Sheraton Grand 1400 6th Ave, Seattle Phone: (206) 621-9000

Saturday November 23rd, 2019 - Wednesday January 1st, 2020

A local tradition that began in 1992, the Sheraton Grand Seattle is proud to continue its support of JDRF’s Greater Northwest Chapter by hosting the 27th annual Gingerbread Village celebration. Each year, a talented team of local architects, chefs from the Sheraton Grand Seattle, and children collaborate to build elaborate gingerbread creations to raise funds in support of JDRF’s vision of a world without type 1 diabetes.

To create the event, which has raised over $1 million and is free for the public to attend, the Sheraton Grand Seattle annually donates over 8,000 volunteer hours and thousands of pounds of dough, icing and candy. The Gingerbread Village event has become a recognizable holiday tradition in Seattle and at the heart of this celebration is embracing cheer and fostering community while giving back.

These are displayed in the lobby of the Sheraton and it's just one of the fun things to experience in downtown Seattle during the holiday season. Another suggestion is to walk over to 4th & Pine and ride the carousal. The money from that also goes to a worthwhile cause which varies from year to year.

Chicago Polar Plunge....

Sunday March 1st 10 a.m. 1600 N Lake Shore Dr North Avenue Beach

Thousands of brave souls take a dip in the icy waters of Lake Michigan each winter, a feat that would seem crazy if the participants did it just for kicks. Thankfully, there's a very good reason for annual the Polar Plunge: raising money for Special Olympics Chicago. Everyone who jumps into the frigid lake is asked to raise $200 for the charity (though it's free to come out and watch the festivities on North Avenue Beach). In the past, celebrities like Lady Gaga and Vince Vaughn have shown up to join in on the chilly fun—who know which famous person you might spot this year?
