we will not discuss my level of confusion while figuring this out
we still need Rains and hopefully it will arrive today!!!!

ami - I loved your project, too! I think we should make it an annual event.

So, I'm ready for our next project ... is Jake wrangling this one? What's our theme?!? Inquiring minds want to know. :)

Wrangling Happening...yo right here.

Good Morning Everyone,

Here is My idea for a project. I the theme is Trees and Water. I would like every to take a 4X6 index card (colored)... and make that card into a scene that you remember from your childhood. The only rule is that you have to somehow incorporate a piece of a tree and some water into it. (I would like to see some browns and blues)... a piece of the tree..etc..You can also paint the index cards to match you theme using whatever you have handy...crayons, watercolors, oils, pastels, etc. I would like the tree and water parts to be three dimensional.

After you are done putting the card together. I would like a brief note to be written as to why this memory stands out in your childhood.

We will do 10 participants. Same rules will apply as to helping with postage as I send all of Mine out priority mail with iinsurance

Let your minds wander back to when you were young.. at a time when you had no cares in the and you were at one with the Earth..

Very interesting idea! Just to clarify, when you say you want part of a tree and water involved, do you mean part of a real tree/ real water?

Thanks Tommi. Dates of closure... I will give until the end of this week for signing up.. say Friday the 23rd. They should be postmarked to Me by the 7th of May. That gives two weeks to get them all together. Sound fair? If not, just let Me know.

Also each card does not have to be the same scene. If there is more than one childhood scene you would like to share, please feel free. I was trying to make this not complicated, yet interesting at the same time.

It could be put in a very small container.. kind of like the ones you used to put the green items in... all of those had a lid on them. then secure it to the card..If it is too much.. then those that can not do that.. can paint the water scene..

I have to admit, I have mixed feelings about this project. I think it's a lovely idea, but for me, I think that there are too many restrictions/rules for me to be completely comfortable with it.

The size is absolute (4x6), requesting a pre-colored index card (I always buy white and color/paint/paste/accent as necessary for example), wanting not only 3 dimensional work (which is really a cool idea, I say) but specifically saying you would like blues and browns (in my world, maybe my trees are yellow, etc...I'm taking some license here of course), that it must be a memory from your childhood and include water and include trees (believe it or not, I don't have a lot..if any of those..as I am not a good swimmer and tend to stay away from water except for bathing and drinking purposes), wanting a description of the memory (again, kind of a cool idea), and really preferring that real water and trees be used in some form (not everyone has/use containers to be able to do this....although I did see you said it could be painted...alas, not a forte of mine). Also, there seems to be a bit more work involved than our usual rounds, but the time frame is a bit shorter.

Please don't think that I am trying to be snarky or mean. I'm just explaining my reasons for hesitating in signing up for this round. I usually only sign up for the rounds that interest me and that I think I can do well with. This one, I am on the fence about, since I'm not comfortable with my ability to produce work that includes all the rules. On the other hand, I don't think I've ever participated in a round with Random and I know she's artistically brilliant, so I'm waivering back and forth.

Well, I have until the 23rd to figure it out, I guess. *rueful grin*

Well Gemme, I understand what you are saying. I never said anything was steadfast. I was just giving an idea and also trying to make it interesting and not overly complicated. I have to say I have seen some on the thread that are more complicated than this. However, it is up to each individual if they want to do it or not. I am glad that those that have signed up.. feel that it is worth trying out. Thanks everyone.

I also did not mean I wanted JUST blues and browns.. I was giving an example. Maybe .. something is getting lost
in the post between what I am saying and what you are reading.

Also the time can be changed as well. This is My first wrangle so I am open to suggestions. However, if there are those that just do not want to do it.. that is fine too. We all make our own choices. nods.

Random 04-10-2010 04:01 PM

Gemme..

Expand what the words mean..

like for me... I'm going to use water to change the chemical make up of something.. so a container of pure water will not be sent, but the card will have water in it..

you use white? baby.. food coloring.. make your own paper out of your white..

Color outside the lines.... let your mind blow up..

grin...

Count me in! It will be my first project in my new house! I do want to ask what Jake meant about the very small containers the green project came in. I dont remember getting any of those...or am I experiencing loss of memory again? (no, seriously, I am having memory problems again) Can some refresh me?

Jake, I love the idea...and will be thinking about it as I move...

*smiles*.. someone had sent a package with small little plastic containers with lids on them.. I thought they came from Jennifer.. it might have been from someone else. I am not saying it HAS to be in that form.. as I said before.. I will leave it open to interpretation.. Clarification.

I am going to revise this.. the best way I know how.. so that it is a bit more clear.

I would like this to be a scene from one's childhood memory(memories).

It can be an index card, cardboard, etc... up to 5x7. (this is for mailing purposes).

I would like to see a tree and water incorporated into the scene. I would like the tree portion to be an actual piece of a tree. As for the water, I do understand the difficulty of "sending" water through the mail.. so I modified that to say that the water scene can be painted, colored by crayon, colored pencil, marker, whatever one wishes.

I would like the tree and water to be three dimensional. So that the tree and water part come away from the index card, cardboard, etc.. and can be seen.

If one does not wish to give a description of the childhood memory, I am absolutely fine with that. I did not realize until after that some may not want to share that memory in word form.

As for the comment about the blue and brown.. I would like to see those two colors incorporated.. along with ANY other colors one chooses to bring forth the memory.

I hope this addresses everything.

Also, as to the time frame. I will extend the sign up date to April 26th. Once the sign up is complete, I will give three (3) weeks to have the projects complete. So that would be... postmarked to Me by May 17th.

As in the last round and others extensions have been given as to the time and that certainly can happen with this as well. I do realize we all have lives.

I hope I have addressed everything here and made things more clear.

Please expand your minds as to how to incorporate things .. I think this could be a really fun project showing all of us a glimpse into one's memory.

Random 04-10-2010 06:11 PM

Jake,

Would it be ok if the spirit of trees and water were implied?

I have an image that is so strong in my mind, but doesn't exactly have a *picture* of a tree and water..?

I love the spirit of the project, but also like my interpretation of your idea..

Oh, what the hell ... I'm game!

Gemme, I'm also not used to working within such strict parameters, but, I like the "nature" theme. I'm just trying to think of a memory that includes both trees & water together. I have memories of each separately, but I'm not easily coming up with one of them together.

As for carefree childhood memories, I'm afraid I don't have too many of those, so I'm going to have to take some creative license. I hope that's ok, Jake?

I love the idea of including part of an actual tree in the project, but not of attaching a container of water, glad that you expanded it to allow for it to be drawn/painted/collaged.

This should be interesting!

I also appreciate the revision/clarification, Jake.

Would we be allowed to use things like stickers and stamps and glitter and the usual suspects or is this to remain as 'natural' as possible?

I don't want to ask
but
ya, I got to

is it ok (like legal) to send plant materials
across state lines?
it will be dead plant stuff but still

also
If I do this
I will have to make something up or do a grown thing
my only water and tree memory is a fragment
and it is so not a good thing
and well when it comes to childhood it is basically a blank

To My knowledge it is legal to send "legal" plants across states lines.. unless it is marijuana, mary jane, weed, etc.. or some plant that is poisonous. So I would anything outside that category would work. If you do not have a childhood memory that then that is fine.. make something up or a grown up memory.

Soft*Silver 04-12-2010 02:45 PM

actually there are laws that forbid transportation of some plants across state lines. But I think it has to be the seeds or roots of said plants. They dont want them to go into a non native environment and outgrow the vegetation that is native to it. It would ruin the ecosystem. But if the plant is dead, dried, and no seeds sent, you should be ok. Seeds would be ok IF you see them advertised for sale in your normal seed catalogs. Also, some seeds are used as narcotics. Like Datura moonflower plant seeds. Smoke them to hallucinate.

But if the plant is dead, dried, and no seeds sent, you should be ok. Seeds would be ok IF you see them advertised for sale in your normal seed catalogs. Also, some seeds are used as narcotics. Like Datura moonflower plant seeds. Smoke them to hallucinate.
