-   -   What is the definition for Diesel Dyke? (http://www.butchfemmeplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3712)

I heard a diesel engine is stronger and lasts longer, and gets more miles per gallon. Regular engines have a lower compression ratio than a diesel, meaning diesels have more power. Their ignition is not generated by a spark but by intense heat. Takes um a while to get warmed up but once they are...they can go all night long. Rudolf Diesel was a German, and I think Dyke is a Dutch name.:|

I think I must be one..........although more so when I was in my 20's when cowboys would yell that at me while they beat baseball bats on the side of the big ass trucks.....

I will qualify my response. To all of us in San jose in the.seventies...we were very much transgendered in dress. We never thot of top surgery. Dies was a nickname for me. I suppose we can play with semantics. In the fifties in california and america..it was just as said. Definately pejorative for a minute but you know diesal dykes..they ameliorated that word magically being themselves

IMHO...In my neck of the woods. Back in my younger days many many years ago. I dated a few "Deisel Dykes" For me it was thier masculine energy. It wasn't just how fricken hawt they looked..but it was the confidence, cockiness the whole energy they put out there. Nobody f*cked with them and if they did well let me just say they regreted it. They were James Dean/Marlon Brando, pistol/knife carrying, cock packing, truck driving, cow branding, horse breaking, construction working, mechanical, tough, strong, taking care of thier business Dykes. And very proud of who they were. I didn't witness any sort of abusive behaviour from anyone of them. They took care of thier family and friends. Protected them with thier lives. I don't know when the word Dyke became taboo to some. Personally being from the Old School back when..When someone ID's as Dyke it's celebration time. I in no way am saying that any other ID is wrong. I'm really glad that our community is so large and out there that anyone can ID as to what suits them and thier inner self. Nobody should ever be put into a one size fits all box. Diversity is what makes the world go around. As for you ex..well sounds to me like it was a weak excuse to not have to own up to her own personal issues.

My ex used to laughingly, lovingly call herself a diesel dyke. To her it was old school, embracing of a phrase used to put down very butch women back in the 60's (and later) when she first came out.

She was proud of how butch she was and I loved it. She was/is a very gentle soul regardless and never beat anyone up; nor did she carry weapons. She was strong as hell though & based on her appearance; no one ever fucked with her.

This is what I've read about them:

"Diesel Dyke

A lady (often quite large,) that prefers the (very) close company of other ladies, known as femmes. Regularly seen wearing a lumberjack shirt, boots and dungarees/bib & braces overalls.

Origin: Due to the normal extreme mass of these 'ladies,' it has often been assumed that locomotion could only be facilitated with the assistance of a powerful Diesel engine.

See also Clamjouster, Mingeeta, Plaid-clad Whale and Rugmuncher

The kind of lesbian women who is stronger and tougher then most men.
That diesel dyke knocked that guy out cold."

My take - she wanted to break up, and found that if she could ditz (sp?) you with something you didn't understand, you wouldn't argue. My opinion only of course.

Where I come from (small town) Diesel Dyke was a reference to every bad lesbian stereotype and was used as an insult by gay and straight alike. It was most often used to describe a small group of local dykes who were for the most part unemployed alcoholics who were very rough and generally unpleasant people.

When I identified as a Diesel Dyke it was cause I was dyke identified (at the time).. and a diesel mechanic.

A literal interpretation of the phrase...
