No new due date for Jake's project.
Mine will be posted on Monday. Femmebaker's post referred to being happy that there will be a later due date than I had on the hyphen site (as she had been one of the people signed up for it), since I am cancelling the project there and moving it here with a new sign up and a new due date. |

I definitely want to participate in the project with the new due date, although I expect such participation in other projects will be limited. If anyone wants to exchange letters, please PM me as I have a hankering for trying to revive the art of letter writing (of the ink on paper sort). All the best to all, Cathy |
Letters
Welcome to the new world where the air is fresh and clean Cathy
I received a strange item in the mail yesterday. It was actually handwritten correspondence: and envelope with my daughter's handwriting , a letter and school photographs of my grandest kids. Smiling Trinity Hope who is 4 and pensive Dustin Bradley who is 6. She wrote of missing me, and California and the life she had being raised by two "sorta" women. She spoke of her first adventures in the snow when she was 4, when we bought a place in the mountains and we made a snowman together, and the trip on the chartered bus with 30 5th graders to Sacramento because I had to be a chaperon, and me in a wetsuti chaperoning at Catalina in 7th grade. She said she smiles everytime she sees big clouds, because it reminds her of when the Ex and I used to tell her we saw things in the big fluffy white mashed potato's, and we painted together. She is a good girl, albeit all grown up, and married a guy she met on the internet and I told ya so,...and I was thrilled to get a letter. Will i write back without spell check..probably ~~ maybe, just because :callme: |

Thanks! I am indeed! |
Jake's 3D Project is in the mail, except for softness' because I don't have her new address. I'll pm her for that.
Jake, I enjoyed this project and I enjoyed being able to take my time to do it. If I didn't have that time, I wouldn't have been able to come up with what I did and I think it's pretty nifty, if I do say so myself. :cheesy: *pats back* I am pleased that you have a project all lined up, J! One of my favorite projects of all time was your PostSecrets card project, so I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. If you will, when you post the info, go ahead and add my name to the list? I may not get a chance to sign up for it's closed otherwise. *grumbles about work locking the computers so I can't play anymore* |
To clarify:
Jakes project is finishing up and great stuff has been done Gemme needs softness's address Diva is confused Jen is now HERE!!!!!!!!! Singular is looking for people to write actual letters too Jen will be starting the next round on Monday (to damn far away if ya ask me) Purepisces already knows what it is (not fair) So does Femmebaker, who is happy to have more time Tommi got a letter Softness wants to do a round making book marks (great idea) |

p.s. Jen HAS been here ... she just left us for the last project, which I'm still sad about. I wanted to see her childhood memory. p.p.s. I'm really enjoying knowing the super-secret, fabulous theme for the Jen's project. It's possible that you could bribe me to tell before Monday ... but it's gonna cost ya! Unless Jen is reading this and then I would never, EVER tell. :| |
[QUOTE=purepisces;110065]And where have you been, ami?!? I've missed you around here.
completing projects getting a tooth pulled organizing catching up with my reading spring yard stuff and um, starting new projects lol p.s. Anyway, even without the references to that novel and film, the pleasures in a letter written in pen and ink, without spell check:giggle:, are many. Hopefully in another week or so I shall buy some pretty stationery and begin to revive that in my life! Cathy P.S. This site really does seem to be blessed with freshness and clean air! |
I would like to propose a project...and will wrangle it too...but it will take all summer (seriously) to do...do I need to ask anyone? Who?

well, I like to make pressed flower cards. I get mine from my own gardens, but also from wildflowers growing in my area. I thought it would be a nice idea if, during the summer, we pressed flowers and shared them with everyone in the fall time. We could make cards, and send extra pressed flowers along with the cards, so each person would be able to make more cards on their own too! I press mine simply in a telephone books. Leaves are also nice to press, since some of them give great texture and form. I would love to see flowers I dont have in my zone...and to get some that I could use in future products would be awesome! I had been tinkering with making holiday cards for family and friends with pressed flowers, including a frame that they could then frame the card to display all year round, as a present...
so...what do you all think? |
i would be up for this, i have a flower press around here somewhere, as i have done this many many times. RAIN... :rainsing:
|
softness, this sounds like fun, but I probably won't participate since I've got the Reunion and moving going on this summer. I'd probably wind up losing any work I did along the way, since I'm downsizing in a major way.
I'm sure others would enjoy participating though. |
Yes jennnnnnnnn...

My excuse for whatever it is worth. :hiding:I have been dogwalking a Sheba Inu for two weeks. A friend of sherrie and I has been housebound except for doctor's appts. Driving to her house before work and after work, getting Gingko Biloba (her doggie's name) . Mary O had a joint removed, and wires in her foot for hammertoe surgery and a bunionectomy and has a big ole football sized foot. I know she signed up on the site while recovering, so say hi to Mary O, the temporarily gimpy one. Two more weeks of no driving. The wonderful thing, is she is vegan and has been cooking me some wonderful dinners and soups, etc. |
Advice please
My yard is in full bloom,, and I never ever thought of drying out the leaves.
Question...Do the flowers/leaves get stuck to the page? Do you need to put anything between flowers/leaves and the newsprint of the phone book. Someone once told me I needed to do them in the micrwowave? ? I would love to preserve the bearded Iris that are from bulbs 20 years old...:2butch: |
Ok....so once again, I'm confused.....I thought the next wrangler was Jenn....no?
<sigh> |

I'll be posting the project and the sign-up on Monday :)

You do need to lay porous paper over and under flowers when you press them in a press, but in a phone book, the paper and ink is perfect for it.
There are some flowers and colors that dont dry well. Purple iris, depending on what color purple, might dry out brown. But be creative..that brown could be transformed into a fairy girl's hair! And the thicker the petal, or leaf the longer it takes to dry. if you want to dry whole flowers, or bulky leaves or thick petals, there is a different way to dry them. Go to the drive thru alcohol and pop place. Or Wal Mart even has these. Ask them for the cardboard bottoms that have sides that are only about 4 inches high. Cut out the bottom, leaving about 1 to 2 inches of cardboard left. take some netting (from fabric store, fishnet?) and staple it to the bottom. Do several and as you put things in to dry, you can place one on top of the other, criss cross for best air circulation. the very bottom box has to be lifted up off the ground somehow (I just put an empty flat under it) so it too can get air circulation. Dry them in an undisturbed area. Dont over crowd them or you will get mold. Also, try not to put different types of flowers,or even diff colors of the same flower in the box or presses together unless they wont touch at all ever. |
I wonder if anyone has seen this before? I am sharing LOL
I just learned about paper embroidery I posted 2 pictures in the gallery of 4 of the cards I made. You get patterns then punch holes in the paper then you use thread, floss to do the patterns you can add stickers and do cut outs etc |
Please sign up!
I decided to go ahead and post a sign up for the next group snail mail project today instead of tomorrow because work is going to be busy on Monday!
Please, as a reminder, sign up again if you were signed up for this project on the hyphen site, because I have moved the project here instead. No limit to how many sign up but I will post when the sign up has closed, so that we can know how many projects to make and get started. This project is being wrangled by me, meaning, everything gets mailed to me and I make up the packages and send them out. Anyone reading this post right now is welcome to participate, newbies and oldies. Any questions, just ask. The theme of this pen pal project is addictions, such as alcohol, drugs, smoking, sex, food, love, video games, coffee, drama, shopping, gambling, television, working, Internet, or addiction in general without a specific focus. It can be about your addictions past or present or an addiction of someone from your life or even a famous person or a book you liked about addiction, whatever you are comfortable with. A serious interpretation of this theme or a light-hearted approach are both welcome. You will make one project for each person who signs up. You can make all projects the same or each one different. You can specify who on the list you want to receive each of your projects or let me decide. As far as what each of your projects are, that's up to you but just nothing too big or heavy or bulky, since I will be mailing them out. You can make a postcard or an art project or write about it or use a photo or music, whatever you like. You can spend a short amount of time on it and keep it simple or put a lot of time into it, all up to you. Please include five dollars for mailing costs. I will mail them out at the end of June, so please send me your projects by then, a little earlier if you can manage it. Make one less than the number of people who sign up since I won't be mailing you one that was made by you. Sign up List: 1. nycfembbw/ Jennifer 2. 3. 4. 5. etc. |
