A proverbial saying, often used in circumstances where it is thought that saying nothing is preferable to speaking. I also assume it means sometimes it's just nice not hear anyone running their mouth!

.....Saved By The Bell.....

Aside from the late 1980s TV show namesake, which covered the lives of a small group of students attending fictional Bayside High School, this idiom is often is often said when a boxer suddenly revives from a knockout punch and is able to get up before the bell rings.

Or, it's likely said by students when the recess bell rings to go home, preventing anymore last minute assignments or testing to be dealt with, especially if they're anxious to go hang out with friends after school.

Or,,,,it might be said by anyone who might not wanted to have responded to an email or text and suddenly something occurs which prevents them from having to take immediate action, hence they are saved by the 'bell'.

.....The Ball Is In Your Court .....

This idiom typically means that it's either your turn or another person's turn to make the next move.

UNLESS.... :giggle: .... by coincidence, you were playing tennis and you missed that stunning over-the-top power serve and the tennis ball whizzed past you before you could lob it back. If that is the case, then it's ......The Ball *WAS* in your court.

But no worries.... there's plenty of time to tie up the score to an Love-Love score. :giggle:

.....Water Under the Bridge .....

This idiom typically means that certain events or situations are in the past and consequently no longer regarded as important or a source of concern (pretty much holds true, as an social or cultural idiom).

Children should not speak in the presence of adults. This saying may be a bit antiquated in this day and age!

My dad truly believed in that idea.

I wish MORE did in this day and age! I can't believe the way parents let kids run amok nowadays!

Screaming, running, jumping, hopping, etc etc in restaurants & libraries no less!

Agreed My dad taught my brother and I to sit still and use dinning etiquette at restaurants.

....Turn it over to a higher power....

It's a figurative way of saying that it's better to turn things over to a power greater than yourself and trust that things will work out (somehow).

Mostly true, I believe.

Me and my sister would get the "LOOK" if we misbehaved, that's all it took!

The gist is you're passing up a more valuable item and coming away with something of lesser of value.

homoe??? What about the long held social notion that if you find a penny lying in your path of walking or the penny suddenly appears somewhere nearby and that it's a penny from heaven, that an Angel placed it near you to find???

The social notion that an Angel left a penny for you to find, that someone special wants you to know that they've got a message for you....that they're thinking of you or see you from heaven.

Meaning when you have an overabundance of something whether it be money or what have you, be frugal in case it evaporates at some point then you're left with nothing!

Oh, I've not heard that! I have heard that finding a penny brings good luck tho.
