Ageism/dateing ivisablity

Yeah that thing.Boy did it ever raise its ugly head tonigh, again, there is the really cute, sexy as all get outs college prof I have been hanging out with on and off for a while. When I met her she had no idea what my age was nor I hers,a fue monts ago I got carded at a night club and she was with me,the guy at the door made the comment that hell you dont look any where near your age..what ever you are doing keep it up...I said thanks and in we went.So in passing she ask, just how old are you???In a kidding way I told her old enough to vote a couple of times over anyway, then I told her my age(64)
She didn say much then but on the way home she said we could be friends but she just didnt date anyone seriously that was so much older than she was (50).I said no prob so we stayed friends, last night we went out for dinner and the blues club on the river frount,we had a good time till she had a drink to much then she desided we might be better than friends. Now If I wasnt the person I am I may have used this occasion to my advantage but I took her home got her in the house safely..then told her that we were friends and will stay that way cause unless she still though this way when she was sober a fue drinks wouldnt change things, then I said good night. When I got home there was a message on my phone that said she was sorry for haveing to much to drink,it wasnt something she normaly did(this I know already) end of message.I wish ageism didnt become an issue in the things we do in life, weather I see her again isnt he issue,I would like to atleast keep the friendship, its just theis thing about age sucks.

Rock, do I every hear you on this one!

I'm 62, but also don't look my age, and a femme. That means the entire dating pool is about the size of a thimble.

I don't understand your lady's objection to your age. Out there in the het world, an older guy is always desirable. I mean she's not 25!

But femmes are graded by their ages as if we're eggs or something that will go bad if we are over a certain date. Sheesh! We're just swinging into our prime. 50 is the new 30 so we're just mellowing.

Hang in there, Rock. There's got to be someone out there who appreciates fine wine.

Mr Nice Guy 01-15-2012 11:33 AM

Still single by choice. Haven't met the right one yet. Then again I haven't really been looking.

ruthie14 01-15-2012 12:25 PM

Well, since we seem to be discussing being single today. Yes, I am still single... I date with purpose.. meaning, I become friends first... I don't date someone unless I think they have potential to be THE one.. and even then, I don't have sex while "dating"... have to be in an exclusive relationship before I will do that. Not a judgement call on anyone else...but I tend to get hurt if I let sex come into a relationship too soon. So, am I looking, a little... Am I in a panic about it.. no... when it's right, it will be right. Not willing to settle for anything less than someone who is crazy for me and I am crazy for them. Respect, love, compassion, kindness, humor... all very important to me. I am a strong femme who knows her mind, her own heart and her own soul.

OK... that said, I am going to a Ladies dance today with some friends. Love to dance and love to meet new people.

Have a great sunday everyone!
Ruthie

Good afternoon Singles!! Since we're on the topic of being single. I'm not single by choice but won't go out with just anyone. I'm pretty perceptive and know when there's good chemistry or when I think there's good chemistry. One day the right one will come along....at least thats what everyone tells me lol

Zimmeh 01-15-2012 01:15 PM

Ditto!

Hello Singles!

Just dipping my toe into this thread, so to speak..

The dating pool for femmes who are older does seem small. Not sure why, guess the "youth culture" still has sway even in our community. I assume someone who can appreciate older ladies will show when it is right. And I adore and prefer older butches so one will feel fully appreciated by me.

Also, I heard something about buttermilk biscuits?

Mmmmm.

Yes I have to agree...pool for femmes who want "older" butches is slim as well!!
Yea, Zimmeh just HAD to go and mention buttermilk biscuits....I have hinted to heavenleahangel to make us some...but so far I haven't seen them...lol...maybe in the morning she will make us a fresh hot pan of them....smiles...
Have an awesome day, my friend...take care...hugs...Clay

Midwest Warm

Happy Monday from Kansas City Missouri!

Been a while since I've been on this board, but it seems to be rolling along just fine :O)

It's been two years since the end of my 12 year partnership and I think I'm ready to date again. My sister wisely informed me, "You won't know if you're ready till you get back out there!" LOL.
Aside from not hurting anyone, dating real-time (not LDR)...any advise?

Clay's right. Just get to know someone.

But get out there first. Mingle, mingle, mingle. I'm starting to do that. I'm going to as many dances as I can---because I love to dance!

And I'm trying to spend time with one or two of my butch friends in real time, just enjoying their company. If you haven't been in the dating world in a long time (like me--over three decades since I had a date), just being around your butch friends will let you relax and enjoy the banter that goes between folks. And it will keep you from losing your head when you date a real potential butch.

Just enjoy, hun.

Hi Bella,

I kinda agree with your sister. I broke up with my partner of 2 years in July. We broke up for very good reasons and we both knew it needed to happen but it had been a serious relationship and we were crazy about each other.

It's taken me 6 months but I now feel ready to re-enter dating land. In those 6 months I became really protective of my time and space and designated every Saturday as a self care day to hike with my pup, read, write, drink tea, take baths and most importantly talk to no one. That sounds extreme but it was just what my introverted self needed to become reacquainted with single me.

I knew I was ready when I got to the point of feeling happy and complete on my own and people (friends, co-workers, etc, not just potentially romantic interests) started to become gradually more drawn to me as I began to recover my energy, attitude and confidence.

As for dating real time...I like okcupid. I know that's online but their questions and detailed stats are really helpful. Their system streamlines the process of finding people who share your values and interests. All the questions are user generated so you can even create your own content according to your values and when you answer a question about your preferences you can assign that question a value to indicate how important it is to you. As in: I'd prefer a lover who can cook (though that's optional), but they absolutely MUST be a kinky bastard.

I've had 2 very good okcupid dates so far and there weren't any red flags (or even pink ones) in those dates because I had enough information from their profile, our compatibility ranking and our message exchange to feel confident deciding whether it would be worth the time and energy to meet in person.

Sorry, that was long. I hope it was helpful.

Congrats on your good health report, Cody!

I should clarify this. I had a small space last year where I saw three butches after over three decades of not being in circulation. It's been a year now of being totally single, and I've started getting out and mingling and enjoying the company of one or two of my butch friends.
