Glad to see I am in good company!

Gemme 03-31-2010 05:53 PM

I'm 35, chronologically. My emotional and mental ages change and (d)evolve regularly.

I think that the only way that younger people would feel unwelcome would be if the older people were giant asshats about the younger people. I haven't seen any of it here, but I remember on the dash site I saw quite a bit of ageism toward the younger folks. I'm 32 now, but was in my early/mid-20s when I first started hanging out at the dash site, and there were quite a few people who were gigantic asshats to me and said some really shitty things regarding my age (or lack of age, or whatever).

Those people stopped giving me the business eventually, whether because I'd been around long enough that they got over it or because I got older and ergo more acceptable to them - but I haven't forgotten who they are. Believe me. (Ask me about my grudge-holding abilities!)

Frankly, the only queer space that I've ever experienced/been witness to shitty attitudes toward younger folk has been within our community (both irl and online). I don't know what that's all about.

*Bump*

Lots of people have joined since the last post in May, so I thought it would be good to bump this up to get more participation!

I like most of the older people on here. I have been on BF since I was 18(I started on the dash site). Back then there was almost no one my age. I am still here at 22. I feel I socialize better with older people because they are more mature.

The only thing that upsets me is when I get discounted because of my age. I know I don't have as much wisdom as others but that does not mean I am stupid or immature. People who underestimate me because of their age are proving to me they are immature and judgmental.

BugsAndKisses 10-22-2011 05:58 PM

wow...I'm kind pf a dork...I thought this thread was about the age of the earth debate!

untangle 10-22-2011 06:36 PM

I'm very surprised by the age range here, but it's a good kind of surprise. Let the passing of wisdom continue!

Nat 10-22-2011 06:46 PM

Maybe we should start saving to create a retirement community one day :)

Luv 10-22-2011 07:02 PM

It sure is different being refered to as an older person by the younger generation, but I think back through the years and it is a blessing, my 1st friend passed when she was 17,,I was 15, many years have gone by and alot of life,,Im thankful for what I have had,,even if my hair is gray and I dont move as fast as I used to, and actually check out scooters when I go to Disneyland !:glasses:

I think it is actually a really awesome idea. There are a few gay/lesbian communities out there, and people are flocking to them. They are expensive, though.

Someone who is good at creating that kind of thing should do it. If it was in a half decent location I would seriously relocate (a 55+ type community).

AtLast 10-22-2011 07:22 PM

Oh good, I'm not as far from the mean than I thought!! Oh yeah- a queer retirement community sounds great!

atomiczombie 10-22-2011 07:50 PM

Hmm, I first answered this when I was 39. I'm 41 now.

Rox 03-02-2012 02:17 AM

Curious myself

As I been surfing around and posting since joining yesterday.. I wondered also the average age group of this forum. Thanks for this thread)~

Mr Nice Guy 03-02-2012 05:21 AM

I started on the other B-F when I was 41. I'm now 48. Soon to be 49. I still feel young and look young. :)

Gemme 03-02-2012 08:23 AM

Holy Times Flies, Batman!

I was 35 when I posted before and am now 37, almost 38.

Same numbers here!

Ciaran 03-04-2012 01:08 AM

I'm 36 ... soon-ish to be 37.

I act older as I've an old soul although I usually pass, in real life, as a 30 something if I mosturise before going outside

fever 03-04-2012 07:23 PM

Age

I used to be insecure about stating my age. I am 57, Gemini, femme, Canadian. I thought I was too old to be of interest to younger butches. I turned that around and am grateful to be my age. I have lots of life experience, a feisty attitude, a kind and gentle heart. I still haven't found a soul mate, but the journey is certainly a lot of fun. And, Ciaran, you are one of the butches who made this "older and wiser" femme have a marvelous time at the get together in Vegas.

:byebye:

suebee 03-04-2012 07:52 PM

I'm 53 - soon to be 54. It seems that people think I'm quite a bit younger - I'm not sure why. I generally pass for my wife's age - late thirties/early forties. I FEEL as old as dirt though! lol

Bad_boi 03-07-2012 01:00 AM

I was 18 when I joined the old B-F and I'm still here at 22.

aishah 03-07-2012 01:34 AM

i'm 24 chronologically, and around 5 mentally and 80 physically ;) it evens out. sorta.

stephfromMIT 08-27-2012 01:10 PM

i hear Hot SPrings is great for retirement. Maybe we should all gravitate to the hot springs as we age, then we won't have to travel so far for the reunion.....
just sayin'

I think you're cool. Sometimes people are a bit overly wary of new people. I like that you bring your own experiences from the real world and are not just another person who has been online for years and years and knows all the right lingo and protocol. You also don't get angry or defensive when people seem to misunderstand you, which shows a lot of class. We need new blood- in terms of new people and younger people. I am glad you are here. Enjoy your youth!
