I wonder why it is that the military and education have so many acronyms?

Had the oppurtunuty to do just that a while ago. I was at work and walked up to group of people talking just in time to hear, "That's so gay!" and responded, "That's so straight!" in the same condescending tone. There was a group pause, and then someone said, "I never thought of it that way." Another group pause...
Since then, I've not heard the phrase from any one of them - instead I'm hearing words like weird, stupid, not right.

dale2555 11-04-2010 08:36 AM

I'm tired of hearing dude; and I'm tired of hearing myself say absolutely.

chefhmboyrd 11-04-2010 09:04 AM

teaparty

those effin teabaggers are tap dancing on my last nerve.....
just another title for the hatemongering religious right to hide behind.
for fucks sake, the teaparty happened centuries ago.
i guess it says where they are firmly stuck in time.........
in the past.

"Tatts" or "Ink". They are Tattoos.

"Tatt Gun". It isn't a gun. It doesn't go Bang Bang. It is a tattoo machine.

WheelieStrong 11-04-2010 10:05 AM

The one word that bugs me is Chillax, i don't know why it just does

katsarecool 11-04-2010 10:58 AM

Kobi 11-05-2010 06:49 PM

Especially when its an "I like you BUT..." Its a no good one for me too! In fact I hate that entire phrase!

Kelt 11-05-2010 08:08 PM

The media use of "New Normal"

When what they mean is that particular thing will continue to suck for about a decade.

AtLast 11-05-2010 10:06 PM

Anyone mention "issues" yet?

"I have issues with that." ARGH! How about just saying what you find to be a problem about something!

This just has always felt counter to communication to me. LOL... and I was a shrink! We were the worst at using "issues" I bet!

paposeco 11-05-2010 10:51 PM

geez!

" my bad"..
your bad what?? hair cut, breath, driving, singing, vision....WHAT??!!!

It means they agree with you :)

Kenna 11-05-2010 11:22 PM

"Youns" as in "what are youns doing Sunday?"

"Damn Yankee" (I'm not a Yankee.... I'm from Virginia! :cheesy: there's nothing wrong with being a Yankee...however, I'm not a DAMN Yankee)

Inflation

Stimulus Package

This one really pisses me off.... "Welfare Scum"

Scota_Parisi 11-05-2010 11:39 PM

The constant use of "Ya-know-what-I'm-sayin?" at the end of every other sentence.

I don't know why, but when young kids like teenager use "dude" it doesn'y bother me. It just sounds like kid lingo that we have at that age. But, like you, it can get on my nerves with adults.

Now, I have to think about what word I use a lot and maybe don't even realize I am using it!

:seeingstars:

bright_arrow 11-06-2010 02:41 AM

The word I am tired of? Honesty.

asphaltcowboi 11-06-2010 07:54 AM

"what ever"

CrankyOldGuy 11-06-2010 10:34 AM

efficacy as in pharmaceuticals

Leigh 11-06-2010 12:41 PM

This fucking period :badmood:

BestButchBoy 11-07-2010 06:27 AM

-----------> No.

Melissa 11-07-2010 08:01 AM

I Have a few.....these are the ones that make me grind my teeth.

Ridiculous.....People use this word when what they are describing is not ridiculous. It might be unfair, confusing, illogical, though.

Closure - I still don't understand what this means.

The phrase "please advise" stuck at the end of an email.

Dude

cool

awesome

da' bomb (but I don't hear it very often any more, thankfully).

Melissa

KatieStar 11-11-2010 12:38 AM

Bizarre. I've been hearing this word a lot lately, and it's making me want to claw my eyeballs out.

Miss Scarlett 11-11-2010 06:26 AM

Disrespect and all forms thereof...

It seems that everywhere you turn someone, somewhere is complaining of this and/or using it as an excuse or justification for bad behaviour.

Diva 11-11-2010 11:16 AM

"Hun" & "dear".

It reminds me of my former mother-in-law. She didn't really mean it when she said it. It was HER way of sayin' "bitch".

JustJo 11-11-2010 01:25 PM

privilege

agenda (not in the business sense, but the personal)

trope (haven't heard it in awhile, but if I do again I swear I'll hurl)

and....I confess, it's petty, but I hate it when people use expressions incorrectly....like "tow the line"....when it's "toe the line".... :seeingstars:

happygirl 11-11-2010 01:33 PM

Bang for your buck.

Kobi 11-11-2010 01:38 PM

copayment

as in we billed your primary insurance,
and we billed your secondary insurance,
and there is still a copayment.
Exactly how much money do these freakin
health care people need??????

scootebaby 11-11-2010 01:41 PM

more to add...

"wont happen again"--when u know full well it will

"but".......i wont even let them finish after this word

"why".......because i freakin said so

"i know".....well if u know why do u KEEP doing it

and of course what my sweetie posted.....we can go on for days over those things...lol

Scorp 11-11-2010 02:00 PM

I would like to add an "expression" I'm tired of:

"I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit" :slapfight:

I can't stand when someone says that....

Jesse 11-11-2010 02:25 PM

This may have been posted already, not sure.

I can't ... drives me bonkers because the truth is you won't. :seeingstars:

Guy 11-11-2010 02:30 PM

Stellar!!!

JustLovelyJenn 11-11-2010 02:32 PM

"I understand, I really do."
