I'm not sure either what exactly the project is, but I've been waiting to jump in on something I think I could handle...

Soft*Silver 05-05-2017 11:45 PM

I think I remember doing this project years ago. I might be interested in participating if i could learn more about it.

Gemme 05-06-2017 05:00 AM

I was thinking of having an open topic and just giving you size and material parameters but allowing the subject to be up to the participants. If that's not preferred, I would offer a more specific theme.

There's a lot of gray area with rounds like this, but that can be part of the fun. You can really let your imagination go wild and free.

I think it would be great for newbies to get their feet wet!

I believe it was one of the triptych projects, if my memory holds.

Hmmmm....sending us a common denomination for a project sounds very interesting.

Here is an idea to throw out...have us go find what you want..example...use the words, title, picture of page 34 of whatever magazine.

The wrapper off of something

The resident address of junk mail

Something common that we can all get our hands on, no matter what part of the country we are in.

Just food for thought...

Soft*Silver 05-06-2017 09:15 AM

ok I am in. I have been wanting to do a project. My creative mind needs stroked..lol

These are great ideas, but I wouldn't want my "resident address" label on a project...that is just my own thoughts...

For me, having all the ephemera come with is very appealing. I am "betwixt & between" for the moment....so having little to NO crafting supplies, getting them in one package is great for me...anyway, just my thoughts....

I think that there is merit in this but I want to give everyone the EXACT same supplies so that everyone is starting out with the same foundation. Same colors, same materials, same brads, same ribbon, same papers, etc.

Now....there does seem to be some interest and I am totally stoked about that, so if no one has any issues with me moving forward, I would like to do so.

Anyone not want to proceed?

nanners 05-06-2017 07:53 PM

It sounds like fun,
I want to do it, but I really have to skip the next project or two...I am having surgery on my left wrist to have a tendon released on the 15th of this month, so I can't trust I'd ever get done in time...just so y'all know what's going on when you don't hear from me for a bit.

Lyte 05-06-2017 10:50 PM

I'd like to participate but I'm totally lost as to the project. Umm... what are we doing?? :p

With this, I'd send a package to everyone that signs up. There would be additional time in order for the package to arrive. Once everyone has their packages, the work part of it would kick in with the usual 4-ish weeks of time to complete and return to me to redistribute.

At this time, I have a theme in mind if the open theme idea scares folks. Sometimes having too much freedom can be overwhelming.

I will say that I've thought more about Besame's idea of a scavenger hunt project and I'm loving that too, but I would list things like include at least: 1 piece of washi tape, some ribbon, a button and the color blue, for example, instead of the initial ideas (though I know she was just pfa'ing it).

If the majority would prefer that style, then we can certainly do that as it's similar in nature to what I initially suggested.

Can I get a show of hands for each project, please?

snipped part of Gemme's post

I vote for the same package, same ingredients, & such for this project and all of my craft supplies are packed up & will be for next few months. I DO have some glue, some sand, and a few embellishments & stickers with me now. So, a pre packaged deal would be awesome for me. Plus I would like to see each one's individual interpretations for the identical ingredients.

I would like to add that maybe each of us chip in a couple extra bucks to the $5 we usually send, as Gemme One is packaging & mailing these items twice! Just my own humble opine...:)

BTW...what is "pfa'ing" it mean...(totally clueless butch here...:]

Soft*Silver 05-07-2017 09:12 AM

I am SO STROKED out!!!

I vote for one theme, one identical package!

nanners 05-07-2017 09:26 AM

I've been thinking,
if Gemme sends out what we need to do this project I may participate...I will be with Clay at the end of the month and Clay will be with me most of the summer so I have help if I need it. So, with that said I vote for one where Gemme sends us the ingredients.

Bèsame* 05-07-2017 10:39 AM

ha ha I got the pfa part!!

I'm game for which is ever easiest to wrangle up. Same as theme or open theme...I can run with either.

The only wish I would like...do we have to use everything? Not a prob
Can I add to it? That's what I would like!

nycfem 05-07-2017 11:52 AM

Here are my votes. I prefer:

-to receive all the items that we need in the package.

- to have the scavenger hunt be a totally different projects because it seems like a project itself and a cool one!

- to include a few extra bucks for mailing since it's a two-time mailing project.

- to have an open theme with an optional specific theme for those who care to use it.

- to be able to add whatever we want to the project.

No, you would not need to use everything. I'd give you a percentage of the items to use and yes, you can add to it.

Bonus points and a surprise pressie to anyone that does use all of the materials without adding additional materials, because this stuff is going to be random as all get out and doing that will take some Hella skill.

Totes.

Okay, folks, I'll get to putting the outline together as the sign up will be fast and furious so I can get the stuff packaged and sent out. It will be up either tonight or tomorrow.

If Breathless is still interested, I will send her package out sooner so it has a head start so those pesky customs people won't hold her up too much. Breathless, let me know asap so I can do that, please.

Pre-Packaged Project

Welcome to the Inclusive/Pre-Packaged/All in One /Goodies to Go/Whatever You Want to Call It Project of Spring 2017!

Quantity: one for each person that signs up minus yourself

Theme: "Open" if you want flexibility. You will be free to choose the direction of your pieces. They may all be the same or different. This is your creativity; express it! If you'd rather have a set theme, then go with "Windows". Interpret it as you see fit. There is no wrong way, as it's all relative.

Instructions: Once you receive the package of goodies from me, pull everything out and see what you can do with it. You MUST use at least 25% of the items sent to you. You may use more if you'd wish but 25% is the minimum requirement. You may add your own embellishments and materials as long as the original materials are still 25% or more of the whole piece.

There will be special prizes for anyone who uses 100% of the goodies sent out.

Parameters: Total size of each piece is not to exceed 5x7. Smaller is fine. You must use at least 25% of the pieces/items/goodies mailed to you. You may use your own theme or choose the suggested theme of Windows if you are in the mood for a challenge. You MUST show what you used. You can do this by writing it on the back of the piece in addition to your screen name or write it on a separate piece of paper/cardstock/cardboard/etc. Each recipient should have a list of what you used in your piece to them. You are welcome to choose specific pieces for individuals (mark them accordingly, please) otherwise I will choose who gets what.

Dates to Remember:

Signup: 5/07/17 to 5/13/17
Packages mailed to participants: 5/15/17
*assuming a week for mailing*
Deadline for finished projects to be in my grubby little hands: 6/19/17
Officially late, and on the naughty list, if not received on/by 6/26/17.
Completed projects will be mailed out no later than 6/29/17

Send $10.00 with your projects to cut the cost of the two mailings, please. More if your pieces are especially bulky or heavy.

If your name is not listed below, you are not a participant. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO SIGN UP. Even if you expressed interest in the thread, it does not count if you are not officially signed up. Also, please be very careful to make sure you're not cutting someone off the list. Always copy the most recent posted list before adding your name.

"For 2017, the rule is if one of our projects is received by the wrangler more than seven days after the due date, or one of us drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a group project again until six months from the latest date that the project was supposed to be due. No exceptions. This rule applies to participants and to wranglers. Wranglers must mail out projects within one week of the latest date that the projects were supposed to be due. In addition to waiting six months before being able to join a penpal project, the person who has not met the latest deadline must post directly on the penpal thread within a week of missing the latest deadline stating that they have not adhered to the deadline (reason is welcome to be included or does not have to be) and, most importantly, the date on which they will be able to return to participating in the penpal projects. They must scroll back and add themselves to the bottom of the list of any other participants who have not met the late date for any project for 2017. If that is not done, then the member is welcome to participate in the thread with "thanks" and reps and thread chat but not to participate in any future projects for 2017. The reason for this is personal responsibility, so that we have a running record right on the thread that is easy to refer back to when needed. And for the purposes of clarification, if someone drops out before the deadline to sign up has been closed then they are not excluded from future projects because they are still following the rules.

Example: Bitsy misses the late date for a project. Within a week of that late date she must scroll down and find the most recent list of people who have missed the late date in 2017 and copy that list to a new post and add herself. Bitsy's post would look something like this:

'Sorry, I had the bird flu and missed the late date of 2/14/17. I can start participating in new projects on 8/14/17. I have added myself to the list below:

1. Tony (missed the late date of 1/28/17, able to participate 7/28/17)
2. Bitsy (missed the late date of 2/14/17, able to participate 8/14/17)'

This rule must be posted in its entirety at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project."

Sorry, I am having a lot pf personal problems right now and missed the late date of 5/7/16. I can start participating in projects 11/7/14. I have added myself to the list below:

1. CCB (missed late date of 5/7/16 able to participate 11/7/16)

I'm looking forward to reading all the posts on this current project and can't wait till they begin..:hangloose:

Are you sure? Almost everything you would need would be mailed to you. All you have to do is get creative about how you put it together.

Bèsame* 05-07-2017 08:45 PM

Just wondering...for example, you mentioned, "blue button" and 10 people sign up, your sending 10 buttons?

Or...washi tape. Use 25% of a piece that measures 3 inches, your sending 30 inches?

Is $10 enough?

lol.. Literal people surround me!!!!! I would assume that it is more like 25% of all items, rather than down to the inch measurements of each individual item.. as how would you use 25% of a button??

My costs will likely run over that but I would feel weird asking for more.

When I mentioned 'blue button', etc I was talking about how I'd do the scavenger project, although that's not to say buttons won't be in the package I send out.

You hit the nail on the head. At least 25% of each total piece should come from the supplies I send out.

I will decide by the deadline whether or not to join in this one. I usually want to have some kind of idea of what I'm going to do before I sign up, but that's impossible this time, not knowing what the supplies will be! On the other hand, I had planned to take a break this go round, but this one sounds like so much fun, I might just have to sign up anyway. Hmmmmmmm . . . as I said, I will decide closer to the sign up deadline.

Just a reminder to all on this thread that if asked by another member for someone's name or address, it should ONLY be given out by the member themselves. If someone loses someone's information, that person must ask for it from the member directly. Don't ever give out someone else's personal information. If someone says they can't get in touch and needs the information right away, too bad. Just a friendly reminder, as it's easy to forget it is a violation to, even innocently, give out someone else's personal information.

Now back to the fun :)

nycfem 05-08-2017 10:54 PM

We love having responsible newbies join us! Please tell us more about yourself, what drew you to this thread and about your interests in crafts and penpal-ing :). Also, if you have any questions for us, please do not hesitate to ask.
