Frankie

This is Frankie (the old cat in the blue shirt) teaching a line dance called the shim sham ... he took this dance all across the world.
Sorry, it's a music thread, but this is music one MOVES to, right?

and, yeah, I got a zoot suit ... :)

One place to get da music ...
http://www.downhomemusic.com/
Down Home Music is in El Cerrito, CA. It's a great place where, unlike most, you can actually ask someone about a specific genre' of music and, THEY KNOW! Each employee has a particular area, or genre, that they know really well. They are great on the phone, you can order on phone or on line. They have an EXTENSIVE vinyl record collection in the back.
They do not solely sell BB/swing. They sell C&W, World Music, etc. Just not pop, rap, or whatever is currently played on the radio. Great resource ... that is under threat of closure due to hard economic times. If you think that you'd like to purchase music, please consider Down Home Music.

da parrot's favorite swing song

My African Grey parrot, Shuma, actually dances to this song and makes finger popping noise with her beak!
This is "our" preferred version of Roll em Pete, by Count Basie and Joe Williams... the video is unimportant to me ... don't know what the heck they're doing ...

I'll go away now ... k? :)

Absolutely!! And thank you, Incubus. These two tunes are really from the 50's - I remember listening to them when I was just a kid.

I'd like to stick to the format and purpose of the thread, tho. Thanks for participating. :)

Glenn Miller's 'String of Pearls'...

...with stills of classic Hollywood 'pearls' - they just don't make women like that anymore!! Such beauty, elegance, and sexiness, but always with Class!

cinderella 02-09-2011 11:18 AM

Thank you, pj, glad you are enjoying it. Looking forward to your offerings. :)

You're very welcome, Starbuck. It's so exciting to see how many of you love this music as much as I do. Thanks for participating. I look forward to hearing your favorites!

A very young Dorothy Dandridge...

...early in her career, before Hollywood came knocking and made her one of the most famous black women in movies - what a beauty she was!

cinderella 02-09-2011 06:02 PM

I LOVE 'Orquestra Wives'. TCM shows it every now and then, and I always try to catch it when it's on. Did you get a gander at Jackie Gleason (of 'The Honeymooners' fame) playing the bass fiddle? I love this tune too! Thanks for posting it, Madi. Looking forward to more!

A vitamin pill with legs indeed!!!

A call to arms

or, in this case, feet ... for lindy hoppers. In the long version, I get half way thru, then want to call 911 :lol2: Great BB sound

waxnrope 02-09-2011 08:37 PM

One of the BB sounds, the "Latin" music of the 40s, was called Cubop - a fusion of Latin American and African music ... but I can't find any originals on YouTube. Anyone have posts for this?

Loved this! She's a new one for me, but I love her voice too. Here's another popular tune of the day by her - for my honey 'cowboy'. :)

This fella SwingMan1937 on youtube posts a lot of neat ones from his vinyl collection. It's one of my favorite subscriptions.
