The Woman in Black.
The sets were amazing.
The sound track was creepy.
The acting was good.
The screenplay... yeah well that could have been just a touch better.
Over all... I liked it.

ruffryder 02-10-2012 10:54 AM

Noted director Wayne Wang helms this adaptation of Lisa See's best-selling novel about two young girls in 19th-century China who are pledged as lifelong companions through an ancient ritual, although their friendship is sorely tested as they mature.

I knew that because I was the woman standing at the Redbox with my daughter at midnight, screaming, "Hurryyyyyyyy"!!! LOL Not for me, but for her. And as I posted in another thread, she made me do ALL four films in a row. Now that is true love. Not to mention the twelve hours I had to stand in line at the movie theaters each time one of the films premiered LMAO. She is a good kid, so I did not mind the least.

i saw this sunday, and i was hunched down in my seat with my hands covering my face, and this one part scared me so badly i flailed and punched myself in the eye by accident. Then i had to sit there with my achey eye for two minutes until my heart rate went back to normal.

Yeah, i'd recommend it. It's not going to win any awards, but i sure jumped a lot!

Sparkle 02-14-2012 06:56 AM

I saw 'The Descendants' this past weekend; Alexander Payne's film, featuring George Clooney.

It was a really wonderful, tender, funny, quiet film. The screenplay is excellent, and the acting is really great (Clooney deserves his Oscar nod and the three young actors are great as well).

I'd recommend it.

Albert Nobbs

...loved the period and aesthetics of this film, an it generated much conversation about each character's tragedy. I had mixed feelings on the plot overall.

JustJo 02-18-2012 09:51 PM

Rooster and I went to see the second Ghost Rider movie today....really not worth seeing. There were way too many discrepancies between the first and the second movies....just really lacking the appeal of the first one.

The Artist

TF found it to be a snooze fest. I enjoyed the fact that it was "different", but did not enjoy the storyline, itself. Our one friend enjoyed it (but she is one of those people who likes everything). Our other friend spent the whole time sighing and trying to talk us into slipping into a different theater showing another movie (which she had already seen, the poor thing was so desperate).

sanee66 02-18-2012 11:36 PM

Super 8....little unbelievable at the very beginning, but overall it was okay

Cowboys and Aliens...not quite what i expected but thought it was good

3-D XD

Just went to see Ghost Rider in 3-D XD. The movie itself was kind of a one trick pony. (Spoiler alert: Lots of stuff gets incinerated!) But I love the 3D. It is just so much more entertaining to me. I had never spent the $15.50 per ticket (!) to see that before. But it was fun, if ya like your action movies LOUD and LARGE. Some of the previews actually showed off the 3-D XD experience to better advantage because because they had more variety in the special effects, like Spiderman and John Carter.

I saw "This Means War" with Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, and Tom Hardy, it was a chocolate covered marshmallow with pop rocks- it was fluffy, cute and had a few explosions. Not quite the pure Godiva confection of "The Devil Wears Prada" (the most perfect fluff movie) but it had redeeming qualities and for a rainy Saturday it was lovely.
Chris Pine and Tom Hardy are very easy on the eyes and they have great chemistry together, I wish they would have made them a couple and got rid of the girl entirely, ces las vous. The real gem of the movie is Chelsea Handler, best friend of our heroine. Chelsea absolutely steals the show, so funny. So if your looking for fluff and fun this is absolutely for you, if you want depth and meaning, move on down the cineplex.

I saw Breaking Dawn Part I, also known as Bella has a vampire baby.

I can't tell you why I watched it but will be skipping part II.

Drive with Ryan Gosling, Carry Mulligan.

Excellent action movie! It is about a Hollywood stunt driver who moonlights as a "wheel man" and finds out a contract has been put out on him after a heist goes wrong.

Really liked it!

Also watched Toy Story 3. I dare you to have dry eyes when Andy goes off to college and gives the little girl his box of favorite toys. Made me boo hoo, that is for sure!

Gemme 02-26-2012 07:59 PM

A stupid movie called Dead Cool, about a 32 year old father of two boys who dies and how his family copes afterward. He also comes back to talk to one of his sons. Rosanna Arquette is in it.

ButchEire 02-26-2012 08:08 PM

The Grey: Good movie, and I was surprised to find out what "The Grey" actually referred to.

girl_dee 02-26-2012 08:10 PM

Coal Miners Daughter, for about the umpteenth time :)

puddin' 02-26-2012 08:31 PM

"liebestraum", "fermat's room", "rollerball" and "best in show"...

I'm watching Underworld: Awakening, but i'm not feeling it. Meh.

Coriolanus - IMDB site

I wasn't sure what to expect going into it, but I LOVE Shakespeare, so I figured I would enjoy it. I had a couple of moments that absolutely rocked me. The violence is really graphic and it's set in a contemporary war zone, so if you're military/have loved ones in the service this might be a bit triggery. Overall, though, I absolutely freaking LOVED it. Ralph Fiennes and Gerard Butler are BRILLIANT, and they rocked the hell out of the homosexual undertones. I recommend the hell out of this is you're a Shakespeare fan.

LaneyDoll 02-27-2012 08:33 AM

Friday night, I saw "The Artist." Pretty good. I am glad I saw it at the theater since any other "venue" would have probably made it too easy to turn it off during the slow scenes.

Saturday, "The Woman in Black." My son & I see scary movies together. BUT, he bailed on me and stayed with his grandmother that night so I had to face the dark alone. :(

lol

:sparklyheart:

Woman in Black

Just remember, if you go to see this movie, that it is PG13. I thought it was okay for the most part and had a few good "jump" moments. Given the rating I think the "pysch" factor was a tad to tame for my likes.

Overall it was fun :)

Thank you for the review! IMO, you just couldn't go wrong with the two of them in one film.

The Secret Life of Bees

WOW.

justkim 03-04-2012 07:11 AM

I thought it was a pretty good movie. I had a really hard time with the racial slurs, but I get that that is how it was and for some still is...
