Isabel does NOT like wearing snow boots, no matter how cute they make her look.

My Lizzie pees the same way LOL. I wonder if it's a Chihuahua trait??

My cousin went to visit my ex (I know, traitor...), and he said they took Isabel to the bar with them. The bartender gave her a little piece of cheese, and after that she went back to the bar and barked to order more cheese. LOL She got her cheese, over and over again.

My boy Newton pees like a girl. Maybe I am just great at picking out transgender chihuahuas LOL My Sancho was all man, though, all about bravado and marking his territory... And very protective, I had a roommate who started dating a guy I worked with. The first time he ever put his arm around her, Sancho growled and snarled at him. He looked pretty intimidated!

Bear marks her territory as well everywhere.....

People always call her a boy im like huh??? bear is unisex name why do folks equate bear to male???

Miss Tia, there are tons of chi's in need of rescue, check out Petfinder...you will be amazed at the amount of chi's in shelters all across the U.S. (especially in CA, for some reason).

OMG gaea, Lizzie doesn't like men either. This is so weird.

The rescue I work with here in Seattle works mainly with dogs from Taiwan, but they also rescue dogs from shelters - especially if they are on the short list to be euthanized (they rescue a lot of Pits too) - the last Chi they had took months and months to adopt out - and she was the cutest little thing.

I wonder if they have a stigma of being yippy and shakey and that turns people off ....

I tell you, if I hadnt had 4 other dogs at home - or if I was a millionaire and could afford a 5th dog, I would have adopted her bc she was precious.

They have a boy Chi/Terrier up for adoption right now if you all know any Chi lovers in the Seattle area - they rescued him from a shelter just a few days before he was to be put down and he is just precious as hell with his little curly-q tail and smiley face. lol

Didnt mean to turn this into an ad for a dog - I just think they're cute and the next time I am able to adopt, I may just get one. I wasnt sure I would be suited to own a small dog, but one of the dogs I fostered and now own is less than 20lbs and the cutest little old man you ever did see. :)

This is my little old man, Max after he destroyed his dog bed while I was gone - he came right back into the room as I was cleaning it up, plopped down onto the destroyed bed, with bits of it still stuck in his snaggle teeth, and just looked at me. That green stuff behind him is bed stuffing. You just cant be mad at a face like that!

Not a Chi, so I hope this is ok! :)

Still trying to figure out how to post a video of Newton walking in his snow boots here. It's HILARIOUS! But I posted it on FB, not YouTube, so I'm not sure how to embed it or if I'll have to move it to YT.

thedivahrrrself 04-24-2012 12:47 PM

And, of course, ALL dog stories and pics are welcome here! I just happen to have a special affinity for chihuahuas and noticed many other people on the site do as well!

Could it be that the dog was in fashion at some point with women wanting to carry them around in their purses out there? Just guessing.

I would take a good guess that you are accurate. It is unfortunate that people treated their dogs as if they were "toys"

My pup has never been a purse pup..nor would i ever have subjected her to such cruelty.

Man, that dog is PERFECT. I am a terrier guy and I have always liked Chis, too. Sucks my dog is such a bully that I can't have any other dogs, because this guy is awesome!

SugarFemme 04-24-2012 04:25 PM

If they could get him to me in Vegas, I would seriously take him in a heartbeat. I've been busting my brains trying to think of a way. I went and looked at the Chihuahuas on Petfinder last night and sat and cried looking at them. At which time my daughter took my laptop and would not let me look any longer LOL?

That tiny is precious as hell, isnt he? I can ask if they have transport to LV, but being foster based and a non-profit, their funds are in short supply. :(

I would love to have him him, but I cant have a 5th dog at this point - hell, the only reason I could adopt Max up there is because after a year and a half of being in foster care with me, he wasnt getting adopted (he is disabled and kind of like a cat in the "leave me alone" department lol) so the rescue offered to "sponsor" him and asked if they took care of his food and medical stuff, would I keep him. Of course, I said yes. :)

Ok - I asked the powers that be over at Salty Dog Rescue (the one adopting out Tiny) and they said they cant afford to do transfers that far - they prefer to stay local (I am thinking so that so if someone changes their mind, which happens more often than you would think, they can take the dog back) - so only to places they can drive to in a day.

Sorry, OneOfAKind :(

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...19290464_n.jpgIf anyone is looking for a Chi and lives in the NY/NJ/PA area, a two year old female was dropped off at the NYACC yesterday because her owners "just don't want her anymore." If anyone does want her but can't drive to Manhattan to get her, please PM me, I'll pick her up and bring her to you. She looks like such a little sweetheart. NYACC is a high-kill shelter, so she has about a week....please let me know if anyone wants her.

SugarFemme 04-24-2012 06:57 PM

Hey Parker, thank you so much for checking:) I wish I could get him some way.

Wish I was close - I would take her in a heartbeat! Newton needs a new chica to play with. Maggie is too old and impatient. I'm hoping (hope of hopes!) to find an Inca Orchid to rescue somewhere. They are supposed to be what chihuahuas descended from, and they're just beautiful and personable dogs.

always2late 04-25-2012 08:58 PM

Quick update....the little girl I posted has been rescued! YAY!! Hopefully she will now get all the cuddlin' and love she deserves!

The JD 04-25-2012 10:11 PM

Chi-Chis got religion!

I read some time ago that the chihuahua was sacrificed at funerals by Aztec priests so the dogs could help guide the deceased human to the after-life. One story/source even said the purpose of the chihuahua's death was to act as a martyr and absorb the sins of the deceased, so that the Aztec would have a pure soul and could get into heaven. Sound familiar? Maybe I would have felt a greater connection to Sunday School as a kid if Jesus had been a chihuahua.

DOGGLES!!!!! Where in the world did you find chihuahua sized ones???

starryeyes 04-26-2012 01:46 PM

Does anyone else's chihuahua try to bite your hand (or any guilty appendage) off if you touch her while under a blanket?? Or was I just lucky with the "pick of the litter"? Lol.

If you touch them from the top of the blanket? Yes, Isabel does that all the time. I call the game Blanket Monster or Chupacabra LOL It also works if she is on top and my hand is under the blanket.

I also used to have a girl named Sweet Pea who would snarl and bite at you if you tried to move her while she was sleeping. The boys do not seem to have the same nesting habits with the blanket, in my experience.

Yeah, Bob gets pretty grumpy if you "poke the lump". Sounds like he is going to tear your speen out through your nose actually.
