last night was:

Organic butternut squash ravioli from Costco with....

Sautéed onions
Baby peas
Sliced portobellos
A light vodka sauce
Shaved parmigiana

Omg, yumbolicious!

My plan was Pistachio Pesto Crusted Salmon. I got to the grocery and I didn't know how much fresh basil and parsley I needed to buy to make 1 1/2 C of each. :(

It can be tricky! Here's a calculation page.

Stuffed red bell pepper and sour cream

RockOn 10-17-2018 06:54 PM

bowl of tomato bisque soup with saltines, root beer to drink ... I've not had that soup in a long time --->>> it was delicious :)

JDeere 10-17-2018 08:48 PM

Bratwurst, long grain and wild rice, steamed mixed veggies. Ice tea to drink.

Gemme 10-18-2018 06:02 AM

I had an open faced sandwich with a Mediterranean chickpea burger on naan and a salad.

Thank you, G! I tried to make this for dinner this evening:

The salmon was good but the pistachio pesto not so much. Someone made it for me a few years ago and it was wonderful. Unfortunately, I didn't do so well.
