I'm okay with extending the deadline a bit but I do see where sis is coming from. Not sure where that leaves us. Guess laruss will let us know.

nycfem 07-07-2013 05:28 PM

Sis, your line of thinking makes a lot of sense. Is there an amount of time that it could be extended that would not conflict (i.e. like two weeks) or would even that be pushing it?

I trust the Canadian and American postal system; I do not trust the Chinese postal system. Every package that is sent into China is inspected - anything on the ATCs that are deemed inappropriate will result in the entire package being destroyed. Is there a possibility that there could be some consideration given to the situation I am in? Thoughts?

On a side note, yes, I have participated in ONE project several years ago ..... I did received the Altoid tin and I did contact the sender directly to insure there would be nothing untoward on the tin. The tin arrived in China Post packaging as it had been inspected - some of the décor needed to be reattached due to the inspection.

Sis, I understand. I will try hard to do them ASAP. Thank you for letting us know this. It does matter to me.

candy_coated_bitch 07-07-2013 06:55 PM

sis, I do understand, too. It's really difficult sometimes to accommodate everyone. :( It makes total sense that you signed up for a project and expected it to be done by the deadline. (obviously) For some of us extending the deadline or getting a couple cards late makes no difference, but I totally understand not wanting to receive mail in China.

Hopefully we can figure out something that makes sense for the most people.

I have a question, actually: Is it ok to designate each of my cards to a specific person?

nycfem 07-07-2013 06:58 PM

CCB, I wrote on the back of each of my cards who they should go to, I believe.

laruss 07-07-2013 07:20 PM

I would like to wait and hear what the latest date would be for sis to receive them in time before she has to leave.

I know that in the last project I was late, I tried to bow out as my life got a bit crazy. I would love everyone to be able to participate but I don't want sis to not get her package either.

So, lets see what she says and everyone who can, please get them in on time and for those few who may be late hopefully it will be within her timeline.

If that time line doesn't work for a few we can always send the extras to the raffle, unless they are personalized in which case I could send them their few.

sis 07-07-2013 10:59 PM

WOW! Lets see how we can accommodate as many people as possible. My thoughts are ..... I leave on August 16th very early in the morning. I would like to think it would be great to have my packet by August 10th - I want to show them to friends here as they saw the ones I sent. I think that would easily allow a two-week delay in the deadline. However, does this fit with Laruss's schedule as I do believe she has another project after this one and may not have time to send out the packets.

Deb

PS: I didn't designate who is to get my cards.

My cards will be going out in tomorrow's mail. I had fun and it was a freeing project, to just sit and do anything that popped into my head. kaijiara sat on the couch watching me, reading off and on, and saying this looks life fun," I want to sign up for the next one".

I made one for the BFP "basket" , otherwise no designee.

LET'S PAAAARTAAAY.

Waiting, not waiting, cut off dates, delays and etc.

I do miniature watercolours and I got the idea from the Artist Trading Cards.
I would like us to do Artist Trading Cards with at least 2 mediums, mixed media style. That can mean 2 different types of paint, or embellish it with stones, glass, cut outs, photos, markers. The possibilities are endless.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artist_trading_cards This is What Wiki says about the ATC's.

Here are some ideas. http://www.atcsforall.com/ there are no end of possibilities. You can search them out on the Internet or just make up your own.

They are 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" in size and you can buy them precut in every type of paper or you can cut your own.

We will take the first 12 people who want to join us.

This is a great project for me to wrangle as I have to send them out from Canada and our postage is much higher so this will be an inexpensive project.

If you are in please sign up and I will send you my address to send them to.

Deadline of July 11. You will only need to include $2 (and American is fine) in your envelope as they won't be to bad to send out. Unless you add heavy items to your cards, in which case $5-$10 would be appreciated.

I am looking forward to everyone's creativity.

To the best of my recollection, and without going back 10 years....In the recent past, and distant past... I know we closed the date, and if you were late , you did not get the project package, and participants did not get your work. Your piece either returned to you and you sent each one to the participants individually, or along those lines.

I would suggest that we do it this way again. Otherwise, new wranglers, new participants, and new projects can get pushed back two to three months.

We all want to enjoy the

2 cents from one who has been late in the past ;)

Oh, yes and in the rush to make the deadline,

I have been known..ahem..cough cough...to forget to include the money for mailing costs, then, I get to mail another letter off.

I have a few thoughts to add to Tommi's .... first of all, and, possibly due to the previous project going way past its close date, the minute this project was posted IT FILLED UP. I'm thinking that perhaps we need a few days to 'think about' whether or not we really have the time/supplies to do the project. This would involve posting the project and a few days later begin to sign up. I sense that we were all so excited/desperate to participate that we simply signed up.

For me, one of the first considerations were the due dates - they really worked well for me. I wasn't so sure about the actual project but I spent time researching it and thought 'yes I can'.

I eventually picked up the supplies (I bought a couple of sheets of watercolour papers, cheap kids watercolours, a fine-tipped black marker, and embellishments) and let them sit there for two weeks.

Finally, someone posted that they were mailing theirs so I realized I needed to really focus on the ATCs. Truly, 'I went to town' and I was done in one evening including making a few samples to 'get the hang of it' (my cards are VERY simple).

I really like the concept of our wrangled projects ..... it gives those participating a goal, something to look forward to, joy, creative outlet ..... but, it can also become an added pressure as the due date comes around.

Thoughts???

nanners 07-08-2013 09:15 AM

I have set this Sunday aside to do mine. I will have them in the mail unless everyone decides that the July 11th due date is final. I am sorry for my delay. I need to know if people still want them then and how I get them to people. I will go with whatever people decide. I will not sign up again unless I am setting a date to actually do the project and have the supplies. I'm sorry to everyone who is participating for my lateness.

sis 07-08-2013 09:34 AM

Roll Call!

Perhaps I'm being a bit presumptuous here but would it be possible to have a 'roll call' regarding when participants are able to get their ATCs into the mail? I think this would be helpful information for adjusting the due date.

Mine will be out on the 11th. I like to live dangerously like that. :)

Mailing woes...

Thought I would share a couple of thoughts on this project as it was the first one I could participate in. When the project was first mentioned I Googled "ATC" and every site stressed these were to be quick/easy/cheap little cards. I did mine plus a few "trials" in one afternoon and as Sis said the supplies were minimal. I used scrapbook paper, india inks and some embellishments. Nothing fancy. The hardest part for me was slotting the time but once I sat down to it things went quickly. I'm posting this for those who may feel discouraged because it really does go fairly fast but I made mine generic and not addressed to a specific individual.

I do want to warn those in the U.S. about utilizing UPS. If you do (and I do not recommend it) make sure you do not use the first address Laruss sent. UPS will not deliver there. It cost me $19.00 to ship the first time then when I asked to re-route they again charged me $19.00 (even though it was still in Canada) *plus* a $14.00 re-routing fee. Ridiculous!!! I'm not complaining just wanted to throw this out there in case anyone was considering UPS as a courier especially if you are down to the wire.

I am really looking forward to all the cards and hope we can keep doing projects like this!

Ok, lets give those few stragglers this weekend to finish. Get them in the mail on Monday as it does take much longer to get here because I am in Canada. And you want to send them USPS, so as not to be charged the ridiculous amount that Katniss was charged by UPS.

That way I should have them all by the end of the month and I can get them mailed off and sis will have hers before she leaves, as she is in Canada and should have them within the week. For those in the States it will be about 2 weeks.

If you don't have them sent by Monday and you want to pay the extra postage to send by UPS just make sure you get my home address before you send them. This will give you about an extra week, but cost you more.

Those who still cannot get them done, I suggest we send the extras to the raffle unless they are personalized in which case I will mail them to you.

How does this sound?

This is excellent as I won't be anywhere near a post office on the 11th and they won't be mail ready on the 10th, when I am.

My cards will go out either Saturday or Monday via USPS because I'm a big ole cheapo like that.

Oh, and I may have gone a bit overboard on things. The way I look at it is that my stuff will balance out the nicer, simpler, more sophisticated cards.
