I've been an Embalmer for nearly 20 years - I've seen many Embalming rooms (and Mortuaries) rennovated and the marble slabs that have survived have been sent to specialist Museums. Some Embaling rooms in the smaller Funeral Directors still have the marble slabs and 'old style' Embalming rooms, but, they are now being rennovated with the stainless steel tables (as they are now called).

Ahhhh now it makes sense.

I can definitely say that not all the slabs in the country have been saved. There are a few that will either be lost in demolitions or vandalised.

I enjoy looking at the wide variety of photos. Thank you all for posting.

Some of my favorite photos of me tend to show a quiet stillness that I appreciate. Probably because it's a contrast to how busy life tends to be (and how hard it is to actually be still).

A really huge part of my life revolves around my local beach. I used sand walking for a year to regain my health.
It worked and now I am hooked.
Everyday, no matter the weather, I am out there walking in the fresh air, very grateful for a moderate climate.
This was yesterday afternoon, chilly, but very nice otherwise.

Well, Me n Merriam are still negotiating mah word Fuckery.

I'm always gonna be the buck-tooth kid (youths can be so very cruel), I got
called ugly, got hit, got spit on and all that good stuff ~ so it took me
years to be able to have the courage to not 'duck' when a camera
was around. You won't often find a shot of me with a full teethy
grin because of this. So taking selfies n such ~ well sometimes
a 'distortion' of myself is all I see in the photos.
Not sure if that makes sense.

You have no idea how similar your story is to my own Day.It wasn't until I met my photographer ex when I was 33yrs old, who made me look gorgeous in her photographs, that I came to think that I might not be the ugly little bod I believed I was. S'true. After an interlude of fuckery I met exMrs.I who is also a photographer and alos very kindly made a somewhat older me look fab in her photographs. It was then I started the 365 project from which most of the pictures I'm posting come. It was a whole lot of fun being creative and learning how to take pictures too. Having a gf that ended up teaching photography sure helped with the technical side of things.

I've lost my confidence somewhat of late. After hitting man-o-pause, gaining weight and just generally getting older I'm feeling a little in need of catharsis, which is where the renewed inspiration for 'selfies' is coming from.

I've over shared haven't I ...ooops!
