I have an idea for a new project....
what about face masks? Think Mardi Gras, masquerade mask (50 Shades). Of course not a real size but a scaled down version. Let me know if this subject appeals to anyone, I can put out some specifics later, if we want to do this. |

Ok, a few more details...
I'm thinking the size of your cell phone. ( as I look at my phone, I know everyone's is different, so size stats could come later) The pic I posted looks 3D, ours could be flat, if you choose. Just cut out eyes to look mask-like. Materials to use, paper, stickers, colors, glitter(rules will follow for glitter use), beads, buttons, what ever you wanted. I've seen fancy masks, masks that look abstract, animal looking, etc...all kinds. Timeframe..3 weeks or so? This is just a general list of details...I can do more specific write up later. Still interested??? |
I'm interested. We did masks once before as part of decorating for a BFP reunion and they were one of the best projects ever! I'd love to do them again. I'd like to be able to use the pre-made masks from Michael's or wherever and decorate them OR homemade if the person desires (wants to save on costs, etc.). I like the cell phone size idea. I'd like if glitter has to be sealed if used because I really can't stand glitter getting over me when I open a package. I'm thinking it might be nice to have a full month to work on since they can take awhile, just a thought. I had totally forgotten about masks as a project and how much fun they were to decorate and look forward to the idea of doing them again!

Does anywhere carry small masks around the size of a cell phone you just have to decorate?

Clay, what a great idea- Oriental Trading. They always have everything. I looked under "DIY masks" and found cool options. CCB, by cell phone sized, I think what Besame means is "half masks" -just the eyes vs. the whole face and also they couldn't get so wild that they are huge, lol. I do think any big chain local craft store would have these masks.

I love "Tommi projects" too- so hopefully Tommi will be back anytime to wrangle. I think it's too late for Valentine's Day given the date, though. Unless it was a general "love themed" project or something not due by Valentine's Day!

Important FYI on masks when ordering....
The Oriental Trading Company has several designs for the DIY half masks.
I LOVED the idea of getting the 4 differing designs, BUT as my sweetheart noticed & mentioned...these designs have the raised bridge of nose in them....so will make for difficulty shipping these designs AND would have to be shipped in boxes to keep their shapes...so the overall shape & design is going to be an important factor in choosing which ones to decorate. When the guidelines are posted, this should be a consideration so far as expense & shipping goes. We have ordered the 24 pack of the plain flat ones, just for this reason....24 was $4.79 or so.... Just offering some helpful FYI....:) |
Find a mask and wear it well. So your true identity no one can tell. Yay! New project! Get your creativity flowing. Let's make masquerade masks! Your theme is your desire. Create one from the start or use a pre-cut one. The size should not be much bigger than 6x3. One should be made for each person who signs up. Use any material you wish. Please take inconsideration the cost of mailing. I'll be asking for a dollar for each mask made to cover postage. Example, you make 3, it's $3 for mailing. 5 is $5.00, 7 is $7.00. You get the idea. Just watch the sign up list and include postage accordingly. There will be a disclaimer.... If you choose to use glitter, which is allowed, please secure the glitter from spreading, by putting each one into a zip lock baggy. So find, the glue, stickers, stamps, jewels, beads, feathers, ribbons, and anything you find in that craft box! Time frame, 4 weeks. Due Feb 28th, and they will be late if not received by March 8th. ****please refer to the 2017 craft rules regarding due dates. It's in full view on post #5875, dated 11-3-16.
