Hi, one of my pieces is going to have an Easter theme. If you would be open to receiving this piece, please put a "thanks" on this post. If you would prefer not to receive this piece, then simply DO NOT put a "thanks" on this post.

nycfem 05-20-2017 12:21 PM

Hello, pardon my multiple posts. I just would like to designate as best I can given the variety of themes I'm doing for this project. Please feel free to put "thanks" on every topic I list that you would be open to receiving. For this post it is Halloween sooooo:

Oooh, creative! Love this! I'm open to anything you deem appropriate for me. I love your stuff, girl.

I received my package today! I had to quickly hide it tho, for the grand child was here and she was ooooo and aawwwwing over the stuff just like I was...and I didnt want to share! LOL

I am going to go thru it tonight!

GeorgiaMa'am 05-20-2017 05:38 PM

I got my package today, too! Honestly, I'm a little overwhelmed. I will have to meditate on these objects and hope for some inspiration to come by.

You are reading my mind, lol. I have been sick with an upper respiratory infection and so I worked on them all day today. Then I was writing up my process, and my first paragraph was:

"When I first received everything and laid it all out, I felt super nervous. I remember I had that same feeling when Amiyesiam did this project way back! It is scary not to be in control and easy to feel overwhelmed! There are new textures and objects that I am not used to working with, so I think, “Should I have signed up for this!”

***

Rest assured: It gets better and ends up actually being a ton of fun!

Oh, I'm so jealous! I still think about Amiyesiam's project as one of my all time favorites. I'm sure that Gemme's supplies are equally intriguing. It's so interesting to see how everyone uses the same supplies in such different ways.

You all should have seen the floor of my living room when I was putting it all together.

Madness!!!

You both have good ideas here. What I did with ami's project was to lay everything out in front of me and to group like things together, whatever my version of 'like' was....color, 'type' of supply, stuff I already use/am familiar with versus the non-familiar, etc.

That brought it down from a smorgasbord buffet to plate sized portions, so to speak, and I was able to see more clearly what items I would be using versus what I would not.

Remember, you don't have to use everything. Only 25% of each of your pieces need to be from these supplies. More is fine, of course, but not less. You can do any sized pieces as long as it's no larger than 5x7. If you choose to use one of the papers as the background, that's a big portion of the piece already.

The important thing is not to overthink things and to try to look at things in new ways. You have some items that you only have one of and, if you make identical pieces, that would be hard to do so you have to think about how to replicate that piece. You could make copies of it with a printer/scanner or use the first item as a template for the other pieces and color it in the same. Some items I sent out were not designed to make it into the final pieces but to be used as tools to help you with techniques and to give you ideas. Some things will wind up on the cutting floor and that's okay. Not everything will work and that's okay.

I want you to think but no so much that your brain hurts. Go with whatever attracts you and have fun. This is an awesome group of participants and I know this is going to be crazy creative in the end.

amiyesiam 05-21-2017 01:32 PM

Good to see you Purepisces!

Totally Halloween Jen!

I am going to work soon. I have 7 zip lock bags and Gemmes bag of goodies. I am going to divide stuff up how I think/want them to go together and put stuff in the 7 bags. This is step one. Step two comes later. Maybe step two will be assign each bag a name!

nycfem 05-21-2017 07:49 PM

It sounds like you all are having a great time with this, wishing I had had the bandwidth to participate in this because it sounds fun.

I just received my twinchies project.. and wow.. I think this is my favourite thus far.. so much colour and creativity from everyone!! I love it .. and think this is going to end up framed in my art room!! Thank you everyone!
Gemme, still havent receive the envelope, would you mind tracking it please, I can handle receiving it last minute but I would need to plan for it: ie actually take a much needed night off work. Just trying to balance with moving at the same time. So please let me know.. thanks!

I can only track it to the Canadian border. Once it crosses over, I lose it. This is what I found.

"Your item was processed through a facility in CANADA on May 18, 2017 at 9:42 pm. The item is currently in transit to the destination. "

It sounds like it's on your side, so that's as far as I can track but it should be soon now!

I apologize for not seeing the message in time to send my address for the craft project. I was really looking forward to it but I came down with pneumonia and I was not in any condition to be online or even out of bed. Now that I have gone through a round of antibiotics I am finally starting to feel a little more like myself. I feel awful for missing out though and I have to admit my feelings are hurt that everyone thought the worst of me :( It was not intentional at all.

I understand feeling sick and not being up to par. Unfortunately, after years of doing these projects, we had to come up with a set of rules to keep things moving smoothly and to be as fair as possible. Everyone that signs up is held to the same time frames and standards.

Per the rules posted, you will be able to participate in future projects, but not until November. I do hope that you'll sign up again. I'd love to see what you come up with.

I'm glad you are feeling better now.

3 down 4 to go

I spent the afternoon crafting and now have three of the seven projects complete. Yahoo! An added challenge was the fact I can't find any of my adhesive tape or glue except glue stick. When I'm next out and about, I'll stop at a craft store and pick some better adhesive stuff up.

❤️ & 🎨

Lyte 05-27-2017 09:47 PM

I ventured to Hobby Lobby today... not my usual stomping grounds... looking for ideas. Fair warning y'all I have never decoupaged in my life! Hmm! Iol

Try Michael's for the future if you can because Hobby Lobby is anti-LGBT. That's awesome going to a craft store for ideas- that always gets me kinda excited! I also tried things for this project that I haven't before. It's good to challenge ourselves and gain a wider repertoire in the process!

Also wanted to add: Youtube videos are super helpful when you are trying things for the first time!

Lyte 05-28-2017 10:44 AM

Thanks for the insight. I knew Hobby was anti-abortion but didn't know bout the LGBT. Is Michael's pro or neutral? Sadly, damn near everything in TX is anti-everything. :(

YouTube is a good idea. Next time! Thanks!

Concerning

"... I feel awful for missing out though and I have to admit my feelings are hurt that everyone thought the worst of me."

I didn't think the worst of you, stuff happens. So when you speak of everyone thinking the worst of you, that's an incorrect assumption/statement on your part, because I didn't and I'm someone too.

Breathless 05-28-2017 07:04 PM

I still have not received, I will check with the post office when they open tomorrow if it is not delivered in the am.

Welcome to the Inclusive/Pre-Packaged/All in One /Goodies to Go/Whatever You Want to Call It Project of Spring 2017!

Quantity: one for each person that signs up minus yourself (unless you want to make one for yourself, which you totally can)

Theme: "Open" if you want flexibility. You will be free to choose the direction of your pieces. They may all be the same or different. This is your creativity; express it! If you'd rather have a set theme, then go with "Windows". Interpret it as you see fit. There is no wrong way, as it's all relative.

Instructions: Once you receive the package of goodies from me, pull everything out and see what you can do with it. You MUST use at least 25% of the items sent to you. You may use more if you'd wish but 25% is the minimum requirement. You may add your own embellishments and materials as long as the original materials are still 25% or more of the whole piece.

There will be special prizes for anyone who uses 100% of the goodies sent out.

Parameters: Total size of each piece is not to exceed 5x7. Smaller is fine. You must use at least 25% of the pieces/items/goodies mailed to you. You may use your own theme or choose the suggested theme of Windows if you are in the mood for a challenge. You MUST show what you used. You can do this by writing it on the back of the piece in addition to your screen name or write it on a separate piece of paper/cardstock/cardboard/etc. Each recipient should have a list of what you used in your piece to them. You are welcome to choose specific pieces for individuals (mark them accordingly, please) otherwise I will choose who gets what.

Dates to Remember:

Signup: 5/07/17 to 5/13/17 (CLOSED)
Packages mailed to participants: 5/17/17
Deadline for finished projects to be in my grubby little hands: 6/19/17
Officially late, and on the naughty list, if not received on/by 6/26/17.
Completed projects will be mailed out no later than 6/29/17

Send $10.00 with your projects to cut the cost of the two mailings, please. More if your pieces are especially bulky or heavy and, unfortunately, more for outside the US (sorry, Breathless).

*NOTE* I have pushed back the mail out date for the US to give customs a little longer to push Breathless' through. It's a day and a half difference.

"For 2017, the rule is if one of our projects is received by the wrangler more than seven days after the due date, or one of us drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a group project again until six months from the latest date that the project was supposed to be due. No exceptions. This rule applies to participants and to wranglers. Wranglers must mail out projects within one week of the latest date that the projects were supposed to be due. In addition to waiting six months before being able to join a penpal project, the person who has not met the latest deadline must post directly on the penpal thread within a week of missing the latest deadline stating that they have not adhered to the deadline (reason is welcome to be included or does not have to be) and, most importantly, the date on which they will be able to return to participating in the penpal projects. They must scroll back and add themselves to the bottom of the list of any other participants who have not met the late date for any project for 2017. If that is not done, then the member is welcome to participate in the thread with "thanks" and reps and thread chat but not to participate in any future projects for 2017. The reason for this is personal responsibility, so that we have a running record right on the thread that is easy to refer back to when needed. And for the purposes of clarification, if someone drops out before the deadline to sign up has been closed then they are not excluded from future projects because they are still following the rules.

Example: Bitsy misses the late date for a project. Within a week of that late date she must scroll down and find the most recent list of people who have missed the late date in 2017 and copy that list to a new post and add herself. Bitsy's post would look something like this:

'Sorry, I had the bird flu and missed the late date of 2/14/17. I can start participating in new projects on 8/14/17. I have added myself to the list below:

1. Tony (missed the late date of 1/28/17, able to participate 7/28/17)
2. Bitsy (missed the late date of 2/14/17, able to participate 8/14/17)'

This rule must be posted in its entirety at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project."

Sorry, I am having a lot pf personal problems right now and missed the late date of 5/7/16. I can start participating in projects 11/7/14. I have added myself to the list below:

1. CCB (missed late date of 5/7/16 able to participate 11/7/16)

I really hope everyone has fun with this project. I've had to reign myself in quite a bit because it gets expensive sending out enough for this many folks to have the EXACT same goodies but I think I have a collection that is going to make you scratch your head and wonder wth I was thinking as well as give a sigh of relief when you see that there are some really useful and fun things in the package.

Again, you MUST use AT LEAST 25% of the WHOLE package of goodies in your projects and you MUST write how you did so. You can do that on separate paper or on the back of each piece. I think it will really give some creative insight for the one who receives the piece.

Also, please keep in mind this is more time intensive and costly, so send funds accordingly with your packages back to me.

I look forward to seeing what everyone does!!!

Happy crafting, penpallers!

You are so good to me, J!

And y'all, I got the first package in from Lyte this morning. Holy cronuts, people! These are fantastic!

Lyte, you are right; they are bigger than the size requirement but I love the concept!!! You did a great job and I really appreciate taking the size/weight into consideration when sending your postage.

You all are going to be so psyched when you get these!!!! They are beautiful and very creative. You did a great job.

I'm super excited about seeing everyone's else's ideas as well.

Lyte 06-08-2017 11:12 AM

I'm first?! Woo hoo!! :fastdraq:

I screwed the pooch and picked the wrong size?! Yeah... I did... sorry 'bout that. :praying:

They're not half bad??? *mic drop* :byebye: lol

Thanks Gem! :) Since you're the mighty Wrangler, you get to choose whichever one you want. Since I don't know everyone I figured I'd let you assign the rest as you think best or let it be random!

But it wasn't by much at all, so no harm and no foul that way. They are hefty though, which I kind of love. Sturdy lil suckers!

They are great!

I'll have to repackage them because I did peek at them all and love the diversity.

Time's a tickin'. I'm super excited to see what you all have been working so diligently on. Yay!!!

Finished!

This project was definitely a challenge for me. I really wanted to use everything in some way, but ended up not being able to fit two of the items in. I had a couple ideas I wasn't able to execute because I'm not completely unpacked yet and couldn't find what I needed. So, I had to get a little creative. I tried some new things and went out of my comfort zone a bit and ended up with a few I really like and most that are sorta so-so. I will get these in the mail hopefully tomorrow, Gemme.

I received ami's yesterday and they. are. gorgeous. I love your work, ami, and you totally went out of the box on so many of these pieces. What I might do, if you don't mind, is repackage them in larger Ziplocks, as a couple of the bags ripped and don't fit well inside. I also love that you sent back the list of items sent you to as you used them. That's an easy way to let others know what you used and how you used it.

Lyte, I missed that part in your projects. I could be blind. I do need a new prescription and my optometrist said I could be a candidate for eye surgery so I might just be missing it, but I didn't see this part of the project. Let me know where the break down is, please.

Excellent work, so far! I am soooo stoked to see what everyone else comes up with. The work in the two packages I've received so far has been so different and creative. Way to go, penpallers!
