the story of the Crane Wife, from which the album is titled, is an old Japanese tale of a poor rural man who finds a wounded crane on his doorstep one day, takes it in and nurses it back to health. After releasing the crane, a woman appears at his home. They fall in love and are married. Because they are poor, the woman offers to weave clothes out of silk that they can sell, but only if he agrees never to watch her make them. They become wealthy and the man makes her weave more and more, not realizing that his wife is becoming sick. He peeks in one day to see what makes the silk so special, and discovers that a crane is at the loom, plucking her feathers and weaving them into the cloth. Seeing him, she flies away never to return.

WELCOME HOME, ME...

*One of my favorite Richie Havens songs: Just Like a Woman. (WHO can blame me???!!! And most know this is a Dylan song, right?)

:fishswim:

But, this starts out with another song and morphs into that song... LOVE both songs and their lyrics.

I love acoustic guitar and especially RHYTHM guitar - Havens is one of the best for that! No doubt. Richie started out in the basement pubs of the Lower East Side of Manhattan. (Hello, my fellow "New Yorkers"!) COOL FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO MAY HAVE GOTTEN TO SEE HIM THERE at that time.

PEACE AND LOVE

Sad...

Bummer about Lena.

I didn't know - saw this post of yours Cycloea... then noticed a thread had been started about her.

Yes, R.I.P. beautiful, beautiful woman - and spirit. Talk about being so wonderfully magical in the face of adversity and ugly times historically - regarding people's "rights" (or LACK OF).

:rose:

*Thank you lady, for sharing your gift of talent and beauty. (This is where I am so grateful for film and song/music - she will be with us forever, if not in our hearts anyway, regardless... :stillheart:)

My apologies...

Again, Just Like A Woman... I was so excited seeing Richie that I didn't catch the "snip" from the early clip I posted - during this - the second of the two songs. Anyway, this version is the very exact one that I have. I LOVE the rhythm and the piano accompaniment here (very pretty), and of course his guitar work, effortless as it is and as natural as the sun rising. (Oh, and the snares on the drums, on and on...)

Please, enjoy - not much for the visual with the video here. Well, it shows happiness. I had always only heard this song anyway, until I saw that old BBC video yesterday.

And when I hear this song I want to be "in love"! Oui!! All that comes with that... :heartbeat:

Here are three of the biggest voices back in the day.
They are the incredible:

Al Hibbler
Billy Eckstine
Joe Williams

The three made music history with these songs:

After the Lights Go Down Low

My Foolish Heart

Every Day I Have the Blues

Enjoy!
