I would say i verbally came out at 17. But people knew before hand. I came out as trans about 3 years ago.

I was 15-16 and in High School. I had boyfriends and crushes on boys, had no idea what homosexual was. I had heard the words dyke, fairy, fag but just knew they were words people used to make fun of people.
After moving to another state and being completely distraught, a girl at my new school befriended me. As time went by I began to realize that I only wanted to spend time with her. One day she told me she had feelings for me. I had to go home and sit in my room to try and sort out exactly what I was feeling. It hit me that I felt the same way about her. Once I was introduced to other lesbians I felt like I was home. It was 1976-77. |
I came out when I was 30.
I told my parents at 12 I was gay, but the rejection I got from them that I didn't know my own mind sent me back into the closet. But that's life, we do a lot of those kinds of things bc we don't want to disappoint other ppl. Trust your instints, and don't be afraid to be who you really are. It will free you |
I knew I liked girls as early as 2nd grade...but it gets drilled into your head (especially in my very Catholic family) that girls like boys....period.
The year my very religious gramma died, I started dating my first girlfriend. I was 28 or 29. I didn't have an opportunity to "come out" persay....my aunt saw me and my girlfriend together and put 2 and 2 together and informed my mother...who proceeded to have a total melt down. Its all good now, but it really was not pretty for a long LONG time in my world... |

Where's the 'how you know you're getting older' thread? |
I had a good feeling I was gay and my first girl crush in 6th grade.
But I didn't officially come out until college, age 19. Ironically, and unintentionally, it was on National Coming Out Day. |
